The article deals with the exact approach convenient for flight schedule creating offering regular airline transportation service. The proposed exact approach is based on linear mathematical model. Out of the specified expected demand linkset the model is designed to select particular subset maximum aircraft fleet utilization. The model results represent optimal connection network at defined time periods. The arithmetical experiments have been carried out on model examples.

This paper proposed a combined phase shift PWM and PFM controller of a high frequency three level single-phase half bridge neutral point clamp voltage source inverter (NPCVSI) induction heating application. In heating operation, output power and switching frequency of the inverter are controlled by digital controller to achieve maximum output power and maintain zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition. The microcontroller based digital controller, PI controller, is implemented in a 16-bit microcontroller.

Despite that omni-directional mobile robots have been employed popularly in several application areas, effort on optimal design of such mobile robots has been few in literature. Thus, this paper investigates the optimal design of omni-directional mobile robots. Particularly, optimal design parameters such as one or double offset distance of wheel mechanism and the wheel radius are identifed with respect to isotropic characteristic of mobile robots. In addition, the force transmission characteristics and actuator-sizing problem of mobile robots are investigated Analysis has been performed for three actuation sets. It is shown that the redundantly acruated mobile robot with three active caster wheels represents the best performance among them.

We combined a rotary machine with a reflecting optical sensor to built a machine that automatically calibrate ruler scales. The optical sensor is mounted on a linear motion rail along the ruler scales It identifies the marked lines on a metal ruler by detecting reflecting light intensity from the lines. Our system then finds distances between lines and counts the number of lines. The measured results were compared with the a reference length obtaining from an encoder of a precise stepping motor to measure the precision of the ruler scale. From the experiment results, the machine is shown to be capable of standard rulers grade 2 calibration. Lastly, the measurement uncertainty of the machine was analyzed.

This paper presents object detection and modeling algorithm for automatic visual people counting system to identify individuals from top view images acquired from an overhead surveillance camera. This work proposes Snake algorithm with effective external energy function and a half-circle template initialization for modeling passengers. The experiment result showed that the proposed method could fit the Snake to the head and shoulder boundaries of the passengers effectively. Fitting error of 3.76 pixels per control point was obtained in our experiment. The information is not only useful for verifying humans but also for extracting appearance features to enhance performance of the subsequent tracking algorithm.

This paper presents a new coding technique for fingerprint compression, which is based on contourlet transform and Self-Organizing Feature Map (SOFM) vector quantization. One of the main difficulties in developing compression algorithms for fingerprints resides in the need for preserving the minutiae, which are subsequently used in identification. Wavelets have shown their ability in representing natural images that contain smooth areas separated with edges. However, wavelets cannot efficiently represent the ridge and furrow patterns, which are predominant in fingerprints. This issue is addressed by directional transforms, known as contourlets, which have the property of preserving edges. SOFM based vector quantizer quantizes the coefficients obtained by contourlet transform. The results obtained are tabulated and compared with those of the wavelet based ones. © 2007 JD.

Most simulations of electric field distribution during the very fast transient (VFT) process are based on equivalent waveforms, which affects the analysis of the electric field. In this paper, the actual VFT process is simulated based on the 3D full Maxwell finite element method (FEM). The electric field distribution at different points is measured. To investigate the influence of the induced electric field during the VFT process, and whether high amplitude or high steepness is the main factor affecting insulation during the VFT process, the simulation results are compared with the electrostatic simulation results. The results show that the induced electric field caused by the wave process does not play an important part. The electric field distribution is hardly influenced by the induced electric field. Therefore, the threat to insulation caused by VFTO is mainly due to its high amplitude, which leads to a stronger Coulomb electric field. Besides, the wave process only leads to a 6~8% voltage amplitude increase, which is much lower than the amplitude increase due to externally generated low-frequency oscillations. Therefore, the high amplitude of VFTO is mainly caused by low-frequency oscillations, rather than the high-frequency components during the VFT process. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Islanding phenomenon is one of the major concerns in the distributed generator (DG) systems. Islanding occurs when one or more DGs supplied local loads without connecting to the grid utility. This unintentional condition must be detected with the minimum time possible to prevent the hazardous effects to a person worked in the system or equipment connected to the network. The two main methods of anti-islanding are passive and active methods. The passive methods are excellent in the speed of detection and power quality. However, the passive have relatively large non-detection zone (NDZ). On the other hands, the active methods have less relatively small NDZ and still provide a good speed of detection. This paper proposes an anti-islanding technique for multiple grid-connected inverters in photovoltaic (PV) system based on an active method. By injecting harmonic currents with the same or different harmonic orders and monitoring the change at the point of common coupling (PCC), the islanding condition can be diagnosed. Due to its excellent algorithm looking at specific frequencies, the Goertzel algorithm is employed in this paper to identify frequency components. Simulation results using PSIM software confirm the effectiveness to the technique in accordance with the requirements of the interconnection standards, IEEE Std. 1547 and IEEE Std. 929–2000.

This paper presents the development of inspection system using ultrasonic for steel plate manufacturing. Generally, internal defects in the final product of steel plate are inspected manually by human operators, which is a time consuming process. In this research, the crystal of an ultrasonic probe at natural frequency suitable for steel plate examination was developed. In our design, high sensitivity (i.e. high signal peak amplitude) and good resolution were achieved using a (water coupling) probe structure, without ceramic wear plate, and a signal processing called the 1-bit technique. Backing material of the probe was carefully designed and experimented to obtain proper impedance matching with the probe's crystal by varying its material composition. Jig with a dual-probe support to speed up the inspection of a steel plate was implemented. Moreover, the 1-bit technique was applied to improve resolution of the inspection and to detect small flaws close to the far surface of the steel plate. The developed probe has more sensitivity than that of commercial probes in terms of frequency response. The 1-bit processing technique has been realized and simulated and it showed advantages over the conventional method for processing time and accuracy.

This paper proposes the combining of μ-synthesis robust repetitive control and feedforward control scheme to the design of constant sinusoidal voltage tracking for a stand-alone three-phase constant voltage inverter. The controller designed problem is defined in the form of two-degree-of-freedom feedback-feedforward controller. The D-K iterative algorithm is used to solve for both parts of the controller in one procedure to get the optimal controller. The proposed control scheme inherits the advantage of the robust repetitive control but does better in tracking performance. Simulation studies of the system were carried out using Matlab/SIMULINK to verify the effectiveness of the controller. The results show that the proposed control scheme outperforms the previous works under the scenario cases.
