Accurate sound localization in a reverberation environment is essential for human auditory perception. Recently, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been utilized to model the binaural human auditory pathway. However, CNN shows barriers in capturing the global acoustic features. To address this issue, we propose a novel end-to-end Binaural Audio Spectrogram Transformer (BAST) model to predict the sound azimuth in both anechoic and reverberation environments. Two modes of implementation, i.e. BAST-SP and BAST-NSP corresponding to BAST model with shared and non-shared parameters respectively, are explored. Our model with subtraction interaural integration and hybrid loss achieves an angular distance of 1.29 degrees and a Mean Square Error of 1e-3 at all azimuths, significantly surpassing CNN based model. The exploratory analysis of the BAST’s performance on the left-right hemifields and anechoic and reverberation environments shows its generalization ability as well as the feasibility of binaural Transformers in sound localization. Furthermore, the analysis of the attention maps is provided to give additional insights on the interpretation of the localization process in a natural reverberant environment. © 2022, CC BY-SA.

With the increasing emphasis on data privacy, federated learning (FL) networks show great potential through distributed training without directly sharing the raw data. However, the coverage of FL terrestrial servers is usually limited. Therefore, we propose leveraging the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a mobile flying server to further improve the wireless coverage and training efficiency of FL. Nevertheless, frequent exchanges of model parameters in UAV-assisted FL can result in serious security risks. In order to achieve this, we propose a covert FL scheme assisted by the UAV, which can protect the transmission key features of local models from being detected by wardens. Furthermore, we discuss the FL network and covert communications, as well as the exceptional features of UAV-assisted covert FL. Finally, we present two case studies, one of which focuses on minimising the network latency, while the other concentrates on reducing the energy consumption of covert FL. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed schemes in addressing future challenges. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

An Incentive Mechanism for Privacy Preserved data Trading with Verifiable data Disturbance

To motivate data owners’ (DOs’) trading willingness, the existing incentive mechanisms allow DOs to independently disturb data following data consumer’s (DC’s) availability requirement. However, they cannot motivate DOs’ honest disturbance, which is attributed to DOs’ independent disturbance without any supervision. Thus, we implement an incentive mechanism for privacy preserved data trading with verifiable data disturbance where an honest-but-curious disturbance generator (DG) is additionally introduced to supervise DOs’ local disturbance and assist disturbance verification between DOs and DC. Specifically, DG generates the disturbance strategies and secretly distributes to DOs following private information retrieval, guaranteeing DOs’s local disturbance’s privacy and verifiability with our proposed three-level verification algorithm. Subsequently, we model the trading as a game and disturbance verification results determine the compensation and punishment for trading bilateral utilities following Nash Equilibrium where DOs honestly disturb data. Theoretical analysis shows that DOs are motivated to honestly disturb data and their raw data privacy is preserved. Extensive experiments using the real-world dataset demonstrate that the deviating DOs in our scheme can be verified with a probability of more than 90% and the statistical result accuracy can be improved by more than 80% compared with the existing works. © 2004-2012 IEEE. Studies have shown that learning personal stories could help provide individualized eldercare services. However, personal stories are often disordered because of the scattered collection, including informal interviews or daily interactions, which brings difficulties in acquiring valuable information quickly. One solution to this problem is to extract events from personal stories and automatically organize them in chronological order. Events extracted by current methods from social media or news corpus are mainly organized in a linear structure. These works usually focus on the event time and ignore the consistency of event contents when organizing events. This paper aims to organize events into a tree structure based on an event network, with stem nodes representing key event topics and branch nodes representing detailed events. Social workers or caregivers can clarify the life experience of the older adults quickly through the event tree and have a preliminary understanding of them. The experiments show that the event tree generated by our method has a better performance in consistency than current event organization methods. A survey study shows that our method achieves the highest logical coherence for the event tree branches compared with other algorithms. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Optimal Multitask Linear Regression and Contextual Bandits under Sparse Heterogeneity

Large and complex datasets are often collected from several, possibly heterogeneous sources. Multitask learning methods improve efficiency by leveraging commonalities across datasets while accounting for possible differences among them. Here, we study multitask linear regression and contextual bandits under sparse heterogeneity, where the source/task-associated parameters are equal to a global parameter plus a sparse task-specific term. We propose a novel two-stage estimator called MOLAR that leverages this structure by first constructing a covariate-wise weighted median of the task-wise linear regression estimates and then shrinking the task-wise estimates towards the weighted median. Compared to task-wise least squares estimates, MOLAR improves the dependence of the estimation error on the data dimension. Extensions of MOLAR to generalized linear models and constructing confidence intervals are discussed in the paper. We then apply MOLAR to develop methods for sparsely heterogeneous multitask contextual bandits, obtaining improved regret guarantees over single-task bandit methods. We further show that our methods are minimax optimal by providing a number of lower bounds. Finally, we support the efficiency of our methods by performing experiments on both synthetic data and the PISA dataset on student educational outcomes from heterogeneous countries. Eating food is important for not only physical health but also, mental health. meals are essential for maintaining and improving health moreover right amount of nutrients also essential for preventing and treating disease. The sufficient meal provides spiritual enrichment and contributes to communication. However, planning a satisfying menu may be a burden when time is limited. In this research, we formulate menu creation as a combinatorial multiobjective optimization and develop an automatic menu creation support system incorporating User eXperience design.

Correctly identifying an individual's social context from passively worn sensors holds promise for delivering justin-time adaptive interventions (JITAIs) to treat social anxiety. In this study, we present results using passively collected data from a within-subjects experiment that assessed physiological responses across different social contexts (i.e, alone vs. with others), social phases (i.e., pre- and post-interaction vs. during an interaction), social interaction sizes (i.e., dyadic vs. group interactions), and levels of social threat (i.e., implicit vs. explicit social evaluation). Participants in the study (N = 46) reported moderate to severe social anxiety symptoms as assessed by the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (≥34 out of 80). Univariate paired difference tests, multivariate random forest models, and cluster analyses were used to explore physiological response patterns across different social and non-social contexts. Our results suggest that social context is more reliably distinguishable than social phase, group size, or level of social threat, and that there is considerable variability in physiological response patterns even among distinguishable contexts. Implications for real-world context detection and future deployment of JITAIs are discussed. © 2025 IEEE.

A surveillance system detects emergency vehicles stuck in traffic. This system helps manage traffic because the number of vehicles on the road has been increasing daily for years, causing congestion. This project implements Deep ConvNet2D (Convolutional Network 2D) and Computer Vision emergency vehicle recognition. We propose a CNN-based real-time image processing model for emergency vehicle detection. The signal control unit can be set to terminate the round robin sequence when an emergency vehicle is detected. A CNN trained on Indian ambulance images solves the problem. Tensor Flow, a Python library, was used for training. Our method detects and classifies emergency cars well. Existing systems use ANN algorithm, which is inaccurate and inefficient. The system uses Deep ConvNet2D Algorithm. The proposed real-time system is accurate. The proposed system loads and executes faster than the existing system. The system is efficient, scalable, and enhanced for complex use cases.

With the prevalence of online review websites, large-scale data promote the necessity of focused analysis. This task aims to capture the information that is highly relevant to a specific aspect. However, the broad scope of the aspects of the various products makes this task overarching but challenging. A commonly used solution is to modify the topic models with additional information to capture the features for a specific aspect (referred to as a targeted aspect). However, the existing topic models, either perform the full analysis to capture features as many as possible or estimate the similarity to capture features as coherent as possible, overlook the fine-grained semantic relations between the features, resulting in the captured features coarse and confusing. In this paper, we propose a novel Hierarchical Features-based Topic Model (HFTM) to extract targeted aspects from online reviews, then to capture the aspect-specific features. Specifically, our model can not only capture the direct features posing target-to-feature semantics but also capture the latent features posing feature-to-feature semantics. The experiments conducted on real-world datasets demonstrate that HFTMl outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines in terms of both aspect extraction and document classification. © 2021 - IOS Press. With the widespread application of digital assets and the rapid development of blockchain technology, achieving secure and efficient transactions between different blockchain networks has become an urgent challenge. Existing cross-chain methods impose limitations, e.g., hash lock technology exhibits low scalability, side-chain technology is overly complex, and notary schemes pose centralization risks. In order to address these issues, we propose a cross-chain transaction solution based on proxy re-signature technology. To tackle the centralization concerns, we employ proxy re-signature technology to decentralize the authority of notaries among transaction participants, minimizing the potential for centralization at a low cost. We further present an extended scheme that can guarantee more requirements such as higher transaction amount and shorter transaction time. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the signature technologies used in the proposed solution and provide a systematic proof of our approach’s security.
