Blockchain-based Federated Learning for Industrial Metaverses: Incentive Scheme with Optimal AoI

The emerging industrial metaverses realize the mapping and expanding operations of physical industry into virtual space for significantly upgrading intelligent manufacturing. The industrial metaverses obtain data from various production and operation lines by Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and thus conduct effective data analysis and decision-making, thereby enhancing the production efficiency of the physical space, reducing operating costs, and maximizing commercial value. However, there still exist bottlenecks when integrating metaverses into IIoT, such as the privacy leakage of sensitive data with commercial secrets, IIoT sensing data freshness, and incentives for sharing these data. In this paper, we design a user-defined privacy-preserving framework with decentralized federated learning for the industrial metaverses. To further improve privacy protection of industrial metaverse, a cross-chain empowered federated learning framework is further utilized to perform decentralized, secure, and privacy-preserving data training on both physical and virtual spaces through a hierarchical blockchain architecture with a main chain and multiple subchains. Moreover, we introduce the age of information as the data freshness metric and thus design an age-based contract model to motivate data sensing among IIoT nodes. With recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, unmanned vehicle swarms have received great attention from both academia and industry due to their potential to provide services that are difficult and dangerous to perform by humans. However, learning and coordinating movements and actions for a large number of unmanned vehicles in complex and dynamic environments introduce significant challenges to conventional AI methods. Generative AI (GAI), with its capabilities in complex data feature extraction, transformation, and enhancement, offers great potential in solving these challenges of unmanned vehicle swarms. For that, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive survey on applications, challenges, and opportunities of GAI in unmanned vehicle swarms. Specifically, we first present an overview of unmanned vehicles and unmanned vehicle swarms as well as their use cases and existing issues. Then, an in-depth background of various GAI techniques together with their capabilities in enhancing unmanned vehicle swarms are provided. After that, we present a comprehensive review on the applications and challenges of GAI in unmanned vehicle swarms with various insights and discussions. Finally, we highlight open issues of GAI in unmanned vehicle swarms and discuss potential research directions. © 2024, CC BY.

Noisy partial label learning (noisy PLL) is an important branch of weakly supervised learning. Unlike PLL where the ground-truth label must conceal in the candidate label set, noisy PLL relaxes this constraint and allows the ground-truth label may not be in the candidate label set. To address this challenging problem, most of the existing works attempt to detect noisy samples and estimate the ground-truth label for each noisy sample. However, detection errors are unavoidable. These errors can accumulate during training and continuously affect model optimization. To this end, we propose a novel framework for noisy PLL with theoretical interpretations, called "Adjusting Label Importance Mechanism (ALIM)". It aims to reduce the negative impact of detection errors by trading off the initial candidate set and model outputs. ALIM is a plug-in strategy that can be integrated with existing PLL approaches. Experimental results on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method can achieve state-of-the-art performance on noisy PLL. Our code is available at: https://***/zeroQiaoba/ALIM.

The escalating frequency of geological disasters, local conflicts, and public health crises necessitates robust emergency communication systems within Internet of Things (IoT) frameworks to ensure public safety. Employing Power-Domain NOMA (PD-NOMA) and Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) enables effective multi-device communication that is crucial for emergency responses. However, the practical implementation of NOMA technologies in emergency scenarios is hindered by existing resource constraints and the requirement of prioritizing critical emergency information. To address these limitations, we propose a multi-objective optimization-based NOMA framework to maximize network throughput while ensuring quality of service (QoS) and energy efficiency. This framework incorporates a novel communication grouping algorithm based on queue penalty optimization and an Actor-Critic-based dynamic updating algorithm for multiple resource allocation. Our study proposes a practical approach to enhance emergency communication in disaster areas, ensuring efficient and reliable network performance under various constraints. © 2025 IEEE.

Image steganalysis have been a prominent study in digital forensics and the data science use case of artificial intelligence has been widely adopted in conceptual frameworks. In existing studies, deep learners gain prominence for intrusion detection systems while other dissimilar modules are used for feature extraction. Hence, this study rather employs deep learners as image embedding networks aimed at feature extraction for a predictive analytics of image steganalysis. The extracted numeric image descriptors trains three learner algorithms for pattern recognition using a 10 fold cross-validation system. Experimental result indicates the ensemble of Random forest algorithm and SqueezeNet image embedder as the best for steganalysis in digital forensics while the size of the training set turns out to be insignificant for the supervised machine learning study.

In next-generation Internet services, such as Metaverse, the mixed reality (MR) technique plays a vital role. Yet the limited computing capacity of the user-side MR headset-mounted device (HMD) prevents its further application, especially in scenarios that require a lot of computation. One way out of this dilemma is to design an efficient information sharing scheme among users to replace the heavy and repetitive computation. In this paper, we propose a free-space information sharing mechanism based on full-duplex device-to-device (D2D) semantic communications. Specifically, the view images of MR users in the same real-world scenario may be analogous. Therefore, when one user (i.e., a device) completes some computation tasks, the user can send his own calculation results and the semantic features extracted from the user’s own view image to nearby users (i.e., other devices). On this basis, other users can use the received semantic features to obtain the spatial matching of the computational results under their own view images without repeating the computation. Using generalized small-scale fading models, we analyze the key performance indicators of full-duplex D2D communications, including channel capacity and bit error probability, which directly affect the transmission of semantic information. Generative AI (GAI) models have been rapidly advancing, with a wide range of applications including intelligent networks and mobile AI-generated content (AIGC) services. Despite their numerous applications and potential, such models create opportunities for novel security challenges. In this paper, we examine the challenges and opportunities of GAI in the realm of the security of intelligent network AIGC services such as suggesting security policies, acting as both a "spear" for potential attacks and a "shield" as an integral part of various defense mechanisms. First, we present a comprehensive overview of the GAI landscape, highlighting its applications and the techniques underpinning these advancements, especially large language and diffusion models. Then, we investigate the dynamic interplay between GAI’s spear and shield roles, highlighting two primary categories of potential GAI-related attacks and their respective defense strategies within wireless networks. A case study illustrates the impact of GAI defense strategies on energy consumption in an image request scenario under data poisoning attack. Our results show that by employing an AI-optimized diffusion defense mechanism, energy can be reduced by 8.7%, and retransmission count can be decreased from 32 images, without defense, to just 6 images, showcasing the effectiveness of GAI in enhancing network security. © 2023, CC BY.

3D MRI Brain Tumor Segmentation is of great significance in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Accurate segmentation results are critical for localization and spatial distribution of brain tumors using 3D MRI. However, most existing methods mainly focus on extracting global semantic features from the spatial and depth dimensions of a 3D volume, while ignoring voxel information, inter-layer connections, and detailed features. A 3D brain tumor segmentation network SDV-TUNet (Sparse Dynamic Volume TransUNet) based on an encoder-decoder architecture is proposed to achieve accurate segmentation by effectively combining voxel information, inter-layer feature connections, and intra-axis information. Volumetric data is fed into a 3D network consisting of extended depth modeling for dense prediction by using two modules: sparse dynamic (SD) encoder-decoder module and multi-level edge feature fusion (MEFF) module. The SD encoder-decoder module is utilized to extract global spatial semantic features for brain tumor segmentation, which employs multi-head self-attention and sparse dynamic adaptive fusion in a 3D extended shifted window strategy. In the encoding stage, dynamic perception of regional connections and multi-axis information interactions are realized through local tight correlations and long-range sparse correlations. The MEFF module achieves the fusion of multi-level local edge information in a layer-by-layer incremental manner and connects the fusion to the decoder module through skip connections to enhance the propagation ability of spatial edge information. The proposed method is applied to the BraTS2020 and BraTS2021 benchmarks, and the experimental results show its superior performance compared with state-of-the-art brain tumor segmentation methods.
