Adaptive Data Forwarding Scheme for Diverse Infotainment Services in Vehicular Named Data Networking

Providing diverse infotainment services is crucial for enhancing road safety and improving the overall driving experience in vehicular networks. However, delivering these services within Vehicular Named Data Networking (VNDN) environments presents significant challenges, primarily due to the data broadcast phenomenon and the varying Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of different applications. This paper introduces an adaptive data forwarding scheme designed to effectively manage these challenges and optimize the delivery of infotainment services in VNDN. Our proposed scheme enhances the data packet format by incorporating additional attributes that prioritize data based on its criticality, specifically categorizing it into critical, non-critical, and entertainment data. Furthermore, we introduce an Enhanced Weighted Fair Queuing (EWFQ) policy to optimize the scheduling of data packets according to their importance. Two innovative data forwarding schemes, namely Advanced Push-based Data Forwarding (APDF) and Enhanced Pull-based Data Forwarding (EPDF), are developed to address the needs of critical and non-critical information and entertainment data, respectively. Simulation results demonstrate that our adaptive data forwarding scheme significantly outperforms legacy fragment schemes in delivering infotainment data within dynamic VNDN environments, ensuring reliability and efficiency. This paper contributes to advancing data dissemination strategies in vehicular networks and lays the groundwork for future research in adaptive QoS management. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce InternVL 1.5, an open-source multimodal large language model(MLLM) to bridge the capability gap between open-source and proprietary commercial models in multimodal understanding. We introduce three simple improvements.(1) Strong vision encoder: we explored a continuous learning strategy for the large-scale vision foundation model — InternViT-6B, boosting its visual understanding capabilities, and making it can be transferred and reused in different LLMs.(2) Dynamic high-resolution: we divide images into tiles ranging from 1 to 40 of 448×448 pixels according to the aspect ratio and resolution of the input images, which supports up to 4K resolution input.(3) High-quality bilingual dataset: we carefully collected a high-quality bilingual dataset that covers common scenes, document images,and annotated them with English and Chinese question-answer pairs, significantly enhancing performance in optical character recognition(OCR) and Chinese-related tasks. We evaluate InternVL 1.5 through a series of benchmarks and comparative studies. Compared to both open-source and proprietary commercial models, InternVL 1.5 shows competitive performance, achieving state-of-the-art results in 8 of 18 multimodal benchmarks. Tracking of Wrist and Hand Kinematics with Ultra Low Power Wearable A-mode Ultrasound

Ultrasound-based Hand Gesture Recognition has gained significant attention in recent years. While static gesture recognition has been extensively explored, only a few works have tackled the task of movement regression for real-time tracking, despite its importance for the development of natural and smooth interaction strategies. In this paper, we demonstrate the regression of 3 hand-wrist Degrees of Freedom (DoFs) using a lightweight, A-mode-based, truly wearable US armband featuring four transducers and WULPUS, an ultra-low-power acquisition device. We collect US data, synchronized with an optical motion capture system to establish a ground truth, from 5 subjects. We achieve state-of-the-art performance with an average root-mean-squared-error (RMSE) of 7.32 ± 1.97 and mean-absolute-error (MAE) of 5.31 ± 1.42. Additionally, we demonstrate, for the first time, robustness with respect to transducer repositioning between acquisition sessions, achieving an average RMSE value of 11.11 ± 4.14 and a MAE of 8.46 ± 3.58. Finally, we deploy our pipeline on a real-time low-power microcontroller, showcasing the first instance of multi-DoF regression based on A-mode US data on an embedded device, with a power consumption lower than 30mW and end-to-end latency of ≈ 80 ms. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

This paper proposes an innovative decision support system based on sentiment analysis, specifically designed for the transportation sector. By integrating the BERT model, known for its advanced natural language processing capabilities, our system provides an in-depth and reliable analysis of customer sentiments. This analysis enables managers and decision-makers to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the provided transportation services and to precisely target areas that require improvement. Visual question answering(VQA)is a multimodal task,involving a deep understanding of the image scene and the question’s meaning and capturing the relevant correlations between both modalities to infer the appropriate *** this paper,we propose a VQA system intended to answer yes/no questions about real-world images,in *** support a robust VQA system,we work in two directions:(1)Using deep neural networks to semantically represent the given image and question in a fine-grainedmanner,namely ResNet-152 and Gated Recurrent Units(GRU).(2)Studying the role of the utilizedmultimodal bilinear pooling fusion technique in the *** the model complexity and the overall model *** fusion techniques could significantly increase the model complexity,which seriously limits their applicability for VQA *** far,there is no evidence of how efficient these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques are for VQA systems dedicated to yes/no ***,a comparative analysis is conducted between eight bilinear pooling fusion techniques,in terms of their ability to reduce themodel complexity and improve themodel performance in this case of VQA *** indicate that these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques have improved the VQA model’s performance,until reaching the best performance of 89.25%.Further,experiments have proven that the number of answers in the developed VQA system is a critical factor that *** the effectiveness of these multimodal bilinear pooling techniques in achieving their main objective of reducing the model *** Multimodal Local Perception Bilinear Pooling(MLPB)technique has shown the best balance between the model complexity and its performance,for VQA systems designed to answer yes/no questions.

Named Data Networking(NDN)has emerged as a promising communication paradigm,emphasizing content-centric access rather than location-based *** model offers several advantages for Internet of Healthcare Things(IoHT)environments,including efficient content distribution,built-in security,and natural support for mobility and ***,existing NDN-based IoHT systems face inefficiencies in their forwarding strategy,where identical Interest packets are forwarded across multiple nodes,causing broadcast storms,increased collisions,higher energy consumption,and *** issues negatively impact healthcare system performance,particularly for individuals with disabilities and chronic diseases requiring continuous *** address these challenges,we propose a Smart and Energy-Aware Forwarding(SEF)strategy based on reinforcement learning for NDN-based *** SEF strategy leverages the geographical distance and energy levels of neighboring nodes,enabling devices to make more informed forwarding decisions and optimize next-hop *** approach reduces broadcast storms,optimizes overall energy consumption,and extends network *** system model,which targets smart hospitals and monitoring systems for individuals with disabilities,was examined in relation to the proposed *** SEF strategy was then implemented in the NS-3 simulation environment to assess its performance in healthcare *** demonstrated that SEF significantly enhanced NDN-based IoHT ***,it reduced energy consumption by up to 27.11%,82.23%,and 84.44%,decreased retrieval time by 20.23%,48.12%,and 51.65%,and achieved satisfaction rates that were approximately 0.69 higher than those of other strategies,even in more densely populated *** forwarding strategy is anticipated to substantially improve the quality and efficiency of NDN-based IoHT systems.

The development of Decision Support systems (DSS) for several companies operating in sectors such as tourism, healthcare, or others, presents significant challenges due to the nature of their multi-component architecture. A typical DSS consists of a data component, a model component incorporating machine learning and deep learning techniques, and a user interface component, each one requires diverse technologies. This complexity increases development time and effort, hindering the efficient design of DSS tailored to specific domains like tourism, where real-time decision-making is essential. One promising approach to overcome these challenges is the use of Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs). DSLs allow developers to model and generate code more efficiently by providing high-level abstractions suited to the domain. By leveraging DSLs, it is possible to simplify the design process and automate the generation of code or parts of the DSS, thereby reducing the overall complexity and time required for development. This paper proposes a metamodel for designing DSS, specifically for the Smart Tourism sector. The metamodel serves as a foundation for the creation of DSL. The goal is to provide a solution to facilitate the development of DSS for the demands of tourism. The paper outlines the key concepts, approach, and results, presenting the first element of the proposed DSL which is the metamodel capturing the essential components and relationships for DSS in Smart Tourism. © 2024 IEEE.
