Clay shale has been a problematic soil due to its weathering characteristic. Weathering is the degradation of shear strength due to exposure to water and air. As the depth of soil increases, the weathering effect would decrease, leading to different weathering grades. On a slope, the different weathering grades would lead to an interface slope failure. Until now, laboratory methods on finding the interface shear strength between the weathering grades seldom been investigated. This research will propose a method and give an evaluation of the results. An interface direct shear test has been conducted until its residual state between an undisturbed clay shale and weathering clay shale. The weathering condition of the bottom clay shale is achieved by soaking and drying the bottom of the sample using a two-days wetting-drying cycle. Results showed scattered values with different behavior for the soaked and unsoaked conditions for increasing weathering days. The soaked condition resulted in an increasing cohesion, increasing average stress ratio, and decreasing friction angle. The unsoaked condition resulted in decreasing cohesion, increasing friction angle, and increasing average stress ratio. Previous research shows that, the residual shear stress should have decreased as the weathering days increases. The cause for the contrary results is due to soil swelling and the absence of a separator when weathering the bottom clay shale. In conclusion, the test conducted is not quite suitable to understand the interface shearing behavior of weathering clay shale. In the modern era, technology has become an integral part of human life, particularly in image processing. This advanced technology is now applied to parking areas to identify vacant parking spaces. The application is designed to detect empty parking slots in real time using image data captured by a camera as input. The system then automatically scans for available parking spaces, displaying the results on the interface with green indicators for empty slots and red for occupied ones. The process involves several key stages, such as image pre-processing, image segmentation, and object detection. The system employs the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) method to enhance its object detection capabilities. This system achieves a high accuracy rate of 94%under well-lit conditions. This novel technology optimizes parking management, providing an effective and dependable method to monitor parking availability in real time. © 2024 IEEE.

Population aging resulting from demographic changes requires some challenging decisions and necessary steps to be taken by different stakeholders to manage current and future demand for assistance and support. The consequences of population aging can be mitigated to some extent by assisting technologies that can support the autonomous living of older individuals and persons in need of care in their private environments as long as possible. A variety of technical solutions are already available on the market, but privacy protection is a serious, often neglected, issue when using such (assisting) technology. Thus, privacy needs to be thoroughly taken under consideration in this context. In a three-year project PAAL (‘Privacy-Aware and Acceptable Lifelogging Services for Older and Frail People’), researchers from different disciplines, such as law, rehabilitation, human-computer interaction, and computer science, investigated the phenomenon of privacy when using assistive lifelogging technologies. In concrete terms, the concept of Privacy by Design was realized using two exemplary lifelogging applications in private and professional environments. A user-centered empirical approach was applied to the lifelogging technologies, investigating the perceptions and attitudes of (older) users with different health-related and biographical profiles. The knowledge gained through the interdisciplinary collaboration can improve the implementation and optimization of assistive applications. In this paper, partners of the PAAL project present insights gained from their cross-national, interdisciplinary work regarding privacy-aware and acceptable lifelogging technologies. © 2022, The Author(s).

Software-defined networking (SDN) revolutionizes network management by centralizing control, but this centralization also introduces notable vulnerabilities, especially Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) poisoning attacks. These attacks exploit the ARP protocol, redirecting network traffic to malicious destinations. This research provides a deep dive into the nuances of these threats within the SDN context, outlining their mechanisms and potential countermeasures. A significant highlight of this paper is exploring Machine Learning (ML) as a pivotal mitigation approach. By analyzing and distinguishing between benign and malicious traffic patterns in real-time, ML models present a robust solution to enhance SDN security. The findings of our paper underscore the criticality of integrating these advanced predictive techniques in SDNs, paving the way for a safer and more resilient networking future. © 2024 IEEE.

Online examination evaluation methods are used as an alternative to the traditional examination's way of evaluation methods. They offer a number of advantages while addressing issues associated with outdated conventional approaches. Online evaluation methods are mainly used for objective and short answers based exams but may not suitable for assessing the depth knowledge in candidates. So, candidate's descriptive examinations are conducted to assess their depth of knowledge. Descriptive evaluation methods have been put into practice for quite some time but they greatly rely on keyword-matching techniques between the questions and answers. Due to this limitation, the semantic meanings of these answers are ignored. In current research, the deficiencies in prevalent systems have been addressed by calculating the semantic and syntactic similarity between answers. Moreover, the repetitive words and similarity between counteractive answers has also been considered. We have used SQuAD1 dataset in current research. Our model has achieved a value of 0.88 in terms of accuracy for while computing similarity among listed items. © 2023 IEEE.

Recently,there has been an upsurge of activity in image-based non-photorealistic rendering(NPR),and in particular portrait image stylisation,due to the advent of neural style transfer(NST).However,the state of performance evaluation in this field is poor,especially compared to the norms in the computer vision and machine learning ***,the task of evaluating image stylisation is thus far not well defined,since it involves subjective,perceptual,and aesthetic *** make progress towards a solution,this paper proposes a new structured,threelevel,benchmark dataset for the evaluation of stylised portrait *** criteria were used for its construction,and its consistency was validated by user ***,a new methodology has been developed for evaluating portrait stylisation algorithms,which makes use of the different benchmark levels as well as annotations provided by user studies regarding the characteristics of the *** perform evaluation for a wide variety of image stylisation methods(both portrait-specific and general purpose,and also both traditional NPR approaches and NST)using the new benchmark dataset.

This work presents a numerical investigation of acoustic cavitation in Newtonian fluid based on frequency ultrasound. The model of ultrasonic cavitation dynamics is formulated by a modified Rayleigh-Plesset equation and an acoustic pressure equation. The exponential B-Spline collection method was employed to obtain the numerical solutions of the given cavitation bubble model, considering the effect of acoustic pressure. The behaviour of the cavitation microbubbles' radius and the internal pressure of acoustic cavitation were examined at different values of frequencies. The obtained results reveal the importance of frequencies in ultrasound, which play a vital role in changing the behaviour of cavitation bubbles. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we modify the precedent method to assign commuting option to each worker in synthetic populations. Synthetic population is a data with household compositions in a specific community. Based on the relations between residential place and workplace, we try to assign commuting options such as train, bus, automobile, motorcycle, bicycle and walk. Since the previous method considered only trains as commuting option using the ratio of workers who commute their working place by train, we include the ratio of workers who commute by their automobiles in this paper. Using publicly released statistics about commuting options in each city, we successfully assign appropriate commuting options to each worker. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an application of the Multi-Objective Branch-and-Bound based on Decomposition (MOBB/D) method for Branch-and-Cut, combining branch-and-bound and cutting-plane methods. Traditionally, multi-objective branch-and-bound methods for multi-objective mixed-integer linear programming problems struggle with the large number of Pareto-optimal solutions. MOBB/D addresses this by decomposing multi-objective problems into single-objective subproblems using weight vectors and applying branch-and-bound to each, with information sharing between nearby subproblems. In this paper, we customize the MOBB/D method for Branch-and-Cut to achieve an efficient search by sharing cutting plane information in MOBB/D. We demonstrate our approach with a case study on garbage collection planning in Muroran City, Hokkaido, Japan. This case study combines facility location and route optimization within a multi-objective framework, balancing the burdens on residents and garbage collection workers. Numerical experiments compare execution times and solutions with and without cutting plane sharing, and visualize the impact of different objective balance preferences on route optimization. The results show substantial efficiency gains and provide practical insights for multi-objective optimization in urban planning. © 2024 IEEE.

This study investigates the effectiveness of various types of native ads in terms of capturing users' attention and engagement using eye-tracking data to analyze user interactions. To this end, 47 participants compared four types of native ads with two traditional banner ads embedded within a website designed specifically for the needs of the study. Results confirm that native ads, and particularly content integrated ones like recommendation widgets and native ads in-feed, attract higher levels of attention compared to traditional banner ads. These ads maintain high deception rates, with users mostly failing to recognize them, a fact that raises questions about users' trust and annoyance. The variation that creates the highest click-through rate is the promoted listing, while typical banner advertisements attracted limited engagement suffering from banner blindness. This study highlights the delicate balance between effective ad placement and ethical transparency by advertisers, emphasizing the need for clear labelling to maintain user trust. These findings present useful insights for marketers and interface designers, with guidance on creating effective yet usable ad designs in digital spaces.
