This paper discusses the optimization of the H.264/AVC video encoder in the context of a modified software implementation on a Texas Instruments TMS320DM642 digital signal processor. Several algorithmic optimizations are proposed to improve time critical parts of the codec like the quantization step and the pixel interpolation. The algorithms proposed in this paper invoke the enhanced direct memory access (EDMA) controller, intrinsics and look-up tables to accelerate the encoding and do not affect the image peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) or compression performance. The computational acceleration gain of these algorithms are the foundation of our real time 30 CIF frames/second baseline implementation.

In the last years several drafts, recommendations and concepts for a graphical notation for Topic Maps have been published, but till today no graphical notation is generally approved and used in the Topic Maps community. In this paper we present GTMalpha as a conceptual new notation for a graphical representation of Topic Maps. Our objective is, to provide a practical usable notation, which allows a complete, consistent as well as easy to use graphical representation of any given topic map draft. GTMalpha provides a domain as well as a subject centric view and most important it considers the unique characteristics of the Topic Maps paradigm. This paper serves as a user oriented GTMalpha manual for ontology designers, domain experts as well as users.

This paper proposes a collaborative experience-based travel recommendation service for Hakka culture. This service utilizes mobile devices as platform to share and purify the user's knowledge of Hakka culture. By applying TF-IDF conversion on tags that were extracted from users' experience and past knowledge, in this paper we argue that a better recommendation service can be provided compared to the traditional frequency based service. Possible AI approach for utilizing the TF-IDF data is also proposed to improve the service level by using online adaptive clustering algorithm without increasing the resource requirements.

Topology control is one of the most elementary topics in wireless sensor networks. Typically, most of the research only considered the bidirectional communication and symmetric weighted communication model, while the real wireless world contains not only bidirectional but also unidirectional communication links and asymmetric weighted communication model. In this paper, we present two heuristics for the minimum power topology control problem on general model, i.e., given a set of sensors in the Euclidean plane and a transmission power threshold for each directed pair of sensors, to find a power assignment for each sensor to achieve a strong connectivity with minimum total transmission power. Extensive results in simulation evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms. Copyright 2008 ACM.

Log-Polar transform is mentioned as one of the models of the central-fovea visual sensor in a creature sight. Up to now, in the field of image recognition, Log-Polar transform is known widely and is especially used well in recognition of face images. However, since it is the recognition method only to a scaling and a rotation, it mainly remains in application in a 2D space. In this paper, a new Log-Polar transform algorithm which can detect even affine transform parameters is proposed, and this algorithm is expand so that perspective transform invariant can be detected.
