Brain strokes are a global health concern, demanding effective predictive models to mitigate risks and enhance preventive interventions. Timely identification of individuals at risk is pivotal, and machine learning emerges as a promising avenue for accurate stroke prediction, potentially transforming patient care. This study introduces a comprehensive approach utilizing machine learning, addressing challenges like missing data and class imbalance through Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) for data synthesis and balancing. The custom Artificial Neural Network (ANN) tailored to brain stroke prediction achieves outstanding performance with a 99.9% accuracy. Going beyond theoretical boundaries, the research translates into practical implementation through a web-based platform for real-world stroke prediction. This platform seamlessly integrates the high-performing model, providing a user-friendly interface for individuals to assess their stroke risks. Notably, the custom ANN achieves a remarkable 95.11% accuracy even without accounting for missing data or data imbalance, underscoring its robustness in practical healthcare applications. In amalgamating advanced machine learning methodologies with practical solutions, this work significantly contributes to medical research and offers a tangible preemptive healthcare solution.

Hybrid Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (HRISs) constitute a new paradigm of truly smart metasurfaces with the additional features of signal reception and processing, which have been primarily considered for channel estimation and self-reconfiguration. In this paper, leveraging the simultaneous tunable reflection and signal absorption functionality of HRIS elements, we present a novel framework for the joint design of transmit beamforming and the HRIS parameters with the goal to maximize downlink communications, while simultaneously illuminating an area of interest for guaranteed localization coverage performance. Our simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and showcase the interplay of the various system parameters on the achievable Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) performance.

Sarcasm is a form of sentiment characterized by the use of words that express the opposite of what is meant. Sarcasm detection has applications in multiple domains ranging from sentiment analysis in product reviews to user feedback, and online forums. Sarcasm detection is important to understand user opinions and intentions in areas such as sentiment-based classification and opinion mining. This can result in better product development and customer service. Sarcasm detection can be a challenging task because sarcastic sentences may use positive expressions to convey negative meanings or may use negative sentences to convey positive meanings. Also, sarcastic sentences form a very small component of the entire communication. The increasing use of sarcasm in various social media such as Twitter, Reddit, Amazon product reviews, etc. has highlighted the importance of detecting and understanding sarcasm in various contexts. Sarcasm detection is a challenging problem for NLP systems that often rely on statistical models for performing sentiment analysis. In this research, the focus is on the use of a textual entailment approach for detecting sarcasm. Textual entailment is a natural language inference task that involves determining whether one text (hypothesis) can be derived from another text (premise). The underlying assumption behind this approach is that - if there is a contradiction between the premise and hypothesis, we can say that the hypothesis is sarcastic. To test our approach, an annotated corpus of 3000 product reviews was developed methodically from the Amazon Reviews dataset and tested using the textual entailment approach. The proposed approach achieved an F1 score of 0.76 on this dataset. The result is better than the baseline considered which is the BERT binary classifier which gives an F1 score of 0.48 on the same dataset.

We refer to joint action as any social interaction where two or more people coordinate their actions in space and time to bring about a change in the environment. We are constantly involved in joint actions in our daily life - lifting a piece of furniture, playing team sport, and during a rehabilitation session. Here, we aim at characterizing emergent coordination in pairs of participants mechanically coupled through a virtual elastic band while moving the hand through multiple via-points. We assessed the level of coordination in terms of temporal synchronization and trajectory similarity metrics. Overall, we found that participants changed their behaviour when mechani-cally coupled toward coordination, both in space and time, compared to their solo performances. However, coordination rapidly disappeared when the mechanical coupling was removed. These results provide insights into the understanding of the mecha-nisms underlying the development of joint coordination while haptically connected.
