This research introduces the narratives and sensor driven behavior treatment framework in the form of a serious game. For this, well-known fairy tale, the Fisherman and the Genie from the Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, also known as the Arabian Nights, is refined to be used as the narrative storytelling source of the game platform. In addition, the platform is interfaced with brain-computer interface (BCI) and motion sensing assistive devices. This game platform is built on top of the Unity3D engine to provide children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with a serious game which helps them improve their behavior with dynamically adaptive intervention scheme. Moreover, their brainwaves and motions are captured and identified by the game platform in real-time. The monitored sensing data is stored in the Elasticsearch cloud search engine for real-time and post-performance evaluation of players' behavior and the effectiveness of this behavior treatment mechanism. The main idea of the behavior treatment is to make the narrative contents drive a player and help a cyber character, the fisherman. The real-world player accomplishes the given narrative quests, resulting in helping the fisherman reach his goal. The degree of the player's attention level and his/her fidelity to the given quests directly influence the flow of the game, by enforcing the fisherman to proceed to go fishing or be prohibited from continuing his job. This adaptive intervention affects the entire paths of the game and significantly delays the clearing time of game sessions. As a result, this platform is expected to help children with ADHD improve their level of attention, control their hyperactive behavior, and develop their social skills as they learn how to behave according to the presented narrative game contents. In addition, this behavior treatment approach is evaluated by analyzing the attention and meditation levels, the number of recognized motions, and the completio

The fundamental capability of Nuclear Thermal Propulsion (NTP) is game changing for space exploration. A first generation Nuclear Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (NCPS) based on NTP could provide high thrust at a specific impulse above 900 s, roughly double that of state of the art chemical engines. The foundation provided by development and utilization of a NCPS could enable development of extremely high performance systems. The role of the NCPS in the development of advanced nuclear propulsion systems could be analogous to the role of the DC-3 in the development of advanced aviation. Progress made under the NCPS project could help enable both advanced NTP and advanced Nuclear Electric Propulsion (NEP).
Studies of the implications of HRI will involve immersion and interaction with robots;however, many such studies are limited because current day robots aren't sufficiently mature technically to carry out meaningfu...

This paper presents a heuristic approach to classify images on web pages using image contents and image processing techniques. The initial goal is to classify images into four groups: human, icon, banner, and scenic image. The heuristics are applied in two phases: Segmentation Phase, and Feature Analysis Phase. In the Segmentation Phase, image processing techniques are used to detect skin colour. In the Feature Analysis Phase, the information from prior phase together with other image information, such as size and number of colours found in the image are used to classify the image. The algorithm was tested with one hundred images. The experimental results showed accuracy of 87.00 percent. After elaborately examining causes of error occurred, the low contrast human image caused the proposed algorithm difficult to segment human face by RGB colour skin tone. Also, the number of colour might not be the excellent factor in determining whether the image is an icon. We plan to improve this algorithm by using a new colour model for segmenting skin tone colour. Also, the other factors such as shape of the objects could be taken into consideration to improve the algorithm performance. Then, we will integrate this algorithm to our under developing web document annotation system.

The purpose of this study is to explore the factors that influence creative teaching and to find out what effective strategies are used by three award‐winning teachers in the learning area of Integrated Activities. As creative thinking is crucial for the knowledge economy, it is essential that education serves its purpose in improving this important aspect. The methods used for data collection include in‐depth interview, focus group interview, classroom observation and content analysis. Three teachers with a GreaTeach Creative Instruction Award for creative teaching in the Integrated Activities field were selected as subjects. Results were acquired by analysing the interview content, the teaching plans, teachers’ reflection and the classroom observation videotapes. The study found that: the factors influencing creative teaching in Integrative Activities are (a) personality traits: persistence, willingness to develop, acceptance of new experiences, self‐confidence, sense of humour, curiosity, depth of ideas, imagination, etc.; (b) family factors: open and tolerant ways of teaching children, creative performance of parents, etc.; (c) experiences of growth and education: self‐created games and stories, brainstorming between classmates, etc.; (d) beliefs in teaching, hard work, motivation and (e) the administrative side of school organization. Among these factors, beliefs in teaching, hard work and motivation are the main aspects. The effective teaching strategies used by the awarded teachers are: student‐centred activities, a connection between teaching contents and real life, management of skills in class, open‐ended questions, an encouragement of creative thinking and use of technology and multimedia. Integrated Activities are closely connected to life experience and a basis for the development of creative thinking within education.
