Many megacities, such as London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, and Shanghai, have been born due to urban- ization. While citizens enjoy the convenience of city life, such cities suffer from drawbacks of transportation: the average commute time has been increasing over the past years. With the maturity of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft technology, decision-makers have started to look upward to the low-altitude airspace. This blue space has the potential to reshape the transportation system and shorten the average travel time in daily life. To explore this emerging area, we held a Distributed/Decentralized Hybrid Workshop on Sustain- ability for Transportation and Logistics (DHW-STL), and this letter summarizes the outcomes of our discussion. Here, we first pinpoint the pain issues of conventional transportation. Then, we present the emerging low-altitude airspace transportation option, followed by a discussion on how such a new transportation option can integrate with the conventional ground-based transportation system. Some thoughts about the pathway to further development of the integrated transportation system are shared finally.

We discuss two specific issues that affected the workflows in our career as automatic control teachers and that are related to how teachers may establish teaching-oriented collaborations with colleagues from the same or different institutions. The first issue we identify is the systematic difficulty that one encounters when wanting to exchange instructional material with colleagues, while the second is the complexity of establishing students exchange programs across different institutions and nations. We discuss the nature and structure of the two problems, discuss why and how they are connected, and draw practical examples of how these problems may affect workflows. We then present a strategy that aims at solving these issues based on the introduction of an opportune indexing of instructional material in terms of contents and complexity of such contents, and how this information may be graphically displayed so to ease human and machine interpretability. We further discuss how this approach was used on a smaller scale to ease collaborations among close colleagues, and how it may be extended and adopted on a larger scale.

The safety of multiple unmanned aerial vehicle (multi-UAV) systems threatened by enemy missiles is crucial for their effective formation control. In this paper, a distributed safety control strategy is developed that enables multi-UAV systems to execute formation tasks while avoiding enemy missiles. The proposed method considers enemy missiles as dynamic constraints on the multi-UAV system and is adaptable to changes in the number of UAVs. By ensuring each UAV remains within a defined safe set, the system can avoid incoming missiles while maximizing operational freedom for each UAV. The control strategy utilizes the backstepping control technique, making the computational process relatively inexpensive. Simulation results validate the effectiveness and adaptability of the proposed method in continuously changing threat environments. Our approach offers a promising solution for achieving safe and efficient multi-UAV cooperative operations in hostile environments. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

With the rapid development of the manufacturing industry, traditional control systems can no longer meet the requirements of flexibility, efficiency, and intelligence for smart manufacturing. In order to fully utilize technologies such as microservices and enhance the flexibility of smart manufacturing, we propose a microservice-based architecture integrating sensing, communication, computation, and control, dedicated to achieving integrated management and configuration of the production process. In this architecture, each production stage is designed as an independent microservice, capable of being flexibly deployed in various edge controllers. Therefore, a universal edge controller can simultaneously act as a PLC, router, data acquisition device, and edge server, greatly simplifying the complexity of equipment deployment. The microservice-based integrated architecture not only improves the efficiency of data routing but also helps simplify the integration of new sensors and actuators, making adjustments of production lines more convenient, thereby enhancing the scalability and flexibility of the system. We implemented the proposed architecture based on a validation scenario, and the experimental results demonstrate the enormous development potential of this architecture.

Accurate fault diagnosis plays a key role in the safe and efficient operation of electrical motors. Aiming at multiclass motor fault diagnosis under complex working conditions, a signal fusion-based fault diagnosis framework is proposed. Measurement parameters from different sensors are first transformed by wavelet denoising and fast Fourier transform (FFT). Then, multiple parameters spectrum and working condition information are integrated and converted into high-dimension matrices. Finally, a channel-attention-based convolution neural network (CA-CNN) is proposed to extract fault patterns from a reconstructed matrix and output diagnosis results. Experiment results on both simulated and experimental datasets verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Orthogonal chirp division multiplexing(OCDM) has emerged as a promising approach for underwater acoustic(UWA)*** the constraints of limited bandwidth resources in the underwater environment,enhancing the data transmission rate necessitates leveraging spatial resources ***,we should integrate multiple-input multipleoutput(MIMO) technology with OCDM UWA communication ***,existing MIMO OCDM systems ignore the interference caused by carrier frequency offset(CFO),which is a primary challenge faced by co-located MIMO systems in underwater *** this paper,we propose a CFO estimator based on the null symbols of the Fresnel domain tailored for MIMO OCDM *** estimator regards the energy leakage on null symbols as the objective function to identify the optimal CFO ***,we design pilot allocation strategies for different transmitters to mitigate co-channel interference in MIMO *** enables the estimation of the channel transfer matrix and simultaneous transmission of information,thereby enhancing adaptability to dynamic UWA ***,we derive a low-complexity equalizer *** simulations,the proposed algorithm demonstrates superior communication performance compared to existing algorithms with and without CFO interference.

In the operating rooms and the intensive care unit, it is crucial to manage the patient’s hemodynamic status, which includes factors like cardiac output and mean arterial pressure. Anesthesiologists confront a difficult task while monitoring high-risk patients. Cardiac output optimization has been found to enhance the result of high-risk patients in terms of hospital stay, mortality rate, post-operative problems, etc. The application of standard control approaches is restricted because the mean arterial pressure response of a patient using vasoactive medicines is modeled by a first-order dynamical system with time-varying parameters and a time-varying delay in the control input. In order to circumvent implementation challenges, this work develops an approximation technique that describes the system using a higher-order model. Predictive control is therefore used to comprehend the practical application of higher-order hemodynamic systems. The effectiveness of this strategy is demonstrated by the simulations and outcomes that are given.

An electroencephalogram that was captured with electrodes placed can easily get contaminated with a variety of artifacts. Here is a comparative of various electroencephalogram (EEG) de-noising techniques. Three alternative techniques are used to eliminate five different kinds of noise, and also the outcomes are evaluated. These three methods are just the Least Mean Square (LMS) technique, the Connected Neural Network, and also the Recursive Least-square (RLS) adaptable algorithm (FCNN). Period charts of the actual EEG signal, the noise EEG signal, and thus the predicted EEG signal are used to display the results. RRMSE and signal-to-noise ratio were utilized to compare the effectiveness of the 3 de-noising strategies in this study. Investigating the model parameters in this case, we discover the FCNN forecasts a better outcome compared to the other two methods. © 2023 IEEE.

DVG+A* and RRT Path-Planners: A Comparison in a Highly Dynamic Environment

This work provides a deeper comparison between two path planning algorithms, the Dynamic Visibility Graph A Star (DVG+A*) and Rapidly–exploring Random Trees (RRT), when applied in a high dimension and dynamic environment, which is the RoboCup Small Size League. The algorithms were compared under two different perspectives. In the first analysis, the algorithms were evaluated according to its computational time, path length and path safety in a static environment. Afterwards, they were evaluated regarding the accumulated computational time, number of recalculated paths, total navigation time and number of collisions in a dynamic environment. The static environment results have shown that the DVG+A* has a better overall performance than RRT, except for the path safety, however, some ideas on how to improve this were discussed. In the dynamic environment the algorithms performed similarly and with a high number of collisions during the experiments. Thus, showing the importance of using an obstacle avoidance algorithm combined with the path planner. In conclusion, the results obtained showed that both algorithms aren’t suitable for highly dynamic and cluttered environments, however, due how sparse the obstacles are in the SSL, they can still be used with some care. Sneak circuit analysis is a crucial reliability design process. In the design of spacecraft electronic systems, it is challenging to identify sneak circuits related to integrated chip interface circuits, and there are few targeted researches. In extreme working conditions, the coupling sneak circuits caused by the failure of integrated chips are difficult to identify, affecting the design optimization. The paper proposes a typical interface information specification model for integrated chips to simulate the electrical information characteristics of interfaces. And the typical failure models of intrinsic components inside the chip are determined through multi-physics field analysis. Then, based on the digital model, a sneak circuit diagnosis process based on excitation and fault injection are proposed, and a sneak circuit screening method based on Python virtual prototyping is implemented in the case study. Finally, the design constraint clues for the chip’s external circuit are obtained, which provides a reference for related fault diagnosis and reliability optimization works.
