Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that ranks 13th as the deadliest disease in the world. Without treatment, pulmonary TB has a 50% chance of causing death. The presence of Covid-19 has further hindered the management of pulmonary TB, coupled with low awareness among the Indonesian population regarding early detection of TB, making it a serious problem. One of the ways to improve the early detection rate of TB is by developing a mobile health (mHealth) application. However, many mHealth applications fail because they are not designed to meet user needs. A design plan was created for a mobile screening application for pulmonary TB, aiming to increase awareness and interest in the early detection of TB using the User Centered Design method to ensure that the designed application fulfills user needs. The design of the mobile application is expected to facilitate the screening process from anywhere. By making screening easier, it is hoped to increase the interest in early detection of TB among the population. The usability test of the application design, conducted using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) method, obtained excellent results in all six tested aspects. This indicates that the prototype design of the E-Screening TB application has met user criteria. The results of the six tested aspects, namely Attractiveness, Efficiency, Perspicuity, Dependability, Novelty, and Stimulation, all achieved an excellent level, which represents the highest ranking (top 10% of the dataset) in the UEQ testing method.

There are several situations where it would be convenient if a quantity of interest essential to support a medical or regulatory decision could be predicted as a function of other measurable quantities rather than measured experimentally. To do so, we need to ensure that in all practical cases, the predicted value does not differ from what we would measure experimentally by more than an acceptable threshold, defined by the context in which that quantity of interest is used in the decision-making process. This is called Credibility Assessment. Initial work, which guided the elaboration of the first technical standard on the topic (ASME VV-40:2018), focused on predictive models built from available mechanistic knowledge of the phenomenon of interest. For this class of predictive models, sometimes called biophysical models, a credibility assessment practice based on the so-called verification, Validation, Uncertainty, Quantification and Applicability (VVUQA) analysis is accepted. Through theoretical considerations, this position paper aims to summarise a complex debate on whether such an approach can be extended to predictive models built without any mechanistic knowledge (machine learning (ML) predictors). We conclude that the VVUQA can be extended to ML-based predictors;however, since there is no certainty that the features used to predict the quantity of interest are necessary and sufficient, according to the VVUQA framework, such credibility assessment is limited to the test sets used for the validation studies. This calls for a Total Product Life Cycle approach, where periodic retesting of ML-based predictors is part of post-marketing surveillance to ensure that no "unknown bias"may play a role. © 2013 IEEE.

Machine learning has emerged as one transformative tool in predicting student academic performance. This study evaluates machine learning models regression in predicting student academic performance. It can be found optimised Support Vector Regression (SVR) model accurately predicts student academic performance using a benchmark dataset from Kaggle. The approach incorporated Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) for optimal feature selection while key parameters of the SVR model are tuned through grid search optimisation to enhance model performance. The optimised SVR model achieves exceptional predictive accuracy with an R-squared value of 0.97, Mean Absolute Error of 2.98, Mean Squared Error of 13.28, Root Mean Squared Error of 3.64, Median Absolute Error of 2.65, and Mean Absolute Percentage Error of 0.23. Comparative analysis demonstrates the superior performance of optimised SVR model against Decision Tree, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbors, Bayesian Ridge, and Gradient Boosting models. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of robustness and reliability of our approach, offering valuable insights for educational institutions to develop targeted interventions and support systems.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data on 1,000 people from China who were tracked over an average period of six years. The participants were divided into two groups: those who lived in areas with high levels of air pollution and those who lived in areas with low levels of air pollution. The study analyzed data on patients with lung cancer, including their age, gender, exposure to air pollution, alcohol consumption, dust allergy, occupational hazards, genetic risk, chronic lung disease, balanced diet, obesity, smoking, passive smoking, chest pain, cough, hemoptysis, fatigue, weight loss, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, nail thickening and snoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

A serious, all-encompassing, and deadly cancer that affects every part of the body is skin cancer. The most prevalent causes of skin lesions are UV radiation, which can damage human skin, and moles. If skin cancer is discovered early, it may be adequately treated. In order to diagnose skin lesions with less effort, dermatologists are increasingly turning to machine learning (ML) techniques and computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems. This paper proposes a computerized method for multiclass lesion classification using a fusion of optimal deep-learning model features. The dataset used in this work, ISIC2018, is imbalanced; therefore, augmentation is performed based on a few mathematical operations. After that, two pre-trained deep learning models (DarkNet-19 and MobileNet-V2) have been fine-tuned and trained on the selected dataset. After training, features are extracted from the average pool layer and optimized using a hybrid firefly optimization technique. The selected features are fused in two ways: (i) original serial approach and (ii) proposed threshold approach. Machine learning classifiers are used to classify the chosen features at the end. Using the ISIC2018 dataset, the experimental procedure produced an accuracy of 89.0%. Whereas, 87.34, 87.57, and 87.45 are sensitivity, precision, and F1 score respectively. At the end, comparison is also conducted with recent techniques, and it shows the proposed method shows improved accuracy along with other performance measures.

Noninvasive entomological insect monitoring often utilizes a variety of tools such as LiDAR to gather information without interfering with the insects in their habitat. These collection methods often result in large amounts of data that can be te-dious and lengthy to interpret and analyze. Machine learning has been previously used in the past in order to analyze Li-DAR images to detect insects, but often suffers from pitfalls such as long training times and large computational power requirements. In an attempt to offer an alternative that takes little to no training on the data and much less computational power, this paper looks at the use of changepoint detection algorithms to analyze LiDAR images containing insects. By analyzing the rows or columns of a LiDAR image, the algorithms should be able to detect abrupt changes in the image that would represent the insects. While not as accurate, the changepoint detection algorithms give comparable results to a machine learning algorithm tested on the same dataset without the need for supervised training. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently, social networks, where people can express their opinion through content and comments, are fast developing and affect various areas of daily life;Particularly, some research on YouTube travel channels found that almost tourists and audiences leave comments about their attitudes to that place. Thus, mining the emotional recognition of comments through artificial intelligence can bring knowledge about the tourists’ general view. This article analyzes the relationship(s) between social media use and its effect on community-based tourism in Thailand using the Social Media Sensing framework (S-Sense) as sentiment analysis and the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) methods to analyze the text comments. This research collected 51,280 comments on 114 Youtube Videos, which are tourist attractions in various provinces in Thailand. The approach categorizes attractions based on sentiment analysis of 60% or more, including restaurants, markets, historical sites, temples, or natural attractions. The results show that 67.51% of the 19,391 clean-processed comments were satisfied with those attraction places. Therefore S-Sense and BiLSTM models can be sufficient to analyze the attitude of comments about attraction places with from 43 to remain 33 keywords of 1,603 comments. Furthermore, the offered sentiment analysis method has higher precision, recall, and F1 scores. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Our research demonstrates a discrete speech system that empowers those afflicted with speech impairments to convey ideas by internally articulating words without producing audible sound. This method harnesses the minimal movements involved in articulation, making it less arduous than conventional vocalization, especially for individuals facing communication challenges. Silent Speech Interfaces (SSIs) form the foundation of our research, enabling the decoding of neuromuscular signals associated with internal speech articulation to facilitate non-invasive and effective communication for individuals with speech impairments. This research entails the utilization of a multi-electrode configuration to capture subtle, low-voltage electrical signals positioned on the surface area of the subject’s neck. These signals emerge as a consequence of neural activation within the speech articulator muscles, signifying the internal articulation of words within the oral cavity, accompanied by minimal physical movement. Subsequent to signal acquisition, a comprehensive analysis of the data is conducted using a biosensing board (Cyton), facilitated by the implementation of the OpenBCI GUI interface and visualization via Python plotting tools.

To improve e-government services released by Communication and Information technology Office of Samarinda City, each system needs to be able to interoperate even when developed by different developers. Interoperation can be achieved by using one data source which is API (Application Programming Interface) for general data objects such as announcements. Given this condition, API built by using microservice can support further enhancement even if API is developed by developers who use different programming languages. The result shows that microservice API can be used to interoperate in relaying data between e-government services and can be developed using more than one programming language and base codes. Further development of this API can be done by adding more data objects, using AWS Cognito as authorization management, adding AWS Elasticsearch to load and filter data, and by showing data objects in real-time on the front end. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
