The popularity of Metaverse as an entertainment, social, and work platform has led to a great need for seamless avatar integration in the virtual world. In Metaverse, avatars must be updated and rendered to reflect users' behaviour. Achieving real-time synchronization between the virtual bilocation and the user is complex, placing high demands on the Metaverse Service Provider (MSP)'s rendering resource allocation scheme. To tackle this issue, we propose a semantic communication framework that leverages contest theory to model the interactions between users and MSPs and determine optimal resource allocation for each user. To reduce the consumption of network resources in wireless transmission, we use the semantic communication technique to reduce the amount of data to be transmitted. Under our simulation settings, the encoded semantic data only contains 51 bytes of skeleton coordinates instead of the image size of 8.243 megabytes. Moreover, we implement Deep Q-Network to optimize reward settings for maximum performance and efficient resource allocation. With the optimal reward setting, users are incentivized to select their respective suitable uploading frequency, reducing down-sampling loss due to rendering resource constraints by 66.076% compared with the traditional average distribution method. The framework provides a novel solution to resource allocation for avatar association in VR environments, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience for all users.

Exploring Attention-Aware Network Resource Allocation for Customized Metaverse Services

Emerging with the support of computing and communications technologies, Metaverse is expected to bring users unprecedented service experiences. However, the increase in the number of Metaverse users places a heavy demand on network resources, especially for Metaverse services that are based on graphical extended reality and require rendering a plethora of virtual objects. To make efficient use of network resources and improve the Quality-of-Experience (QoE), we design an attention-aware network resource allocation scheme to achieve customized Metaverse services. The aim is to allocate more network resources to virtual objects in which users are more interested. We first discuss several key techniques related to Metaverse services, including QoE analysis, eye-tracking, and remote rendering. We then review existing datasets and propose the user-object-attention level (UOAL) dataset that contains the ground truth attention of 30 users to 96 objects in 1, 000 images. A tutorial on how to use UOAL is presented. With the help of UOAL, we propose an attention-aware network resource allocation algorithm that has two steps, i.e., attention prediction and QoE maximization. Specially, we provide an overview of the designs of two types of attention prediction methods, i.e., interest-aware and time-aware prediction. By using the predicted user-object-attention values, network resources such as the rendering capacity of edge devices can be allocated optimally to maximize the QoE. Ion trap systems built upon microfabricated chips have emerged as a promising platform for quantum computing to achieve reproducible and scalable structures. However, photoinduced charging of materials in such chips can generate undesired stray electric fields that disrupt the quantum state of the ion, limiting high-fidelity quantum control essential for practical quantum computing. While crude understanding of the phenomena has been gained heuristically over the past years, explanations for the microscopic mechanism of photogenerated charge carrier dynamics remains largely elusive. Here we present a photoinduced charging model for semiconductors, whose verification is enabled by a systematic interaction between trapped ions and photoinduced stray fields from exposed silicon surfaces in our chip. We use motion-sensitive qubit transitions to directly characterize the stray field and analyze its effect on the quantum dynamics of the trapped ion. In contrast to incoherent errors arising from the thermal motion of the ion, coherent errors are induced by the stray field, whose effect is significantly imprinted during the quantum control of the ion. These errors are investigated in depth, and methods to mitigate them are discussed. Finally, we extend the implications of our study to other photoinduced charging mechanisms prevalent in ion traps and discuss considerations in fabrication to reduce semiconductor charging.

As China's steel production accounts for an increasing share of the world's output, the intelligent transformation of the steel industry is becoming increasingly urgent. To address issues such as low levels of mobile informationization in steel enterprises and the lack of an industry-specific mobile application platform, it is of great significance to establish a shared mobile application platform for the steel industry. In this paper, the requirements of the platform were analyzed, and the platform's functions were designed. The software design of the platform was then carried out, and the entire mobile application sharing platform was developed, effectively improving the production management efficiency of steel enterprises. The results indicate that the platform can effectively meet the needs of steel enterprises and has significant engineering significance.

Generative AI Agents with Large Language Model for Satellite Networks via a Mixture of Experts Transmission

In response to the needs of 6G global communications, satellite communication networks have emerged as a key solution. However, the large-scale development of satellite communication networks is constrained by the complex system models, whose modeling is challenging for massive users. Moreover, transmission interference between satellites and users seriously affects communication performance. To solve these problems, this paper develops generative artificial intelligence (AI) agents for model formulation and then applies a mixture of experts (MoE) approach to design transmission strategies. Specifically, we leverage large language models (LLMs) to build an interactive modeling paradigm and utilize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to extract satellite expert knowledge that supports mathematical modeling. Afterward, by integrating the expertise of multiple specialized components, we propose an MoE-proximal policy optimization (PPO) approach to solve the formulated problem. Each expert can optimize the optimization variables at which it excels through specialized training through its own network and then aggregates them through the gating network to perform joint optimization. The simulation results validate the accuracy and effectiveness of employing a generative agent for problem formulation. Furthermore, the superiority of the proposed MoE-ppo approach over other benchmarks is confirmed in solving the formulated problem. We propose a comprehensive soccer match video analysis pipeline tailored for broadcast footage, which encompasses three pivotal stages: soccer field localization, player tracking, and soccer ball detection. Firstly, we introduce sports camera calibration to seamlessly map soccer field images from match videos onto a standardized two-dimensional soccer field template. This addresses the challenge of consistent analysis across video frames amid continuous camera angle changes. Secondly, given challenges such as occlusions, high-speed movements, and dynamic camera perspectives, obtaining accurate position data for players and the soccer ball is non-trivial. To mitigate this, we curate a large-scale, high-precision soccer ball detection dataset and devise a robust detection model, which achieved the (Formula presented.) of 80.9%. Additionally, we develop a high-speed, efficient, and lightweight tracking model to ensure precise player tracking. Through the integration of these modules, our pipeline focuses on real-time analysis of the current camera lens content during matches, facilitating rapid and accurate computation and analysis while offering intuitive visualizations. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) safety has always been a critical reason for hindering the development of magneticenabled wireless power transfer technology. People focus on the actual received energy at charging devices while paying attention to their health. Thus, we study this significant problem in this paper, and propose a universal safety guaranteed power-delivered-to-load (PDL) maximization scheme (called SafeGuard). Technically, we first utilize the off-the-shelf electromagnetic simulator to perform the EMR distribution analysis to ensure the universality of the method. Then, we innovatively introduce the concept of multiple importance sampling for achieving efficient EMR safety constraint extraction. Finally, we treat the proposed optimization problem as an optimal boundary point search problem from the perspective of space geometry, and devise a brand-new grid-based multi-constraint parallel processing algorithm to efficiently solve it. We implement a system prototype for SafeGuard, and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate it. The results indicate that our SafeGuard can obviously improve the achieved PDL by up to 1.75× compared with the state-of-the-art baseline while guaranteeing EMR safety. Furthermore, SafeGuard can accelerate the solution process by 29.12× compared with the traditional numerical method to satisfy the fast optimization requirement of wireless charging systems.

Semantic communications can reduce the resource consumption by transmitting task-related semantic information extracted from source messages. However, when the source messages are utilized for various tasks, e.g., wireless sensing data for localization and activities detection, semantic communication technique is difficult to be implemented because of the increased processing complexity. In this paper, we propose the inverse semantic communications as a new paradigm. Instead of extracting semantic information from messages, we aim to encode the task-related source messages into a hyper-source message for data transmission or storage. Following this paradigm, we design an inverse semantic-aware wireless sensing framework with three algorithms for data sampling, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided encoding, and self-supervised decoding, respectively. Specifically, on the one hand, we propose a novel RIS hardware design for encoding several signal spectrums into one MetaSpectrum. To select the task-related signal spectrums for achieving efficient encoding, a semantic hash sampling method is introduced. On the other hand, we propose a self-supervised learning method for decoding the MetaSpectrums to obtain the original signal spectrums. Using the sensing data collected from real-world, we show that our framework can reduce the data volume by 95% compared to that before encoding, without affecting the accomplishment of sensing tasks. Moreover, compared with the typically used uniform sampling scheme, the proposed semantic hash sampling scheme can achieve 67% lower mean squared error in recovering the sensing parameters. In addition, experiment results demonstrate that the amplitude response matrix of the RIS enables the encryption of the sensing data. © 2022, CC BY.

The gender gap in STEM is an issue that affects regions and countries worldwide. Furthermore, the percentage of women in these areas depends on a range of different factors. In particular, the gender gap is critical in technology in general and, more specifically, in informatics. This problem affects not only the business sector but also society. Informatics is part of our lives;however, 50% of the world population is not represented in the teams that are developing solutions for solving society's problems. In Spain, the number of women with informatics degrees is around 15%. This work describes a case study developed by the committee of Women in Informatics at the Scientific Society of Spanish Informatics (SCIE) to analyse the perception of informatics scientists on the gender gap in informatics. © 2022 IEEE.
