Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) system is vulnerable to spoofing attacks that can easily where attackers can easily pose as a legal entity of the network. A 'spoofing attack' refers to a type of cyber-attack when an attacker purposefully impersonates or masquerades as someone or something else to deceive the target or obtain unauthorized access to systems, information, or resources. In such attacks, the attacker alters their name, IP address, or other attributes to fool the victim into thinking they are engaging with a legitimate entity. Spoofing attacks can take place via a variety of channels, including, ARP and DNS spoofing. Therefore. Spoofing attacks can have serious consequences. We proposed a new approach based on three machine learning models LightGBM, Gradient Boost, and XGBoost to classify attacks on spoofing, we used Chi-square to select the best features to get the highest performance, and we demonstrated that the results using Chi-square achieved higher results than without Chi-square and improved the result with a rate three percent of accuracy. In terms of results, LightGBM outperformed other models by achieving 89%, 91 %, 87 %, and 89 % for accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-score, respectively. This shows the potential and efficiency of Chi-square to achieve the best performance by selecting the best features, thus providing a secure system and identifying cyber-attacks on systems. © 2023 IEEE.

AME4163: Principles of engineering Design is a design, build and test course offered at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, USA. Throughout the semester students are expected to reflect on authentic and immersive experiences and write Take-aways and Learning Statements. At the end of the semester each student submits a summative Semester Learning Essay. Between 2019–2021 we collected about 10,000 Take-aways and Learning Statements from the Semester Learning Essays of nearly 400 students. In this paper, we attempt to help instructors gain insight of what students have learned through these materials and thence improve the delivery of the course in the future. We analyze their Take-aways from summative Semester Learning Essays by using dictionary-based sentiment analysis to assess students' subjective feelings toward what they have learned. The results prove that we gain insight into their learning thereby providing instructors with evidence-based guidance on modifying the course from different perspectives. The method proposed is generalizable to courses that involve authentic immersive experiences.

The advent of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) marks a significant milestone in deep learning semantic segmentation tasks. In this study, an incremental learning model based on pseudo labels is proposed. The model generates bounding box prompts for SAM, enhancing the accuracy of glomeruli segmentation in renal pathology images. The model uses DenseNet-121 along with contrastive learning to enable self-supervised pre-training using mouse glomeruli images. Transfer learning is then conducted using labeled human renal pathology images to develop a binary classification model for glomeruli. Unlabeled images of human renal pathology are subsequently introduced for incremental learning. Class activation maps (CAMs) generated by the incremental learning model are post-processed to extract bounding rectangles for connected regions. These rectangles are then used as prompts for SAM segmentation. The proposed approach resulted in an average Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.825 in the glomeruli segmentation task. This result demonstrates the effectiveness of the incremental learning model and post-processing algorithms in improving SAM's segmentation accuracy for renal pathology.

Invertibility of Discrete-Time Linear systems with Sparse Inputs

One of the fundamental problems of interest for discrete-time linear systems is whether its input sequence may be recovered given its output sequence, a.k.a. the left inversion problem. Many conditions on the state space geometry, dynamics, and spectral structure of a system have been used to characterize the well-posedness of this problem, without assumptions on the inputs. However, certain structural assumptions, such as input sparsity, have been shown to translate to practical gains in the performance of inversion algorithms, surpassing classical guarantees. Establishing necessary and sufficient conditions for left invertibility of systems with sparse inputs is therefore a crucial step toward understanding the performance limits of system inversion under structured input assumptions. In this work, we provide the first necessary and sufficient characterizations of left invertibility for linear systems with sparse inputs, echoing classic characterizations for standard linear systems. The key insight in deriving these results is in establishing the existence of two novel geometric invariants unique to the sparse-input setting, the weakly unobservable and strongly reachable subspace arrangements. By means of a concrete example, we demonstrate the utility of these characterizations. Local causal discovery aims to learn and distinguish the direct causes and effects of a target variable from observed data. Existing constraint-based local causal discovery methods use AND or OR rules in constructing the local causal skeleton, but using either rule alone is prone to produce cascading errors in the learned local causal skeleton, and thus impacting the inference of local causal relationships. On the other hand, directly applying score-based global causal discovery methods to local causal discovery may randomly return incorrect results due to the existence of local equivalence classes. To address the above issues, we propose a Hybrid Local Causal Discovery algorithm, called HLCD. Specifically, HLCD initially utilizes a constraint-based approach combined with the OR rule to obtain a candidate skeleton and then employs a score-based method to eliminate redundant portions in the candidate skeleton. Furthermore, during the local causal orientation phase, HLCD distinguishes between V-structures and equivalence classes by comparing the local structure scores between the two, thereby avoiding orientation interference caused by local equivalence classes. We conducted extensive experiments with seven state-of-the-art competitors on 14 benchmark Bayesian network datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate that HLCD significantly outperforms existing local causal discovery algorithms. Although Split Federated Learning (SFL) effectively enables knowledge sharing among resource-constrained clients, it suffers from low training performance due to the neglect of data heterogeneity and catastrophic forgetting problems. To address these issues, we propose a novel SFL approach named MultiSFL, which adopts i) an effective multi-model aggregation mechanism to alleviate gradient divergence caused by heterogeneous data and ii) a novel knowledge replay strategy to deal with the catastrophic forgetting problem. MultiSFL adopts two servers (i.e., the fed server and main server) to maintain multiple branch models for local training and an aggregated master model for knowledge sharing among branch models. To mitigate catastrophic forgetting, the main server of MultiSFL selects multiple assistant devices for knowledge replay according to the training data distribution of each full branch model. Experimental results obtained from various non-IID and IID scenarios demonstrate that MultiSFL significantly outperforms conventional SFL methods by up to a 23.25% test accuracy improvement. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Part-of-speech tagging is the process of assigning words in a given text to appropriate parts-of speech in order to reduce the disambiguation which may arise depending on the contextual usage of the words. In this paper, the problem of word sense disambiguation in Azerbaijani language is addressed by applying part of speech tagging on two varying data corpora, misspelled, and edited (clean) text using 3 different machine learning algorithms: Hidden Markov Model, Long Short-Term Memory, and Conditional Random Fields. The comparative analysis on the outcomes of the mentioned algorithms and their accuracy scores were analysed in the paper. The misspelled dataset for the experiments is provided by Unibank from their chatbot dialogues while the clean textual data was retrieved from the books and newspapers in Azerbaijani. The experiments showed that the Bidirectional LSTM has the highest accuracy scores for both edited (98.2%) and noisy (96.2%) data corpora. Suggested models can be used in the application of algorithms focuses on part of speech tags and syntactic structure of Azerbaijani language which is an agglutinative language belonging to Turkic languages family, thus enabling the research to be further investigated in other agglutinative languages with similar grammatical structure. © 2022 ACM.

This paper introduces a model-agnostic approach designed to enhance uncertainty estimation in the predictive modeling of soil properties, a crucial factor for advancing pedometrics and the practice of digital soil mapping. For addressing the typical challenge of data scarcity in soil studies, we present an improved technique for uncertainty estimation. This method is based on the transformation of regression tasks into classification problems, which not only allows for the production of reliable uncertainty estimates but also enables the application of established machine learning algorithms with competitive performance that have not yet been utilized in pedometrics. Empirical results from datasets collected from two German agricultural fields showcase the practical application of the proposed methodology. Our results and findings suggest that the proposed approach has the potential to provide better uncertainty estimation than the models commonly used in pedometrics. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The escalating dependence on artificial intelligence (AI) in energy and electrical power dependability systems has garnered significant interest in both academic and industrial circles. This study provides a bibliometric examination of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the field of electrical dependability, covering the time frame from 2002 to 2023. The main aim of this study is to examine the patterns of publication, notable authors, institutions, and funding organizations that contribute to research in artificial intelligence for electrical dependability. A further objective of the endeavor is to chart the co-authorship networks, keyword frequencies, and citation trends in the field. Extraction of data from the Scopus database was carried out using an extensive search approach, and subsequently, network visualization was performed using VOSviewer. The findings indicated a substantial rise in research productivity throughout the last ten years, accompanied with a distinguishable expansion in joint research endeavors. China has established itself as the foremost nation in research on electrical reliability powered by artificial intelligence, with the United States and India following closely after. In addition, the National Natural Science Foundation of China was recognized as the most productive and influential funding institution. The thematic analysis revealed many prominent subjects in the sector, such as predictive maintenance, problem detection, and energy consumption optimization via artificial intelligence. The paper offers invaluable insights into the present research landscape and emphasizes developing trends, providing a clear plan for future research objectives in the fields of artificial intelligence and electrical dependability.
