These models not only have descriptive functions, but also allow solving problems of optimizing army control under given conditions, as well as calculating the most efficient composition of the army for the planned operation within a computer game.

This position paper summarizes the inputs of a group of experts from academia and industry presenting their view on chances and challenges of using ChatGPT within modeling and Simulation education. The experts also address the need to evaluate continuous education as well as education of faculty members to address scholastic challenges and opportunities while meeting the expectation of industry. Generally, the use of ChatGPT is encouraged, but it needs to be embedded into an updated curriculum with more emphasis on validity constraints, systems thinking, and ethics. © 2023 IEEE.

With the surge in emerging technologies such as Metaverse, spatial computing, and generative AI, the application of facial style transfer has gained a lot of interest from researchers as well as startups enthusiasts alike. StyleGAN methods have paved the way for transfer-learning strategies that could reduce the dependency on the huge volume of data that is available for the training process. However, StyleGAN methods have the tendency of overfitting that results in the introduction of artifacts in the facial images. Studies, such as DualStyleGAN, proposed the use of multipath networks but they require the networks to be trained for a specific style rather than generating a fusion of facial styles at once. In this paper, we propose a FusIon of STyles (FIST) network for facial images that leverages pre-trained multipath style transfer networks to eliminate the problem associated with lack of huge data volume in the training phase along with the fusion of multiple styles at the output. We leverage pre-trained styleGAN networks with an external style pass that use residual modulation block instead of a transform coding block. The method also preserves facial structure, identity, and details via the gated mapping unit introduced in this study. The aforementioned components enable us to train the network with very limited amount of data while generating high-quality stylized images. Our training process adapts curriculum learning strategy to perform efficient, flexible style and model fusion in the generative space. We perform extensive experiments to show the superiority of FISTNet in comparison to existing state-of-the-art methods. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

The integration of extended reality (XR) technologies in remote practical training offers immersive learning experiences through virtual simulations. In this paper, the first step to offer a new virtual living environment implementing a measurement laboratory is proposed. Differently from a pure simulative environment, the proposal goes further allowing the design of a real didactic experience by using real measurement instruments. The proposed XR-enabled measurement laboratory provides a blend of virtual and real-world environments, fostering practical skills and critical thinking abilities that can be acquired only with “first hand” experiences. Despite technical obstacles, and open didactical questions, XR presents opportunities for innovation and collaborative learning experiences. Enhancing interactivity through multiplayer and social engagement features, the proposed laboratory will foster a sense of community among learners and researchers.

Filter-decomposition-based group equivariant convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown promising stability and data efficiency for 3D image feature extraction. However, these networks, which rely on parameter sharing and discrete transformation groups, often underperform in modern deep neural network architectures for processing volumetric images, such as the common 3D medical images. To address these limitations, this paper presents an efficient non-parameter-sharing continuous 3D affine group equivariant neural network for volumetric images. This network uses an adaptive aggregation of Monte Carlo augmented spherical Fourier-Bessel filter bases to improve the efficiency and flexibility of 3D group equivariant CNNs for volumetric data. Unlike existing methods that focus only on angular orthogonality in filter bases, the introduced spherical Bessel Fourier filter base incorporates both angular and radial orthogonality to improve feature extraction. Experiments on four medical image segmentation datasets show that the proposed methods achieve better affine group equivariance and superior segmentation accuracy than existing 3D group equivariant convolutional neural network layers, significantly improving the training stability and data efficiency of conventional CNN layers (at 0.05 significance level). The Multiple travelling salesman problem (MTSP) is a typical computationally complex combinatorial optimization problem, which is an extension of the famous travelling salesman problem (TSP) classified as NP-Hard. The MTSP can be generalized to a wide variety of routing and scheduling problems. The paper proposes a novel metaheuristic called Elephant Herding Optimization (EHO) to solve the MTSP. The EHO algorithm is bio-inspired from the natural herding behavior of elephant groups, which has proved its efficiency in solving the classic TSP and continued optimization problems. So, to extend the application of this algorithm, The paper makes the attempt to show how the EHO algorithm can be applied to the MTSP by testing some random benchmark instances of TSPLIB. Seismic assessment of an urban environment is a time-consuming and complicated task that also requires considerable financial resources. In this paper, we suggest an approach to the seismic evaluation of urban buildings based on data mining methods. Regarding this topic, researches have been conducted on 163 typical objects with 19 different features including various types of buildings. The k-means method was used to create clusters of similar objects, it also allowed us to determine dependencies between data. More accurate clustering models were obtained using a hierarchical algorithm. The quality of the proposed methods was evaluated to ensure the reliability of the obtained results. © 2020 ACM.

The paper deals with the problem of modelling nonlinear waves propagation in thin liquid layers in the presence of weak sources at the bottom. It is established the conditions under which the model equation has the left-hand side bearing a resemblance to the Korteweg-de-Vries equation with slowly evolved parameters, and perturbed right-hand side. At the same time the specific conditions under which the appearance of solitary waves can be nevertheless possible have been defined. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
