In response to the incidence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer in China and global screening strategies,a collaborative effort was undertaken by seven Chinese medical associations to develop this guideline for cervical cancer *** guideline recommends high-risk human papillomavirus(hr-HPV)testing as the preferred method for primary screening,which should have been approved by authoritative institutions and clinically validated for primary *** areas without access to HPV testing,cytology can be used as an ***,it is recommended to replace cytology with HPV-based screening as conditions ***(HPV testing in combination with cytology)is recommended for areas with sufficient medical resources,opportunistic screening populations,and partial special *** guideline recommends that individuals with a cervix initiate cervical cancer screening at the age 25 years and undergo HPV testing alone or cotesting every five years,or cytology alone every three *** over the age of 65 who have had documented adequate negative prior screening in the past may terminate *** screening programs are proposed for different special *** development of these guidelines is an important step in the effort to eliminate cervical cancer in China.

Predictors of distress among individuals with cancer reporting physical problems

Purpose: Psychological distress among cancer patients is linked to adverse outcomes. The enhanced Distress Thermometer (eDT) allows patients to self-report distress levels on a Likert scale (0–10) and select from a list of physical, emotional, family, and psychological problems contributing to their distress. The physical problem list includes symptoms and functional impairments. Little is known about the predictive validity of the eDT physical problem list. This study aims to evaluate predictors of risk associated with distress scores measured by the eDT among patients with physical problems. Methods: Patient medical records with significant distress were reviewed, defined by eDT scores ≥ 6 with any physical problems or scores < 6 with > 3 problems selected. Patients were categorized into three groups based on eDT score: mild (1–3), moderate (4–6), and severe (7–10). The chi-square test assessed differences in demographic and clinical variables across distress categories. Linear regression evaluated associations between distress scores and significant predictive variables. Results: Data from 549 patients showed severe distress was common among head and neck, breast, skin, and colorectal cancers. Significant predictors of distress included age, gender, geography, and number of physical problems (NPP) reported. Higher distress was associated with individuals younger, female, urban, and reporting more physical problems. The regression model explained 15% of the variance in distress scores. Conclusions: Age, geography, gender, and NPP were factors influencing distress in cancer patients. Future research is recommended to develop more comprehensive clinical and demographic profiles to better identify cancer patients at risk for high distress and unmet supportive care needs. © This is a U.S. Government work and not under copyright protection in the US;foreign copyright protection may apply 2025.

This opinion article explores recent advancements in neural network architectures, highlighting their evolution in biomedical research and their impact on medical imaging interpretation and multimodal data integration. We emphasize the need for domain-specific artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of handling complex clinical tasks, advocating for the development of multimodal large language models that can integrate diverse data sources. These models have the potential to significantly enhance the precision and efficiency of cancer diagnostics, transforming AI from a supplementary tool into a core component of clinical decision-making, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing cancer care.

Purpose: Structural racism could contribute to racial and ethnic disparities in cancer mortality via its broad effects on housing, economic opportunities, and health care. However, there has been limited focus on incorporating structural racism into simulation models designed to identify practice and policy strategies to support health equity. We reviewed studies evaluating structural racism and cancer mortality disparities to highlight opportunities, challenges, and future directions to capture this broad concept in simulation modeling research. Methods: We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-Scoping Review Extension guidelines. Articles published between 2018 and 2023 were searched including terms related to race, ethnicity, cancer-specific and all-cause mortality, and structural racism. We included studies evaluating the effects of structural racism on racial and ethnic disparities in cancer mortality in the United States. Results: A total of 8345 articles were identified, and 183 articles were included. Studies used different measures, data sources, and methods. For example, in 20 studies, racial residential segregation, one component of structural racism, was measured by indices of dissimilarity, concentration at the extremes, redlining, or isolation. Data sources included cancer registries, claims, or institutional data linked to area-level metrics from the US census or historical mortgage data. Segregation was associated with worse survival. Nine studies were location specific, and the segregation measures were developed for Black, Hispanic, and White residents. Conclusions: A range of measures and data sources are available to capture the effects of structural racism. We provide a set of recommendations for best practices for modelers to consider when incorporating the effects of structural racism into simulation models. © 2023 Oxford University Press. Background This study aimed to indirectly examine whether the implementation of clinical breast examination-based screening program in Morocco has been successful in downstaging and improving survival rates. Breast cancer patients detected through the screening pathway were compared with those detected through self-referral over the same period in terms of cancer stage at diagnosis, tumor characteristics, care delays, and survival. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted between April 2019 and August 2020 at two major public oncology centers. Results A total of 896 women with confirmed breast cancer were recruited (483 were program-referred and 413 were self-referred). The authors did not report any significant difference between the two groups in terms of stage at diagnosis, molecular profile, or histopathological grade. Early-stage cancer (stage I-II) was detected in 55.7% of self-referred participants compared to 55.5% of program-referred participants. Median intervals between symptom recognition, pathological diagnosis, and treatment initiation were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, survival after treatment showed no significant difference between patients screened by the program and self-referred patients. The 3-year survival rate after treatment was 94.5% for patients referred through the program and 88.6% for patients not referred through the program ( p = .16). Conclusions This study highlights the importance of equitable and timely access to high-quality diagnosis and treatment facilities, leading to substantial downstaging and enhanced survival rates. Continued efforts to improve quality and expand coverage to include asymptomatic women will consolidate the health infrastructure gains achieved by the Moroccan breast cancer screening program.

Biliary tract carcinoma(BTC)is a group of malignant tumors that originate in the digestive system and occurs with a high incidence in *** consistent and comparable assessments of BTC disease burden have been conducted at national or subnational levels,and little is known about the demographic,temporal,and geographic patterns of epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of BTC in *** incidence,mortality,disability-adjusted life-years(DALYs),years of life lost(YLLs)due to premature death and years lived with disability(YLDs)of BTC were comprehensively examined by age,sex,and calendar year in the Chinese population,using the methodological framework and analytical strategies used for the 2021 Global Burden of Disease ***-age incidence increased from 17,077 to 51,720between 1990 and 2021,and the age-standardized incidence rate rose by 13.62%;all-age deaths increased from 17,251 to 37,833,but the age-standardized mortality rate fell by nearly *** DALYs rose by 89.57%while the age-standardized DALY rate fell by 23.24%.Variations of the tendencies in BTC burden were found between sexes and age *** for each provincial region indicate that coastal eastern provincial regions have higher incidence and YLD levels,whereas northern provincial regions have higher mortality,DALY,and YLL *** proportions of DALYs attributable to high body mass index(BMI)illustrate the growing attribution obesity has made,and high BMI usually puts more burden on northern provincial *** results provide evidence to support precise,targeted,and customed public health strategies aimed at enhancing biliary tract health among the Chinese population.

Aspiring to the idea that praxis opens up possibilities for transformation, this commentary reflects on the work of contributing authors to consider interrelationships between pedagogy, research, and praxis of community-engaged work to create change through the academic enterprise without losing sight of goals to support often-underserved communities and populations that anthropologists study. This treatment situates the accounts of community-engaged research in the context of the NIH investment in clinical translational research and explores the notion of engaging the community beyond clinical trial accrual while recognizing the vexed subject position of anthropologists in the employ of academic medical centers. The commentary then reflects on key terms from the contributors, questioning the objective of getting back to normal, the lived experience of intersectionality, and the challenge of centering root causes as we work to remedy disparities/inequities. Acknowledging the power of NIH as a sociocultural driver of academic medicine, the commentary positions anthropology as a disciplinary vehicle for moving between the individual and the social registers, ending with a reflection on critique as a form of praxis. © 2025 The Author(s).
