Metaheuristic optimization algorithms present an effective method for solving several optimization problems from various types of applications and *** metaheuristics and evolutionary optimization algorithms have been emerged recently in the literature and gained widespread attention,such as particle swarm optimization(PSO),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),grey wolf optimization algorithm(GWO),genetic algorithm(GA),and gravitational search algorithm(GSA).According to the literature,no one metaheuristic optimization algorithm can handle all present optimization *** novel optimization methodologies are still *** Al-Biruni earth radius(BER)search optimization algorithm is proposed in this *** proposed algorithm was motivated by the behavior of swarm members in achieving their global *** search space around local solutions to be explored is determined by Al-Biruni earth radius calculation method.A comparative analysis with existing state-of-the-art optimization algorithms corroborated the findings of BER’s validation and testing against seven mathematical optimization *** results show that BER can both explore and avoid local *** has also been tested on an engineering design optimization *** results reveal that,in terms of performance and capability,BER outperforms the performance of state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms.

This paper expands the use of analogies in thermo-dynamics to explore concepts in the characterization of information systems. The focus is on systems of liquid-liquid equilibrium and how they are similar to information-systems integration. New ideas, such as metrics, are introduced for tractability and disjunction in information-systems integration. It describes the role of ontology and suggests directions for future research in this area. This paper is the third in a series of papers in the newly emerging and interdisciplinary field of "infodynamics." © 2005 IEEE.

The task of aircraft identification using their registration number is important as visual identification remains the only method of their identification in case of air traffic control systems or radar failure. In this paper, an analysis of known solutions was carried out and an aircraft identification system was developed using a pre-trained YOLO (You Only Look Once) deep convolutional neural network and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. The system consists of three modules: the M1 module is designed for the detection of region of interest-tail, the M2 module is designed for the detection of region of interest-registration number, the M3 module is designed for the classification of the registration number. 2309 aircraft images were used for training, 426 for validation and 408 for testing from the Fine-Grained Visual Classification of Aircraft (FGVC-Aircraft) dataset. Our results show that the mean average precision for the M1 and M2 YOLOv7 models on the test set were 0.92 and 0.85 respectively, and for the module M3 OCR technology the classification error was 0.2.

Sufficient reputable participants are critical to effective data collections and data disseminations in opportunistic cognitive networks. However, it is difficult to identify reputable or malicious participants in opportunistic networks. Cognitive network technology can be applied to the communication system of opportunistic networks to provide reputation-aware schemes of the participants. Furthermore, keeping participants enthusiasm for activities of networks is also important. In this work, we propose a Reputation-Based Participant Incentive Approach (RBPIA) to motivate reputable participants. RBPIA scores participants using reputation degree according to their sensing data and bid price respectively and encourage them to keep interested in the activities with rewards. Simulations are performed in different scenarios to evaluate efficiency of the approach. The results show that RBPIA can identify participant types well, and remarkably reduce the incentive cost. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

In the process industry, limit cycles are mostly induced by stiction-related nonlinearity in control valves, severely deteriorating control loop performance. Such problem highlights the importance of compensating for oscillations due to valve stiction. To this end, this work introduces an improved PI controller(IPIC) for stiction compensation, which retains the advantages of the traditional PI controller with fewer adjustment parameters. The enhancement involves nonlinear variation of the integral gain based on instantaneous error. Additionally, a differential evolution algorithm is utilized for controller *** to state-of-the-art methods in setpoint tracking, disturbance rejection, and robustness to parameter uncertainties, the proposed approach exhibits superior performance.

A traffic light control protocol is proposed, which builds compact platoons of vehicles to make efficient use of green times. It forms short platoons at multiple links and times traffic lights to concatenate these to form a single dense platoon, in which vehicles mostly passes many intersections without stopping. The protocol minimizes the number of times vehicles stop; by simulation, it roughly halves that of greenwave under near saturated demand.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). This paper presents an approach to Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) through software intelligent retrieval and reuse. OO development never has met the objectives for software reuse. Thus, a Uniform Modeling Language (UML) has arisen as a standard top-down way for describing component functions and properties. Components may be defined in any language, for any platform, and combined into frameworks. This can be accomplished using component models. Component interface standards should be developed to facilitate component reuse. Retrieved components need to be adapted (e.g., via Case-Based Reasoning) to specific contexts. This is more general than OO development. Knowledge-bases should evolve to guide the definition, generalization, specialization, and retrieval of components and frameworks. These intelligent systems will be constructed through a component-based methodology - completing the loop. The problem with a UML-based methodology is that it is not a full-spectrum coding method. Thus, a component bootstrap is advanced, which in conjunction with an intelligent repository, provides for extensible frameworks. © 2005 IEEE.
