GaAs/GaAlAs multilayer structures are investigated by ECV technique on this paper. Two different MBE sample were used for investigation. The sample have a GaAs/GaAlAs junction. One sample is a HBT structure, the other one is a p-i-n photodiode structure. The multilayer structures were tested with different aqueous electrolytes and the ECV results were controlled by SR and TEM measurement, too.

Fuzzy membership functions may be defined over universes of discourse that are not fixed and well known but that instead are subject to evolution, that is to say universes of discourse that change over time according to some probability distribution. In such a case, the value of the membership functions will depend upon the probability distribution defined on the universe. If the distribution is unknown, then a procedural way of producing good approximations of the membership function is needed.

During a dialytic treatment, plasma phosphate (Pi) has a peculiar time course. It reaches a nadir value approximately 90 minutes after the beginning of the treatment and then, despite the ongoing removal, it exhibits either a constant steady state or a slow rebound. In order to quantitatively describe this kinetics, the authors have proposed three different two-compartment models, in which the first compartment represents plasma and extracellular fluids and the second one intra-cellular fluids (IF); to explain the Pi time course, an endogenous release of phosphate must also be present. The models have been identified from a set of data (7 patients). The hypotheses underlying their structure and the identification results were discussed and one model was chosen as the best description of the system, in terms of both mathematical indices and physiological considerations. In this model, the endogenous production of phosphate enters the IF compartment and is dependent on the plasma concentration and on the difference from its initial value. This model was also capable of correctly predicting the qualitative time course of Pi also in the post dialysis period.

The paper presents a method of designing curves and surfaces by solving the constraints imposed on the shapes at multiresolution levels. In this method, the curves and surfaces are represented by endpoint interpolating B splines and their corresponding wavelets. At each resolution level, the shape is determined by minimizing the energy function subject to the deformation of the shape while preserving the given constraints. Constraints at a low resolution level are converted to those at a high resolution level using wavelet transforms in order to associate all the constraints with the common basis functions. The constraints at multiresolution levels are then solved recursively from low to high resolution levels. Design examples are also presented.

Proposes a powerful model, called MITOS (Model for Intelligent Three-dimensional Object Support) for the intelligent support of spatial data consisting of irregular 3D objects and their interrelations. The core novelty of the proposed data model lies in its delicate way of representing the (complicated) world of 3D objects in order to reduce its complexity. MITOS achieves this by discretizing the space, using mostly topological notions and finite sets, and by recalling geometry only when needed. On the other hand, MITOS's objects are effectively handled by the MITOS language, which is an integration of an object-oriented programming language and a logic-based one.

Numerous architectural description languages (ADLs) have been developed, each providing complementary capabilities for architectural development and analysis. Unfortunately, each ADL and supporting toolset operates in isolation, making it difficult to integrate those tools and share architectural descriptions. Acme is being developed as a joint effort of the software architecture research community as a common interchange format for architecture design tools. Acme provides a structural framework for characterizing architectures, together with annotation facilities for additional ADL-specific inf.rmation. This scheme permits subsets of ADL tools to share architectural inf.rmation that is jointly understood, while tolerating the presence of inf.rmation that falls outside their common vocabulary. In this paper we describe Acme's key features, rationale, and technical innovations.

This paper presents a novel method for designing TSC m-out-of-n code checkers taking into account a realistic fault model including stuck-at, transistor stuck-on, transistor stuck-open, resistive bridging faults and breaks. The proposed design method is the first method in the open literature that takes into account a realistic fault model and can be applied for all practical values of m and n. Apart from the above the proposed checkers are very compact and very fast. Another benefit of the proposed TSC checkers is that all faults are tested by single pattern tests thus the probability of achieving the TSC goal is greater than in checkers requiring two-pattern tests.

This paper presents a PD controller for robot manipulators simultaneously considering joint flexibility, actuators dynamics as well as friction. The convergence analysis of the proposed PD controller is carried out using passivity. Global convergence to a desired fixed angular position is proved only using position and velocity measurements.

Electromagnetic compatibility is a major problem in mobile communications. We analyse the phenomena of electromagnetic wave scattering by obstacles present in the communication path. Here the scattering model consists of an inf.nite cylindrical conductor near an inf.nite conducting plane. This scattering problem involving the conducting plane can be exchanged with that of two elliptic cylinders, using the theory of images. Expansion of fields in terms of Mathieu functions is used to analytically describe the scattered field. To apply the boundary conditions, we have used, in the analysis, the addition theorem of Mathieu functions. We obtained an exact solution for the present problem, and the far fields and the near fields are numerically computed for different parameters.

Successful practical applications of MLP networks trained by first order line search optimization approaches initiated a wave of interest in improving the speed of convergence and finding the optimum structure. Recently, training procedures have been implemented that incorporate dynamic structural changes of a network during a learning phase. The objective is to optimize the size of a network and yet maintain good performance. Essential part of structure modifying algorithms is the formulation of criteria for detecting the irrelevant structural elements. Performance measures for MLP networks previously designed by the authors (1997) allow the derivation of the individual performance measure Ipm(u/sub 1/). The underlying reference ground for the individual performance measure Ipm(u/sub 1/) is the estimate of a spectral radius of an error matrix for a neural network. The estimate of a spectral radius can be affected by imposed modifications of structure. This paper presents the first deterministic analytical apparatus for observing the effects of structural modifications on the estimate of a spectral radius. Theoretical material has wide applicability. However, it is especially useful for developing training procedures incorporating the dynamic structural changes and also for monitoring the performance of MLP networks.
