In this paper, we consider the problem of predicting unknown targets from data. We propose Online Residual Learning (ORL), a method that combines online adaptation with offline-trained predictions. At a lower level, we employ multiple offline predictions generated before or at the beginning of the prediction horizon. We augment every offline prediction by learning their respective residual error concerning the true target state online, using the recursive least squares algorithm. At a higher level, we treat the augmented lower-level predictors as experts, adopting the Prediction with Expert Advice framework. We utilize an adaptive softmax weighting scheme to form an aggregate prediction and provide guarantees for ORL in terms of regret. We employ ORL to boost performance in the setting of online pedestrian trajectory prediction. Based on data from the Stanford Drone Dataset, we show that ORL can demonstrate best-of-both-worlds performance.

Background: A dual-function phantom designed to quantify the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in different fat contents (FCs) and glass bead densities (GBDs) to simulate the human tissues has not been documented yet. We propose a dual-function phantom to quantify the FC and to measure the ADC at different FCs and different GBDs. Methods: A fat-containing diffusion phantom comprised by 30 glass-bead-containing fat-water emulsions consisting of six different FCs (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%) multiplied by five different GBDs (0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 g/50 mL). The FC and ADC were measured by the “iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least squares estimation-IQ,” IDEAL-IQ, and single-shot echo-planar diffusion-weighted imaging, SS-EP-DWI, sequences, respectively. Linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship among the fat fraction (FF) measured by IDEAL-IQ, GBD, and ADC. Results: The ADC was significantly, negatively, and linearly associated with the FF (the linear slope ranged from -0.005 to -0.017, R² = 0.925 to 0.986, all p < 0.001). The slope of the linear relationship between the ADC and the FF, however, varied among different GBDs (the higher the GBD, the lower the slope). ADCs among emulsions across different GBDs and FFs were overlapped. Emulsions with low GBDs plus high FFs shared a same lower ADC range with those with median or high GBDs plus median or lower FFs. Conclusions: A novel dual-function phantom simulating the human tissues allowed to quantify the influence of FC and GBD on ADC. Relevance statement: The study developed an innovative dual-function MRI phantom to explore the impact of FC on ADC variation that can affect clinical results. The results revealed the superimposed effect on FF and GBD density on ADC measurements. Today on-line monitoring of the technical state and assessment of the service life of electromechanical systems at rolling mills is an urgent problem. To resolve it, it is necessary to substantiate the method for calculation of the remaining life under dynamic loads and to develop technical means for the method implementation. The authors have studied the oscillograms of speeds and torques of the motors of the top and bottom rolls main drives (TMD and BMD) for the plate mill 5000. A considerable difference between static (and consequently, dynamic) torques of these motors has been confirmed. When the loaded electrical drive reaches the limit torque values, it causes the loss of the motor control and increased amplitudes of elastic torque at the spindle when the rolls pick up metal. This confirms that it is important to study the dependence between elastic torque amplitude and thickness reduction and to develop the method to calculate mechanical equipment life at intermittent dynamic loads. An information system for on-line monitoring of elastic torques at spindles has been developed. Elastic torque recovery is conducted by the observer that additionally calculates the extent of equipment wear. The authors have substantiated the calculation of fatigue loading based on the Palmgren-Miner linear damage rule. The article also considers analytical expressions used to obtain dependences between wear and torque degree during metal pickup. The authors have calculated the spindle wear for different time periods at rolling sheets for actual plant stock. As a result, the difference in fatigue life of TMD and BMD spindles was confirmed. The authors give recommendations on the commercial adoption of the solutions and applying BigData technologies for dataset processing.

The multiplier is a pervasive critical component today. However, most of them are difficult to be integrated into an integrated circuit. In this study, we proposed a novel analog multiplier for AC power application, using CMOS process to realize the analog voltage multiplication function of double-ended input and single-ended output. Under the working voltage of 3.3 V, the multiplier can operate with a wide input voltage range of 0–1.6 V (about 48.8% of the working voltage) and a wide output voltage range of 0–2.56 V (about 77.5% of the working voltage). The multiplier is implemented through the current difference between two NMOSs operating in the linear region and the saturation region, respectively. Compared with the existing technique, the proposed analog multiplier has a wider input and output range, and better linearity. It is suitable for AC power signal tracking and modulation. Finally, the United Microelectronics Corporation 0.18 μm 1P4M CMOS standard process was used for physical implementation. Moreover, there is not any BJT or special device used. It was measured that the analog multiplier circuit consumes about 0.56 mW at a working voltage of 3.3 V. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Studies on Day-Ahead Electricity Price Forecasting: SARIMAX, LSTM and CNN-LSTM with the Electrical Consumption as an Exogenous Input

In this paper, Python and TensorFlow were used to program SARIMAX, LSTM, and CNN-LSTM models for prediction and forecasting analyses. The performance of the models was assessed and compared using the MAE, RMSE, MAPE, and percentage accuracy. The research was based on historical data from the German electrical market. The effectiveness of the models in predicting dayahead electricity prices is assessed, the total-hourly electricity consumption is an exogenous variable used as a model input, and its impact on model performance is assessed. The electrical consumption is added as an exogenous input to this time-series analysis, which uses real electricity pricing. The CNN-LSTM model use CNN to extract valuable characteristics in order to automatically pick the best model, while the LSTM recognizes data dependency in time series. A variety of tests were carried out to verify our findings, examine the accuracy of the programmed models, and investigate the effect of introducing exogenous data. To compare forecasting methodologies, we use the Mean Absolute Error, Root-Mean Squared Error, Mean Absolute Percentage Error, and percentage accuracy. In terms of accuracy, simplicity, and time usage, the LSTM and CNN-LSTM data-driven models surpass the SARIMAX model. In terms of precision, the CNN-LSTM technique was the best. © 2022, The Authors. Induction heating is widely used in industrial furnaces because of its rapid response time and high energy efficiency. To design and optimize these furnaces, computer-aided simulations are essential. This study aims to develop an accurate temperature field model for a square cross-section steel billet in an induction furnace by leveraging various parameters in COMSOL Multiphysics software. The simulation analysis incorporated temperature dynamics, considering skin depth, temperaturedependent, and constant parameters of the steel billet. The datadriven model was converted into a state-space representation utilizing MATLAB's System Identification Toolbox. This conversion facilitated the design of a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) with integral gain and pole placement. Further, these controllers' performance was analyzed, and controllers were successfully implemented to regulate the temperature field of the billet from initial temperature to reference temperature, utilizing the distributed parameter system control circuit.

The ability to explore an unknown environment and create a representation is a must-have for a fully autonomous robot. Autonomous exploration is a multifaceted problem and requires solutions to a combination of sub-problems such as Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), path planning and following, detecting potential navigation target points and evaluating them to select a target. This study implements a frontier point based approach to identify potential navigation targets. Permanent and temporary RRT-based tree structures are used to search the existing map and detect frontier points. Permanent tree is rooted from the initial position of the robot and is never reset. Temporary trees are reset when they hit a frontier point or reach a certain number of branches. Two types of temporary trees are used, starting from the robot's current location and starting from the frontier points that lose their frontier point characteristics as the region they lie is mapped. A revenue function considering path cost, heading cost, and information gain is used to evaluate the frontier points and select a target among them.

Consensus of Double Integrator Multiagent Systems under Nonuniform Sampling and Changing Topology

This article considers consensus problem of multiagent systems with double integrator dynamics under nonuniform sampling. It is considered the maximum sampling time can be selected arbitrarily. Moreover, the communication graph can change to any possible topology as long as its associated graph Laplacian has eigenvalues in a given region, which can be selected arbitrarily. Existence of a controller that ensures consensus in this setting is shown when the changing topology graphs are balanced and has a spanning tree. Also, explicit bounds for controller parameters are given. A novel sufficient condition is given to solve the consensus problem based on making the closed loop system matrix a contraction using a particular coordinate system for general linear dynamics. It is shown that the given condition immediately generalizes to changing topology in the case of balanced topology graphs. This condition is applied to double integrator dynamics to obtain explicit bounds on the controller. © 2022, CC BY.

We study the market clearing model for electric energy, inertia, and reserve in the day-ahead market, with a particular focus on the virtual inertia provided by wind units. In this paper, we consider synchronous inertia and virtual inertia as sources of system inertia. We incorporate system inertia constraints into the unit commitment (UC) and the economic dispatch (ED) models, and assign economic value to virtual inertia, so as to incentivize wind power to provide virtual inertia. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed model enhances the participation of wind power units, increases the wind utilization rate and reduces the total costs.

In this paper, we consider a continuous system cooperative dynamic game problem with two players. Through the introduction of dynamic programming concept, a Hamilton-jacobi-Belman equation for two players is designed. By introducing detection noises and using the basis function approximation method, a data-driven adaptive dynamic programming method is proposed and an iterative equation is obtained. Then, by introducing two detection noises and using the basis function approximation method, an iterative equation is obtained. It is note-worthy that we can obtain the Nash equilibrium solution of the cooperative game. Finally, a numerical simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive dynamic programming approach. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.
