Edge computing, an advanced extension of cloud computing, provides superior computational capabilities and lowlatency processing at the network edge, facilitating its availability for real-time data analysis in resource-limited settings. When applied to the analysis of teaching methodologies, edge computing enables the seamless integration of vocal and physical cues, facilitating collaborative, dynamic, and real-time evaluations of teaching quality. However, the inherent complexity of human perception and multimodal interactions impose great challenges to the analysis of these aspects in Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). This paper introduces an innovative mathematical model and a measurement index specifically designed to assess changes in voice-body coordination over time. To achieve this, we propose a cloud-enabled enhanced Bi-Linear Attention Network incorporating entropy and Fourier transforms (BAN-E-FT), which leverages both temporal and frequencydomain features. Specifically, by harnessing the computational and storage capabilities of edge computing, BAN-E-FT facilitates distributed training, expedites large-scale data processing, and enhances model scalability, where entropy measures and Fourier transforms capture modality dynamics, enhancing BAN's fusion capabilities. Moreover, a conditional domain adversarial network is embedded to address regional teaching variations, improving model generalizability. We also verify the robustness of BAN-EFT with accuracy and convergence through convex optimization analysis. Experiments on the eNTERFACE'05 dataset demonstrate 81% accuracy in assessing teaching adaptability, while real-world test at Guizhou University confirms 78% accuracy when using BAN-E-FT, matching human expert assessments. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and implementation of an automated assignment management system utilizing a bot interface. The system’ s primary objective is to streamline the process of collecting and tracking student assignments, ensuring timely updates to a central database, and facilitating communication between students and teachers. The bot employs email inbox parsing techniques to identify incoming assignment submissions, extracting relevant data such as student names, assignment details, and submission timestamps. Upon receiving a submission, the bot updates an Excel database with the pertinent information, maintaining an organized record of completed ***, the system incorporates a notification feature to promptly alert students who have not yet submitted their assignments by the deadline. Leveraging email integration, the bot sends personalized notifications reminding students of impending deadlines and urging them to submit their work promptly. Additionally, the bot generates a list of incomplete assignments and forwards it to the respective teacher, providing a consolidated overview of students who require *** automating the assignment management process, this system reduces manual intervention, minimizes administrative burden, and enhances efficiency in monitoring student progress. Autonomous driving is a highly anticipated approach toward eliminating roadway fatalities. At the same time, the bar for safety is both high and costly to verify. This work considers the role of remotely-located human operators supervising a fleet of autonomous vehicles (AVs) for safety. Such a ‘scalable supervision’ concept was previously proposed to bridge the gap between still-maturing autonomy technology and the pressure to begin commercial offerings of autonomous driving. The present article proposes DISCES, a framework for data-Informed Safety-Critical Event Simulation, to investigate the practicality of this concept from a dynamic network loading standpoint. With a focus on the safety-critical context of AVs merging into mixed-autonomy traffic, vehicular arrival processes at 1,097 highway merge points are modeled using microscopic traffic reconstruction with historical data from interstates across three California counties. Combined with a queuing theoretic model, these results characterize the dynamic supervision requirements and thereby scalability of the teleoperation approach. Across all scenarios we find reductions in operator requirements greater than 99% as compared to in-vehicle supervisors for the time period analyzed. The work also demonstrates two methods for reducing these empirical supervision requirements: (i) the use of cooperative connected AVs — which are shown to produce an average 3.67 orders-of-magnitude system reliability improvement across the scenarios studied — and (ii) aggregation across larger regions.

In recent years, the demand for facial expression recognition applications has increased rapidly, and its research has received extensive attention from researchers. However, the current recognition methods based on deep learning ignore the idea of multiple head attention and semantic consistency, resulting in the model only paying attention to the local area of the feature map. In addition, the model's inconsistent attention to the images before and after the flip, resulting the poor robustness, poor interpretation, and other shortcomings in the model. To address the above problems, we propose an Affinity Separation Loss (ASLoss), which improves the separability of samples through clustering. Moreover, a Separate Multi-head Attention block (SMA), and a Zonal Loss (ZLoss) are also designed to decentralize the model's attention. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed MACNet method achieves competitive recognition performance on two public datasets RAF-DB and FERPlus. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

The rapid growth of edge computing calls for fine-tuned deep neural network (DNN) deployment that emphasizes energy-efficient implementation, due to the resource constraints of edge devices. Traditional Federated Learning-based Neural Architecture Search (FL-based NAS) has been instrumental in the complexities of this deployment, particularly in addressing constraints posed by device heterogeneity, limited resources, and privacy preservation. However, it is hindered by issues such as suboptimal aggregation of homogeneous neural blocks, significant knowledge waste in disregarding heterogeneous neural blocks, and excessive communication energy consumption. This paper introduces F 2 NAS in green edge computing, a novel energy-efficient approach that addresses these limitations by ensuring flexible and energy-efficient model design and training for edge devices. Firstly, F 2 NAS introduces an innovative aggregation strategy that enhances the integration of homogeneous neural blocks by using inter-block distances to optimize weight allocation. Further, it employs a unique parameter extraction technique that recaptures valuable insights from previously overlooked heterogeneous neural blocks. Finally, F 2 NAS meticulously calibrates communication energy consumption by balancing loss function and model interaction, setting and refining an upper limit for model communication. Experimental results reveal F 2 NAS enhances model accuracy by 2.8% to 4.7%, simultaneously reducing the energy consumption by nearly 50% through optimizing the communication cost.

The area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia increased by 7% from 14 million ha in 2017 to 15 million ha in 2021. The vast land requires the support of effective and efficient management techniques to maintain sustainable productivity. The high-performance computing technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), Big data, Artificial Intelligence, spatial modeling, and drones are the answers to these needs. This study aims to design an application that can obtain plantation image data and analyze the calculation of the number of oil palm trees. The image of oil palm plantations is obtained from processing photo data from drones through a mosaic and composite process. This study also employed Scrum and UML as a system model development method. The image of the oil palm plantation area is used to build a tree counting model using the Viola-Jones algorithm. The oil palm tree count information generated by this system can then be used by management for fertilizing, harvesting, and monitoring the condition of oil palm trees. © 2022 IEEE.

Nowadays, due to the increase of technological development in smart devices, more computational capabilities are needed with better performance. The maximization of the cloud computing resources used in mobile networks and Internet of Things makes good results. The data processing along with delay in the communication network will be easily handled by edge computing technology. The edge server brought as much as close to the end devices to avoid the frequent cloud access. In edge servers, the processing of the computational task is time consuming, which causes latency. The inference of deep learning along with reinforcement models makes the better resource allocation and task scheduling for complex systems. In this work, deep reinforcement models like Q learning, Double Q learning, Deep Q network, Double Deep Q learning has been compared. The developed Deep Reinforcement learning model has been deployed in the edge-based system. As a result, it is inferred that Double Deep Q learning is having the ability to make better decisions in resource allocation by maximizing the gains and rewards. The simulation result shows that Double Deep Q learning performs better with decreased latency and increases the performance of the edge systems.

In this study, we explore the efficacy of using a graph-based intrusion detection system (GBIDS) for Controller Area Network (CAN) bus security with minimal training data. Traditional machine learning models often require extensive data for training, typically around 70%, to achieve high accuracy and reliability. However, our approach demonstrates that even with significantly reduced training data—specifically, using just 30% of the available 70% of data (21% of total data)—we can maintain high levels of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. This minimal data training is facilitated by on-the-fly training capabilities akin to edge computing, allowing for real-time adaptation and learning. Our results indicate that it is not always necessary to rely on the conventional 70% training data benchmark to ensure robust CAN bus security. By leveraging advanced graph-based algorithms and edge computing techniques, we achieve efficient and effective intrusion detection with reduced data requirements, thus offering a promising solution for real-time CAN bus security in resource-constrained environments.

Echo of Neighbors: Privacy Amplification for Personalized Private Federated Learning with Shuffle Model

Federated Learning, as a popular paradigm for collaborative training, is vulnerable against privacy attacks. Different privacy levels regarding users’ attitudes need to be satisfied locally, while a strict privacy guarantee for the global model is also required centrally. Personalized Local Differential Privacy (PLDP) is suitable for preserving users’ varying local privacy, yet only provides a central privacy guarantee equivalent to the worst-case local privacy level. Thus, achieving strong central privacy as well as personalized local privacy with a utility-promising model is a challenging problem. In this work, a general framework (APES) is built up to strengthen model privacy under personalized local privacy by leveraging the privacy amplification effect of the shuffle model. To tighten the privacy bound, we quantify the heterogeneous contributions to the central privacy user by user. The contributions are characterized by the ability of generating "echos" from the perturbation of each user, which is carefully measured by proposed methods Neighbor Divergence and Clip-Laplace Mechanism. Furthermore, we propose a refined framework (S-APES) with the post-sparsification technique to reduce privacy loss in high-dimension scenarios. To the best of our knowledge, the impact of shuffling on personalized local privacy is considered for the first time. We provide a strong privacy amplification effect, and the bound is tighter than the baseline result based on existing methods for uniform local privacy. We investigate the phenomenon of norm inconsistency: where LLMs apply different norms in similar situations. Specifically, we focus on the high-risk application of deciding whether to call the police in Amazon Ring home surveillance videos. We evaluate the decisions of three state-of-the-art LLMs – GPT-4, Gemini 1.0, and Claude 3 Sonnet – in relation to the activities portrayed in the videos, the subjects’ skin-tone and gender, and the characteristics of the neighborhoods where the videos were recorded. Our analysis reveals significant norm inconsistencies: (1) a discordance between the recommendation to call the police and the actual presence of criminal activity, and (2) biases influenced by the racial demographics of the neighborhoods. These results highlight the arbitrariness of model decisions in the surveillance context and the limitations of current bias detection and mitigation strategies in normative decision-making. © 2024, CC BY.
