Retrieving similar trajectories from a large trajectory dataset is important for a variety of applications, like transportation planning and mobility analysis. Unlike previous works based on fine-grained GPS trajectories, this paper investigates the feasibility of identifying similar trajectories from cellular data observed by mobile infrastructure, which provide more comprehensive coverage. To handle the large localization errors and low sample rates of cellular data, we develop a holistic system, cellSim, which seamlessly integrates map matching and similar trajectory search. A set of map matching techniques are proposed to transform cell tower sequences into moving trajectories on a road map by considering the unique features of cellular data, like the dynamic density of cell towers and bidirectional roads. To further improve the accuracy of similarity search, map matching outputs M trajectory candidates of different confidence, and a new similarity measure scheme is developed to process the map matching results. Meanwhile, M is dynamically adapted to maintain a low false positive rate of the similarity search, and two pruning schemes are proposed to minimize the computation overhead. Extensive experiments on a dataset of 3,186,000 mobile users and real-world trajectories of 1701 km reveal that cellSim provides high accuracy (precision 62.4% and recall of 89.8%). Graphical passwords (GPWs) are in many areas of the current world, in which the two-dimensional code has been applied successfully nowadays. Topological graphic passwords (Topsnut-gpws) are a new type of cryptography, and they differ from the existing GPWs. A Topsnut-gpw consists of two parts: one is a topological structure (graph), and one is a set of discrete elements (a graph labelling, or coloring), the topological structure connects these discrete elements together to form an interesting "story". It is not easy to remember passwords made up of longer bytes for many Chinese people. Chinese characters are naturally topological structures and have very high information density, especially, Chinese couplets form natively public keys and private keys in authentication. Our idea is to transform Chinese characters into computer and electronic equipments with touch screen by speaking, writing and keyboard for forming Hanzi-gpws (one type of Topsnut-gpws). We will translate Chinese characters into graphs (Hanzi-graphs), and apply mathematical techniques (graph labellings) to construct Hanzi-gpws, and next using Hanzi-gpws produces text-based passwords (TB-paws) with longer bytes as desired. We will explore a new topic of encrypting networks by means of algebraic groups, called graphic groups (Ablian additive finite group), and construct several kinds of self-similar Hanzi-networks, as well as some approaches for the encryption of networks, an important topic of researching information security. The stroke order of writing Chinese characters motivates us to study directed Hanzi-gpws based on directed graphs. We will introduce flawed graph labellings on disconnected Hanzi-graphs such that each Hanzi-gpw with a flawed graph labelling can form a set of connected Topsnut-gpws, like a group. We present a numerical method for solving the separability problem of Gaussian quantum states in continuous-variable quantum systems. We show that the separability problem can be cast as an equivalent problem of determining the feasibility of a set of linear matrix inequalities. Thus, it can be efficiently solved using existent numerical solvers. We apply this method to the identification of bound entangled Gaussian states. We show that the proposed method can be used to identify bound entangled Gaussian states that could be simple enough to be producible in quantum optics. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Cost-optimal model predictive scheduling of home appliances

A novel heuristic model-based optimal scheduling algorithm is proposed in this paper to operate heating and cooling type home appliances connected to smart grids where the price of the electrical energy is known in advance and temperature constraints are present. The properties and the use of the proposed algorithm are shown using a simple refrigerator model. The accuracy and the computational properties of the proposed method are compared to the schedule generated by the MPT toolbox. The algorithm works well with a relatively short prediction horizon using a fraction of the computing time needed for the MPT-based method. The robustness of the algorithm is also investigated with respect to the load of the refrigerator. It is shown that the designed schedule with an empty refrigerator is always suitable, yet not optimal, for any loaded case. © 2017

Numerical modelling of non-equilibrium condensation of carbon dioxide (CO2) in a converging-diverging nozzle

The condensing flow model is developed to predict the non-equilibrium condensation of CO2 in a converging-diverging nozzle using computational fluid dynamics modelling, which is expected to contribute to the carbon capture and storage. The numerical result shows that the nucleation process of CO2 occurs in the downstream of the nozzle throat where the extremely non-equilibrium state is reached, which generates the maximum value of the nucleation rate of approximately 2.5 x 1018 m−3 s−1. The excessive nucleation induces the growth of the condensed droplet and the liquid fraction increase in the diverging part of the supersonic nozzle with achieving 8% of the total mass at the nozzle exit.

Considering the time-varying scaling function matrix and system disturbances, a new sliding mode control strategy is proposed to realize modified function projective synchronization(MFPS) of two different fractional-order hyperchaotic systems, meanwhile improve the control robustness of synchronization system. From the MFPS error equations, combining a proper fractional-order exponential reaching raw, an active controller for MFPS is derived out via sliding mode control technology. By mean of the stability theorem, the asymptotic stability of synchronization error system is proved. Simulation results of the MFPS between fractional-order hyperchaotic Lorenz system and Chen system demonstrate the validity of the presented method.

Action recognition using vague division DMMs

This study presents a novel human action recognition method based on the sequences of depth maps, which provide additional body shape and motion information for action recognition. First, the authors divide each depth sequence into a number of sub-sequences. All these sub-sequences are of uniform length. By controlling vague boundary (VB), they construct a VB-sequence which consists of an original subsequence and its adjacent sequences. Then, each depth frame in a VB-sequence is projected onto three orthogonal Cartesian planes, and the absolute value of the difference between two consecutive projected maps is accumulated to form a depth motion map (DMM) to describe the dynamic feature of a VB-sequence. Finally, they concatenate the DMMs of all the VB-sequences in one video sequence to describe an action. Collectively, they call them VB division of depth model. For classification, they apply robust probabilistic collaborative representation classification. The recognition results applied to the MSR Action Pairs, MSR Gesture 3D, MSR Action3D, and UTD-MHAD datasets indicate superior performance of their method over most existing methods.

A continuous-time formulation for refinery production scheduling problems involving operational transitions in mode switching

In the refinery scheduling, operational transitions in mode switching are of great significance to formulate dynamic nature of production and obtain efficient schedules. The discrete-time formulation meets two main challenges in modeling: discrete approximation of time and large size of mixed-integer linear problem(MILP).In this article, a continuous-time refinery scheduling model, which involves transitions of mode switching, is presented due to these challenges. To reduce the difficulty in solving large scale MILPs resulting from the sequencing constraints, the global event-based formulation is chosen. Both transition constraints and production transitions are introduced and the numbers of key variables and constraints in both of the discrete-time and continuous-time formulations are analyzed and compared. Three cases with different lengths of time horizons and different numbers of orders are studied to show the efficiency of the proposed model.

For understanding dynamical phenomena Barabási and Albert shown a process that has been a useful mathematical method, and was changed in various forms and applied in researching of scale-free networks. We focus on dynamic differential equations like that by Barabási and Albert, and construct network models by the typical and generalized dynamic differential equations. Analysis of degree distribution and further problems on our models are given.
