With the advent of 5G technology, the entire world will soon be permanently connected, which will connect everything from the biggest megacities to the smallest internet of things. Such a connected hierarchy must integrate the internet of things, smart homes, and smart cities into a single, comprehensive infrastructure. In this research, a fourlayer design is proposed that employs technologies including 5G, the internet of things and deep learning that connect and interface various elements. The research that existing deep learning methods for IoT in smart homes. Deep learning has been used in numerous domains and provides outcomes that are superior to those of human specialists. Deep learning can be typically regarded as an essential move toward genuine AI. Numerous data flows are produced in the detecting areas as a result of such IoT’s development using the 5G standards and uploaded to the cloud for further analysis. Better IoT aid may even be achieved by integrating big data extraction and deep learning in efficient ways. High dependability standards, extremely low latencies, additional capacity, increased security, and high-speed user interaction required for the upcoming 5G network. Also consider future trends, unresolved problems, and insights related to employing deep learning techniques to improve IoT security. As a result, the adoption of deep learning algorithms in the 5G networks has the prospect of enhancing people’s way of life through automating and competence. © 2024 The Author(s).

DACS: User Association and TDMA Framing for Low-latency Services on Integrated Access and Backhaul Networks

To realize a ubiquitous communication environment, network providers are currently attaching great importance to wireless backhaul options for the dense deployment of network nodes in urban areas. However, the increase in hop count due to wireless backhaul results in higher multi-hop delays. Network providers need an efficient UE association strategy to minimize multi-hop delays, considering the demand for future low-latency network services. To this end, we consider realistic TDMA frame configuration for downward integrated access and backhaul (IAB) communication and formulate the problem of end-to-end (E2E) delay minimization for UE association. To reduce the complexity of the problem, we apply a piecewise linear function to approximate the queueing delay part and consider an approximate optimization-based scheme (AOPT), which can be computed offline, as a reference scheme. To make the problem solvable online, we simplify the problem and propose a Delay-based user Association Control Scheme, termed DACS, that adaptively enables peak delay minimization by avoiding congested links and selecting routing paths with fewer hops for user association. DACS shows comparable performance to AOPT and outperforms other comparison schemes in terms of the 98th percentile E2E tail delay, helping each user experience acceptable low-latency services. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

To improve LLC resonant converters' performances in wide voltage range applications, many novel modulation strategies that are different from the conventional pulse frequency modulation (PFM) are proposed, such as phase-shift modulation and pulse width modulation. However, the existing LLC modeling methods are difficult to consider different modulation strategies. In addition, in most cases, the traditional time domain models are developed based on the assumption of ideal components. However, in practical applications, circuit parasitics have great influence on the modeling process. In this article, an accurate time domain model by considering common parasitics and suitable for different modulation strategies is developed. The idea of the proposed method is based on the iteration of different operation stages. Once the possible stages are solved and stage switching conditions are determined, the modeling of LLC with various modulation strategies can be achieved. The experimental results show that the error of the proposed model can be reduced from 8.1% to 3% when compared with the traditional time domain model. © 2024 IEEE.

Silicone Rubber (SiR) insulators are known for their outstanding pollution performance in outdoor applications. However, their vulnerability for multiple stresses and many failure modes limits their applications in the power sector. A study is conducted to analyze the cause of their failure in service. Most of the failures occurred due to tracking in the core material, erosion of housing and damages caused by the discharges to the end fittings. It is realized that most of the failures occur due to inefficient manufacturing processes and lack of knowledge which lead to premature failures of the insulators and underutilization. Addressing these issues are need of the hour to increase the applications of polymeric insulators. © 2022 IEEE.

The activation function is one of key elements in modern machine learning algorithms. However, some broadly-used activation functions are exceptionally complex, e.g., GELU in Transformer-based algorithms, which makes their precise yet efficient VLSI implementations extremely hard. In this paper, two series of hardware-friendly activation function designs, DNR and PWL, and their VLSI implementations are proposed. Both are specifically designed to replace GELU, which is widely used in Transformer-related applications. Instead of utilizing traditional lookup-table (LUT)-based approximation methods, this paper introduces new activation functions that are not only hardware-friendly but successfully alleviate the dying neuron issue. Besides, each series includes a number of members, which can be freely selected through programming to best fit a given application. Experimental results indicate that the proposed new activation functions achieve comparable or even better model accuracy as compared to GELU. Moreover, the highly efficient and flexible VLSI implementations support 16 different Q-formats to maximize the output precision under various input scales. Compared with approximation-based implementation strategies, the proposed activation function designs and the corresponding LUT-free hardware implementations do achieve a significant improvement in speed, area, and power. © 2023 IEEE.

In the recent years, the field of wireless communication networks have changed dramatically due to Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar and communication system. MIMO system uses multiple antennas at both ends, transmitter and receiver. The deployment of huge MIMO technology shows enormous progresses in communication systems with extraordinary improvements in energy and spectral efficiencies. Even though, signal processing and channel estimation become challenging tasks in massive MIMO system. To overcome these challenges in this research proposed Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) with Bi-Linear Alternative Least Squares (BALS) method for channel estimation and Maximum Likelihood (ML) for signal detection. Initially, Channel State Information (CSI) is considered as input data. Then, channel estimation is performed through OMP with BALS and signal detection is performed using ML. From the results, the proposed BALS model attained better outcomes compared to existing OMP-based Linear Minimum Mean Square Error (LMMSE) in terms of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) by achieving -10 decibels (dB) correspondingly. © 2025 IEEE.

In this paper, IoT based smart biofloc system has been designed. The paper has contented the concept of modern science and technology that makes the conventional biofloc system more reliable with great comfort and ease. To make an important change to measure weight of the fish in the conventional system to enrich it with smart technology is the main motive of this paper. In this paper, underwater weight measurement of fishes showed through Image Processing technology via MATLAB software where the weight measurement process can provide an overview of the growth of fish in the biofloc tank. Also, in this paper water quality is measured using different sensors such as pH sensor, TDS sensor, Temperature sensor, etc. of the fish tank and showed these results using IoT platform through smartphone display. Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) and renewable source (Solar) as a backup power unit are implemented in this scheme. Moreover, all the different working parts of the paper are coupled together to get a smart scheme for the biofloc fish farming system which will provide a cost-efficient, reliable, and torchbearer for the future development of the system. © 2022 IEEE.

Farming and agriculture account for a large share of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in developing and developed countries. Thus, improvising and optimizing the current farming technologies is a necessity. This will not only help in the flourishing sustainable development of mankind, flora, and fauna but will also help in dealing with global crises such as climate change and drought. With better technological advances comes better harvest;thereby preventing situations like starvation and malnutrition. As water is becoming scarce around the world, there is a need to use the water resource wisely to have water in the future for consumption and agricultural use. An irrigation method used before such as furrow irrigation which does not consider the amount of water required by crops has contributed to water wastage. This has also killed crops and caused a loss of revenue which then also contributed to food insecurity. Loss of revenue is a dent in the economy, which means an imminent need for water rationing must come into effect. The study aims to ensure water is used sparingly and wisely while also ensuring that crops develop properly, thus ensuring food security and increasing revenue for business owners. This project is what is needed in most parts of the world that face water crises with cities such as Port Elizabeth and/or countries such as Ethiopia where damns are drying up. This research uses automotive devices and methods to ensure that the process of watering the crops, testing out the conditions of the water requirement, turning ON/OFF irrigation, and water pumps are done through minimal human interaction. In this research, a microcontroller is programmed with a set of instructions as to when to turn ON/OFF the water and Irrigation pumps with signals received from sensors according to the water requirement. © 2023 IEEE.

In medical laboratories, medical tests are taken to be analyzed for providing better treatment to patients, screening diseases in the population, and for further research on diseases. During the times of the rise of epidemics and pandemics, a mass testing approach for screening the spread of diseases in the population is used. It takes several hours for health workers to manually record the results in the database as presented during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this caused late notification to the infected which resulted in further spread. Based on object recognition with computer vision techniques, the OCR engine, and advanced data analysis techniques, an efficient novel approach to develop a novel deep learning model to classify images while extracting insightful information from them for further manipulation and use has been successfully achieved. The developed model contributes to designing the Bioline RDT scanner machine. The machine is designed to scan different rapid diagnosis test (RDT) types for invalid, negative, or positive results for single or many patients, and extract the corresponding patients' IDs at a time. As the RDT types are not predefined during the development of the model, all the existing and future RDT to come can be monitored by the machine. © 2023 IEEE.
