Delay-based droop control in DC-DC converters: a novel technique to overcome the DC microgrid stability problems with constant power loads

With the development of distributed renewable energy sources (DREs), DC microgrids are gaining popularity because of their high efficiency, reliability, and ease of connecting DREs. The negative incremental impedance caused by connecting multiple constant power loads (CPLs) at the DC microgrid generates voltage oscillations. To eliminate the effect of CPLs, a technique is proposed to suppress the oscillations created by the disturbance in the DC bus. In this paper, a delay-based control technique has been developed at the source side controller. The proposed approach is integrated with the existing maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm with a droop controller to suppress the oscillations at the DC bus. This approach enhances the power quality of the multiple CPLs connected in the DC microgrid. Copyright © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This research focuses on exploring the nanosecond laser-driven coil systems capable of generating kT magnetic fields and the diverse applications of this system. Through investigating the effects of laser parameters and coil structures, the aim of this study is to unveil the physics of these generated intense magnetic fields. The outcomes gained from this research give an important and fundamental understanding on high magnetic field production, informing the development in laser-driven systems. The implications of this study extend to plasma physics, astrophysics simulations and fusion research. Furthermore, the study explains the advantages and applications of these intense magnetic fields and includes measurements of laser pulse powers according to coil materials. © 2024 Published by peer-reviewed open access scientific journal, JES at DergiPark (https://***/jes)

Increased demand for electrical power, the power grid has risen in scope and complexity, with massive interconnectivity. In addition, the importance of long-distance and large-power transmission lines expands. The previous DC-AC conversion technique had high harmonic distortion, and the output load voltage contained both sage and swell output. To solve the issue, proposed Multiple Carrier Phase Disposition Modulation (MCPDM) utilizes N, where N is the number of DC link voltages or units. A carrier wave with a variable switching frequency tied to a reference wave is used in the sine wave and multilayer output. The pulse control approach removes hazardous low-order harmonics from the inactive power input, output voltage, and current. An in-phase power supply, a pulsed magnetic field, and an H-bridge inverter power the stator winding of the single-phase induction motor. Because the ultimate output voltage quantity of all the H assembly-based reference value, the voltage levels are odd. © 2025 IEEE.

Torque ripple minimization in an 8/6 switched reluctance motor drive: optimization using the AZOA method

In this manuscript, an American Zebra Optimization Algorithm (AZOA) is proposed for minimising torque-ripple in an 8/6 switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. The major objective of the proposed technique is to improve efficiency, steady state performance, and minimise the torque ripple. The objective is achieved by applying the AZOA to determine the optimal converter topology. The switched reluctance motor is fed by three converters with three legs. It consists of freewheeling diodes, IGBTs, capacitors, and resistors. By then, the proposed technique is executed in the MATLAB software and its performance is evaluated with various existing approaches. The simulation results of the SRM drive with different converter typologies are presented to analyse its performance with torque and speed characteristics. The proposed method demonstrates superior performance across all approaches, including the heap-based optimiser (HBO), salp swarm algorithm (SSA), and cuckoo search algorithm (CSA), yielding better results. From the result, it is concluded that the proposed technique displays a high efficiency of 95% and a low cost of 1.5$ compared with other existing methods. ©, Engineers Australia.

The capacity to estimate wind direction and speed is essential for both the generation of renewable energy and the forecasting of weather. Near the ground, the performance of the mechanistic models that are the foundation of conventional forecasting is quite low. We will explore a different data-driven strategy that is based on supervised learning. We train supervised learning algorithms utilising the previous history of wind data. We use data from individual locations and horizons to conduct a systematic comparison of a number of algorithms, during which we change the input/output variables, the amount of memory, and whether or not the model is linear or nonlinear. According to our findings, the ideal design as well as the performance of the system varies depending on the region. Our technique achieves an improvement in performance of 0.3 m/s on average when it is applied to datasets that are accessible to the public. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Enhanced Far-Field Localization Scheme Using Multi-RIS and Efficient Beam Sweeping

Future 6G networks are anticipated to use reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) because of their capability to expand coverage, provide a customizable wireless environment, increase localization accuracy, etc. In this paper, RIS-aided localization is considered with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-input single-output (SISO) downlink system in millimeter-wave (mmWave). An efficient beam sweeping (EBS) scheme is proposed accomplished by an RIS to scan the area of interest and estimate the direction of the user equipment (UE), i.e., the signal’s angle of departure (AoD). The AoD with the measured signal time of arrival (ToA), from the RIS to the UE, is used to estimate the UE position. The ToA measurements can be obtained by exploiting the OFDM signal, while the beam sweeping can be obtained by carefully designing the RIS phase profile. The first step of the proposed EBS scheme is to scan the whole area of interest with equally spaced beam angles for coarse estimation of AoD. Then, based on this estimation, the RIS is reconfigured to sweep a slight angle’s range by narrow beams to refine the AoD estimation. Besides, a multi-RIS scenario is proposed, and leveraging the EBS and the consensus fusion method is used to obtain accurate position estimation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed EBS in single and multi-RIS scenarios enhances positioning accuracy compared to linear beam sweeping (LBS) methods. Also, the impact of increasing the number of RIS elements and number of sweeping beams, as well as the number of RISs, is investigated thoroughly via numerical simulations. Furthermore, the achievable localization accuracy is assessed using the positioning error bound (PEB). © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. All rights reserved.

The selection of insulating fluids is critical for the reliable and efficient operation of power and distribution transformers. This paper provides a comprehensive review of various optimization techniques employed to select the most suitable insulating fluids for these applications. The focus is on evaluating the performance, environmental impact, and economic feasibility of different fluids, including mineral oils, synthetic esters, and natural esters. We analyze optimization methods such as genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, and multi-criteria decision-making approaches, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Additionally, this review addresses recent advancements and future directions in the field, aiming to guide researchers and engineers in making informed decisions for transformer insulation. By synthesizing existing studies, this paper contributes to the development of more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective transformer systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Meta-Surfaces Based High Gain Wide-Band Stacked Antenna with Low Cross-Polarization and Side Lobe Level for 5G Applications

This paper proposes a high gain wide band stacked antenna using multiple meta-surfaces that offers stable radiation patterns with low cross-polarization level (CPL) and side-lobe level (SLL) for 5G applications. The suspended microstrip antenna (SMSA) offers high gain and wide bandwidth, but the radiations from probe feed cause high CPL. SMSA design with meta-surfaces increases the inductive impedance of SMSA; therefore, the substrate height is decreased to increase the capacitance to compensate this inductive impedance. It decreases the cross-polar radiation due to decrease in probe feed length. Meta-surfaces electromagnetically couple with SMSA and enhance the bandwidth of antenna. SMSA with meta-surfaces is placed in a half-wavelength Fabry Perot Cavity (FPC) to enhance the gain of antenna. The proposed antenna offers S11 22 dB over 3.3–3.9 GHz. The structure is fabricated and tested. The measured results are close to the simulation ones. The proposed structure based on its radiation characteristics is a suitable candidate for 5G applications. © 2025, Electromagnetics Academy. All rights reserved.

Compression techniques have a vital role to minimize the cost of information storage and/or transmission. In particular, techniques of image compression make the use of visual perception and statistical properties of image information to provide superior performance in comparison with the other conventional compression techniques. However, high-resolution images may face many compression challenges, especially when hiding them as embedding stage information. In this paper, the performance of four different compression techniques was evaluated and compared. These four different compression techniques are Discrete Cosine Transform 'DCT', Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), Block Truncation Coding (BTC), and Gaussian pyramid (GP) bench-mark techniques. Comparison results between objects composed of high- and medium-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) images are presented, using signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), correlation (CORR), mean square error (MSE), and structural similarity index (SSIM) as metrics to perform the test, it was found that BTC has the best performance in image recovery compared to other comparative techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

Home Energy Management (HEM) is one of the significant applications in the innovation of smart grids, and this concept proficiently actualizes the end user. Energy management is a significant problem in electrical systems regarding energy efficiency and upcoming grid configurations. HEM plays a vital position in meeting the energy requirements of residential appliances. In this research, a cascaded boost converter with maximum voltage gain is developed as a component of innovative home solutions to minimize energy losses and enhance energy efficiency by up to 95%. Photovoltaic (PV) panels may get exposed to different degrees of solar irradiance and temperature under various climatic conditions. Thus, tracking the solar panel's most extreme power point is crucial to enhance the system's performance. Therefore, a modified Perturb and Observe with drift loop Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm is utilized in this research to extract the most extremely accessible PV power. HEM configuration comprises a solar panel, cascaded boost converter, modified P&O Algorithm, battery, bidirectional converter, and the inverter connected with the utility grid. This study simulated the proposed model in MATLAB/Simulink package, and the results were compared and discussed. © 2024 IEEE.
