The purpose of this paper is to develop a robot-nurse capable of assisting human health professionals in a COVID-19 isolation unit such that health care professionals may discontinue wearing the personal protective kit that they previously wore when dealing with patients at isolation units. The robot can perform most of the tasks carried out by human nurses in a hospital. It can take a patient's temperature without touching them, administer medicines at the appropriate time, assist in sanitizing the individual and their hands, and offer a section for sterilizing medical equipment. Capacitance Level Sensor (CLS) is used to measure liquid level in many of the process industries. The main objective of the work is to optimize a design of novel helical electrode of CLS, in order to enhance the sensitivity and reduce the time response of sensor. The main effecting parameters of the design are considered to be pitch and radius of inner electrode of CLS. These parameters are directly affected on sensor output and time response. If the pitch is considered to be zero, then the helical sensor acts as a cylindrical CLS exhibiting higher response time and higher capacitance output. And if the pitch is considered to be infinity (66 cm in our case) then helical CLS acts as parallel plate CLS exhibiting lower capacitance output and lower time response. Hence the pitch and radius of inner electrode are optimized using Taguchi optimization method. Results showed that pitch of 2.64 cm and 1.08 cm radius of inner electrode gives maximum capacitance output and lower time response as related to that of existing CLS. © 2021 IEEE.

In hard disk drive manufacturing, the servo tracks are written with the equipment of servo track writer. External vibrations during servo track writing process give rise to servo track writing error. The servo track writing error can cause some critical errors during data writing operation. This paper proposes two control schemes using an effective Finite Impulse Response (FIR) compensator to attenuate external vibrations based on optimization technique. The former aims to decrease the error in each frequency by minimizing the sensitivity transfer function from command/disturbance to error. It is constructed in a feedback control loop without any sensor to detect vibrations. The latter is also designed in the frequency domain with a slightly different objective function. Here the designed compensator is constructed in a feedforward scheme with a use of accelerometer to measure vibrations. Without a mathematical model of the system, the FIR compensator from the two structures can be practically designed by using the experimental data of the system. The more number of gains used in the compensator design, the better the performance. Weighting functions are applied to emphasize on the addressed frequencies where the vibrations usually dominate. © 2010 SICE.

Abstract: The influence of the type of active gas and the ratio of the concentration of the components of the CF4 + Ar, Cl2 + Ar, and HBr + Ar mixtures on the parameters of the plasma, steady-state concentrations of the active particles, and kinetics of reactive-ion etching of SiO2 is investigated. It is demonstrated that the rate of etching SiO2 decreases in the CF4–Cl2–HBr series and is characterized by nonmonotonic (with the maximum at 20–25% Ar) behaviour under the variation of the initial composition of the mixtures. It is found that the reasons for the nonmonotonicity for each of the mixtures are the increased effective probability of the interaction and decreased yield of etching due to the change in the physical parameters of the plasma and densities of the fluxes of the active particles. © 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

To cater to the ever-increasing needs of customers, industries have to give more importance toward maintenance of health of industrial process equipments through better monitoring system. Thus, fault detection and diagnosis techniques have a vital role in maintaining industrial process health. Stiction is one of the commonly occurring control valve faults in most of the flow process industries. In this paper, an attempt is made to synthesis the Choudhury’s stiction model to analyze the behavior of the control valve with stiction fault. Behavior of control valve is analyzed under different stages like linear, deadband, undershoot, overshoot and no offset conditions. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

This paper represents an emulation of fuzzy logic control schemes in autonomous parallel parking system in a backward maneuver. There are four infrared sensors sending distance data to microcontroller for generating an obstacle-free parking path. Two of them mounted on the front and rare wheels on the parking side are used as the inputs to the fuzzy rules to calculate a proper steering angle while backing. The other two attached to the front and rear ends serve for avoiding collision with other cars along the parking space. At the end of parking process, the vehicle will be in line with other parked cars and position in the middle of the free space. A construction of fuzzy rules is designed based upon a wall following process. The effectiveness of the controller design is demonstrated in the experimental results. © 2009 SICE.

The frequency variation of a power system depends on the relationship between power generation and consumption. Increase in loads, losses or inclusion of renewable energies will lead to inaccurate controllability of the network frequency, which is the result of consumption-generation imbalance. If this imbalance is high, damage and degradation of network performance, as well as trips of loads and generators is inevitable. In modern grids attention is given to the amount of power supplied to satisfy the loads and system losses and also for reserve services. The latter provides security and stability of the *** control is usually provided by generating units to regulate the generated power. In modern networks such as smart grids, the power reserve concepts are used via three different technologies, namely: Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR), Frequency Restoration Reserves (FRR) and Replacement Reserves (RR). In some countries such as Denmark and Norway, it is compulsory for FCR to be implemented in the network. The FCR is operating the reserves necessary for constant containment of frequency deviations from nominal value in order to constantly maintain the power balance in the whole synchronously interconnected system. Compared with traditional reserves, the FCR can deliver the same service plus the additional benefit of faster response speed in *** paper proposes a dynamic simulation model of an interconnected network to identify frequency responses based on current practice in power systems frequency control. The dynamic frequency response identification method is deployed in two steps: the first step is the representation of the dynamic models of the power system through the power equilibrium equation and in the second step, modelling the frequency control system in response to the frequency variations, which consider FCR technology. Toilet quality assurance is a crucial process in ensuring lavatories meet rigorous performance, durability, and hygiene standards. The current standard of Maximum Performance (MaP) testing faces challenges, leading researchers to explore innovative approaches such as sound source classification for quality assurance. This approach involves collecting a diverse dataset of lavatory sounds and extracting relevant acoustic features. Deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), are trained on these features to accurately classify sound sources. The trained models were evaluated and compared by considering metrics such as classification accuracy, computational complexity, and model parameters. This paper performs these tests and chooses the most effective model to enhance the quality assurance process for toilets. Incorporating sound source classification techniques has several benefits, including the optimization of testing processes, non-intrusive performance assessment, and efficient resource utilization through targeted testing and troubleshooting. By improving the standards of lavatory quality, this approach ensures enhanced performance, durability, and hygiene of lavatories. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents an operational approach for determining satellite attitude from carrier phase GPS (Global Positioning system) measurements. A conventional recursive least square (RLS) estimator was implemented without requiring spacecraft dynamics. The proposed approach can be applicable for general space missions, particularly for real-time operation onboard-spacecraft. The attitude angles and electrical path difference (line bias) between antenna chains caused an offset error in GPS observables, can be estimated. The implemented estimator was tested with a simulated data, and the flight data collected onboard a mini-satellite orbiting in low Earth orbit. © 2012 IEEE.

Islanding phenomenon is one of the major concerns in the distributed generator (DG) systems. Islanding occurs when one or more DGs supplied local loads without connecting to the grid utility. This unintentional condition must be detected with the minimum time possible to prevent the hazardous effects to a person worked in the system or equipment connected to the network. The two main methods of anti-islanding are passive and active methods. The passive methods are excellent in the speed of detection and power quality. However, the passive have relatively large non-detection zone (NDZ). On the other hands, the active methods have less relatively small NDZ and still provide a good speed of detection. This paper proposes an anti-islanding technique for multiple grid-connected inverters in photovoltaic (PV) system based on an active method. By injecting harmonic currents with the same or different harmonic orders and monitoring the change at the point of common coupling (PCC), the islanding condition can be diagnosed. Due to its excellent algorithm looking at specific frequencies, the Goertzel algorithm is employed in this paper to identify frequency components. Simulation results using PSIM software confirm the effectiveness to the technique in accordance with the requirements of the interconnection standards, IEEE Std. 1547 and IEEE Std. 929-2000. © 2012 IEEE.
