Due to the increasing amount of data available online, the World Wide Web has becoming one of the most valuable resources for inf.rmation retrievals and knowledge discoveries. Web mining technologies are the right solutions for knowledge discovery on the Web. The knowledge extracted from the Web can be used to raise the performances for Web inf.rmation retrievals, question answering, and Web based data warehousing. In this paper, we provide an introduction of Web mining as well as a review of the Web mining categories. Then we focus on one of these categories: the Web structure mining. Within this category, we introduce link mining and review two popular methods applied in Web structure mining: HITS and PageRank.

The IPv6-enabled network architecture has recently attracted much attention. In this paper, we address the issue of connecting MANETs to global IPv6 networks while supporting IPv6 mobility. Specifically, we propose a self-organizing, self-addressing, self-routing IPv6-enabled MANET inf.astructure, referred to as IPv6-based MANET. The proposed self-organization addressing protocol automatically organizes nodes into tree architecture and configures their global IPv6 addresses. Novel unicast and multicast routing protocols, based on longest prefix matching and soft state routing cache, are specially designed for the IPv6-based MANET. Mobile IPv6 is also supported such that a mobile node can move from one MANET to another. Moreover, a P2P inf.rmation sharing system is also designed over the proposed IPv6-based MANET. We have implemented a prototyping system to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiently of the IPv6-based MANET and the P2P inf.rmation sharing system. Simulations are also conducted to show the efficiency of the proposed routing protocol and the P2P file sharing system.

This paper presents a new method of modeling and simulation of a linear dipole antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The input impedance of the linear dipole antenna is modeled as a RLC equivalent circuit using vector fitting method, and the input current of antenna is simulated in circuit simulator. Then the radiated far field is calculated from the input current, which is compared to the result obtained by electromagnetic simulation software XFDTD6.0 and the validity of the modeling method is verified. With this equivalent circuit model, UWB transmitters and receivers can be designed in circuit simulators in order to facilitate the co-design of the antenna with the impulse generating circuitry without running separate electromagnetic simulations

There are many natural language processing applications of a computational grammar. In this paper, modeling of Urdu/Hindi noun-case and verbal system based on head driven phrase structure grammar (HPSG) is presented. Urdu/Hindi have a strong noun case marking system, which results in free phrase order. Subject case depends on tense aspect and as well as on verb transitivity. Moreover, verbal morpheme and auxiliary in Urdu/Hindi tense system sometimes agrees with subject of the sentence, sometimes with object and sometimes takes default agreement. This results in a more involved model based on HPSG as compared with English, where dependency is always on subject. This paper proposes the modifications in HPSG based model of English that deals with more involved agreement requirements of Urdu/Hindi sentences.

Existing curve tracing algorithms drive an evolving curve to the mean or median of the data. However, if the data set contains heavy noise, these algorithms may not produce correct results. In this paper, we introduce a level set based affine transform method to enhance the capability of a class of fuzzy curve tracing algorithms. The essential idea of our approach is to drive the initial curve towards the object data using level sets as well as affine transforms. Experimental results show that the proposed method can enhance fuzzy curve tracing algorithms for dealing with the data corrupted by noise.

e-Scientists stand to benefit from tools and environments that either hide, or help to manage, the inherent complexity involved in accessing and making concerted use of the diverse resources that might be used as part of an in silico experiment. This paper illustrates the benefits that derive from the provision of integrated access to contextual inf.rmation that links the phases of a problem-solving activity, so that the steps of a solution do not happen in isolation, but rather as the components of a coherent whole. Experiences with my Grid workflow execution environment (Taverna) are presented, where an inf.rmation model provides the conceptual basis for contextualisation. This inf.rmation model describes key characteristics that are shared by many e-science activities, and is used both to organise the scientist's personal data resources, and to support data sharing and capture within the myGrid environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

One indication of the maturation of computer science Education as a research-based discipline is the recent emergence of several large-scale studies spanning multiple institutions. This paper examines a "family" of these multi-institutional, multi-national studies, detailing core elements and points of difference in both study design and the organization of the research team, and highlighting the costs and benefits associated with the different approaches. A kind of artifact in myocardial positron emission tomography (PET) is the count loss due to the limited spatial resolution of PET, which is also named as partial volume effect (PVE). A deconvolution method was developed to correct for the artifact, in which the counts were evaluated as a parameter in the convolution. One-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) models were used to create the convolution equation. Counts, background, myocardial wall position and thickness were parameters of the equation. The method needs non-linear fitting by an iterative process. computer simulated myocardial images, PET image of phantoms and patient's myocardial PET images were used for evaluating the method. For simulated images, the corrected recovery coefficient is between 0.97 and 1.10 for 2D model and is near 0.9 for 1D model. 2D model can be applied for myocardium as thin as 0.25 times of the system spatial resolution while 1D model is only for 1.5 times of it. For phantom images, the recovery coefficient of 2D is near 1.0 for different thickness of the myocardium. The iterating process converges for a wide range of different size of myocardium and noise levels. 2D model allows correction for PVE exactly even for very thin myocardium.

Peer databases are stand-alone, independently developed databases that are linked to each other through acquaintances. They each contain local data, a set of mapping tables and expressions, and a set of ECA rules that are used to exchange data among them. The set of acquaintances and peers constitutes a dynamic peer-to-peer network in which acquaintances are continuously established and abolished. We present techniques for specifying data exchange policies on-the-fly based on constraints imposed on the way in which peers exchange and share data. We realize the on-the-fly specification of data exchange policies by building coordination ECA rules at acquaintance time. Finally, we describe mechanisms related to establishing and abolishing acquaintances by means of examples. Specifically, we consider syntactical constructs and executional semantics of establishing and abolishing acquaintances. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

In this paper, ICA is presented as an efficient feature extraction algorithm used in automatic face recognition task. In a task such as face recognition, important inf.rmation may be contained in the high-order relationship among pixels. ICA is sensitive to high-order statistic in the data and finds not-necessarily orthogonal bases, so it may better identify and reconstruct high-dimensional face image data. ICA algorithms are time-consuming and sometimes converge difficultly. So a modified FastICA algorithm is developed in this paper, which only need to computer Jacobian matrix once time in one iteration and achieves the correspondent effect of Fast-ICA. After obtaining all independent components, a genetic algorithm is introduced to select optimal independent components (ICs). In this paper, ICA is compared with principle component analysis (PCA) based feature extraction method. The experiment results show that modified FastICA algorithm fast convergence speed and genetic algorithm optimize recognition performance. ICA based features extraction method is robust to variations and promising for face recognition.
