We focus on sounding signal design for single-input single-output. It is shown analytically that the optimum sounding signal for the time static case, f d T = 0, is one whose frequency spectrum has constant magnitude across the band. Equivalently the autocorrelation of the sounding signal should be an impulse. Simulation results show that the optimum sounding signal outperforms the random sounding signals.

Documents and web pages share many similarities. Thus classification methods used in documents can be applied to advanced web content, with or even without modifications. Algorithms for document and web classification are presented as an introduction. One out of many tools that can be used in method evaluation, application and modification is WEKA (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis). Testing results and conclusions strengthen the principles and bases of classification, while demonstrating the need for a new interlayer in the evaluation of classification methods. © 2011 IEEE.

Hardware efficient encryption algorithms are necessary for applications like low cost Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. In order to keep the cost as low as possible, the designers of lightweight algorithms are using simplified versions of well studied components. Unfortunately, in most cases this simplification leads to weak constructions. In this paper, we investigate one such case. Recently, a low hardware complexity binary additive stream cipher was proposed in the Computers & Security journal. This stream cipher is based on a simplified version of a family of universal hash functions. The new family is called Toeplitz hash. The Toeplitz hash functions can be very efficiently implemented on hardware and for that the proposed stream cipher is suitable for low cost applications. However, we demonstrate that the security of the cipher is much weaker than it was claimed. More precisely, we introduce a known-plaintext attack that can retrieve the secret key with very low computational complexity that requires only a few known keystream bits by taking advantage of the low cost.

In this paper, an improved blind equalization algorithm based on multiple-layer forward neural network is proposed, and a new transfer function for the neural network is designed. The computer simulations show that the improved algorithm have faster convergence speed and smaller bit error rate than traditional forward neural network algorithm.

The 440 W distributed power system(DPS) is developed for driving PDP(SD42") TV. The half bridge ZVS PWM converter is used in sustain, set and reset for reducing the losses. All of 15 output powers are designed. Each electrode is supplied by these powers. In this system, mainly outputs are Va for address, Vs for sustain, Vset for set up, Ve for reset and Vscan for scan voltage. The experimental results including steady state response and transient response are obtained for these outputs. The measured maximum efficiency through the DPS developed is about 91% in case of 220 V input and full load. And the efficiency of the sustain voltage(Vs) is up to 95.27%.

The paper presents a genetic programming (GP) system that evolves polynomial harmonic networks. The hybrid tree-structured network representation suggests that terminal harmonics with non-multiple frequencies may enter polynomial function nodes as variables. The harmonics with non-multiple, irregular frequencies are derived analytically using the discrete Fourier transform. The development of polynomial harmonic GP includes also design of a regularized statistical fitness function for improved search control and overfitting avoidance. Empirical results show that this hybrid version outperforms the previous GP system manipulating polynomials STROGANOFF, the traditional Koza-style GP, and the harmonic GMDH network algorithm on processing time series.

In this paper, we introduce a powerful solution for complex problems which are required to be solved using neural nets. This is done by using modular neural nets (MNNs) that divide the input space into several homogenous regions. Such an approach is applied to implement XOR functions, 16 logic functions on one bit level, and 2-bit digital multiplier. Compared to previous non-modular designs, a salient reduction in the order of computations and hardware requirements is obtained.

The f-divergence is a general class of divergences which includes various divergences used in representing the difference between two probability densities. It was introduced by Csiszar. Lin, on the other hand, in 1991 introduced a divergence based on a new idea. The inequalities relating the divergence to the existing two divergences are shown, and the results are applied to the problems in inf.rmation theory. This paper discusses the relation between the inequality concerning Lin's divergence and the inequality concerning the f-divergence, Based on Lin's method of constructing the divergence, a new divergence called Hermite-Hadamard divergence is introduced. The property of the proposed divergence, as well as its relation to Lin's inequality, ate discussed. Using the proposed divergence, an inequality which is improved further compared to the inequality relating the Kullback divergence and Hellinger distance is derived. Those results are derived in this paper.
