A smart antenna was proposed to improve wireless communication systems. The smart antenna may comprises direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation and/or adaptive antenna. The DOA estimation technique is used to estimate direction of transmitted signals. An adaptive antenna has ability of suppressing undesired signals namely interference or jammers in specific directions while receive only the desired one. There are a number of methods proposed to conduct in such way, including multiple signal classification (MUSIC), least mean squares (LMS), sample matrix inversion (SMI), recursive least squares (RLS), and their derivative forms as seen in the literatures in [1]. These methods require a training sequence or known information for adaptation and/or DOA estimation. Although a constant modulus algorithm (CMA) was proposed without the need of training sequence, it has a slow convergence. © 2012 IEICE.

This work deals with the Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem with Setup Times, with the objective of minimizing the makespan. It is proposed an Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS) metaheuristic using Learning Automata (LA) to adapt the probabilities of using removal and insertion heuristics and methods. A computable function in the LA updates the probability vector for selecting the actions, corresponding to six removal and six insertion methods. We also propose a new insertion method based on Hungarian algorithm, which is applied to solve subproblems optimally. Computational experiments are performed to verify the performance of the proposed method. A set of instances available in the literature with problems up to 150 jobs and 10 machines is employed in the experiments. The proposed LA-ALNS is compared against three other algorithms from the literature. The results suggest that our algorithm has better performance in most of cases (88%) under the defined conditions of experiments. Statistical tests also suggest that LA-ALNS is better than the other algorithms from the literature. The proposed method is able to automatically choose the most suitable heuristics for the instance of the problem, through adaptation and learning in the Learning Automata. © 2017 IEEE.

The scope of the work is to investigate limitations in device scaling by identifying various parameters of short channel effects (SCEs) in current challenging geometries of the line tunnel field effect transistors (TFETs). Key factors of the considered device, such as the doping and the thickness (tn) of n-epitaxial region, and source-to-drain length (LSDeff) scaling cannot be tuned anymore to boost the device characteristics for the sub-8-nm technology node. The main results of this study indicates that the engineering acceptable performance are achieved at a low doping of 5 1018 cm-3, an optimal tn as low (about 0.5 nm), and a LSDeff greater than 12.5 nm. Hence, the line TFETs below sub-8-nm faces serious bottleneck of scaling and cannot be further scaled with the conventional scaling rule at all. © 2020 IEEE.

The Neural Networks (NN) model which is incorporated in the control system design has been studied, and the results show better performance than the mathematical model approach. However, some studies consider that only offline NN model learning and does not use the online NN model learning directly on the control system. As a result, the controller's performance decreases due to changes in the system environment from time to time. The Reinforcement Learning (RL) method has been investigated intensively, especially Model-based RL (Mb-RL) to predict system dynamics. It has been investigated and performs well in making the system more robust to environmental changes by enabling online learning. This paper proposes online learning of local dynamics using the Mb-RL method by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. We consider Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme as an agent of the Mb-RL method to control the regulatory trajectory objectives with a random shooting policy to search for the minimum objective function. A nonlinear Mass Spring Damper (NMSD) system with parameter-varying linear inertia is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the system can effectively control high-oscillating nonlinear systems with good performance. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Lead telluride is an important thermoelectric material due to its large Seebeck coefficient combined with its unusually low thermal conductivity that is related to the strong anharmonicity of phonons in this material. Here, we have studied the resonant and nonperturbative coupling of transverse optical phonons in lead telluride with cavity photons inside small-mode-volume metallic metasurface cavities that have photonic modes with terahertz frequencies. We observed a giant vacuum Rabi splitting on the order of the bare phonon and cavity frequencies. Through terahertz time-domain spectroscopy experiments, we systematically studied the vacuum Rabi splitting as a function of sample thickness, temperature, and cavity length. Under the strongest light–matter coupling conditions, the strength of coupling exceeded the bare phonon and cavity frequencies, putting the system into the deep-strong coupling regime. These results demonstrate that this uniquely tunable platform is promising for realizing and understanding predicted cavity-vacuum-induced ferroelectric instabilities and exploring applications of light–matter coupling in the ultrastrong and deep-strong coupling regimes in quantum technology. This paper investigates the effect of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) measurement accuracy exploiting data modulated symbols in SIR-based fast closed loop transmit power control (TPC) considering the application of closed loop transmit diversity mode 1 in wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) system. SIR measurement is performed after removing the random data modulation so as to maximize the instantaneous received power. computer simulation results clarify the advantage of data-aided SIR measurement even in the presence of feedback information (FBI) errors. Further, we also clarified that exploiting data symbols in addition to DPCH pilot symbols exhibits better performance. The data-aided SIR measurement technique is an add-on functionality to the standardized user equipment (UE) so that the adoption shall not affect the operation of commercial systems. © 2005 IEEE.

Unmanned vehicle is future vehicle technology. Lateral control technology and longitudinal control technology are needed for unmanned vehicle. Automatic steering system is lateral control technology. A automatic steering system automatically controls the steering to keep the vehicle in its land and also to follow the lane as it curves around. This paper proposes automatic steering system based on fuzzy logic. If the fuzzy rules are set properly, the fuzzy controller can control the objective system nicely. To design an automatic steering system, lateral error dynamics of a vehicle is derived. The proposed automatic steering system is evaluated by SIMULINK in MATLAB. The simulation results show that the proposed automatic steering system works satisfactorily for keeping the vehicle in its land and following the lane. ©ISAROB 2008.

A map is necessary for tasks such as path planning or localization, which are common to mobile robot navigation. However, a map may be unavailable if the environment in which a robot navigates is unknown. Creating a map requires an exploration algorithm. Such algorithms guide robots to boundaries that separate known portions of a map from the unknown portions. Such boundaries are known as frontiers. There are image processing-based algorithms that detect frontiers. The authors’ previous work uses two, i.e., local and global, rapidly exploring random trees (RRTs) for two-dimensional exploration using a single robot. The present work applies the above to a multiagent system with three robots. A market-based strategy is used to allocate exploration tasks to the robots. Results show that the developed exploration strategy successfully explores a map in a reasonable amount of time compared to image processing-based approaches, and also reduces the map exploration cost. This strategy is readily usable for three-dimensional exploration with drones. It is also shown that the usage of a local frontier detector along with a global frontier detector helps reduce exploration time compared to simply using a global frontier detector alone. As an outline to future work, the paper also shows an extension of the proposed approach towards three-dimensional mapping using a single robot. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper presents a comparison among different strategies to coordinate the use of heterogeneous wireless sensors aimed for area surveillance. The heterogeneity among the sensor nodes is related to their sensing and mobility capabilities. The goal of the strategies is to provide coordination among the different nodes, in order to make the wireless sensor network perform its missions with higher efficiency. Strategies combine advantages of bio-inspired and utility-based approaches to coordination. Simulations of scenarios with different characteristics were performed and the results are compared and analyzed. © 2010 IEEE.

We present a scalable solution-processing method for fabricating high-quality graphene and graphene/1T-MoS2 heterostructure films. The process begins with the synthesis of potassium-intercalated graphite (KC8), which is exfoliated in tetrahydrofuran (THF) to produce stable dispersions of negatively charged (electron rich) graphene sheets. The graphene is subsequently transferred to water, forming a surfactant-free aqueous dispersion suitable for creating homogenous graphene films via vacuum filtration and stamping. Additionally, graphene is combined with 1T-MoS2 nanosheets to fabricate graphene/1T-MoS2 bulk heterostructure films. Comprehensive characterization, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photon emission spectroscopy (XPS), reveals that the heterostructure films exhibit enhanced optical and electronic properties, including improved light absorption, which could lead to novel photo-responsive devices. Raman spectroscopy shows significant changes in the graphene's structural and electronic properties upon interaction with MoS2, indicating strong interlayer coupling and potential charge transfer between the layered components. The graphene films demonstrate highly sensitive detection of dopamine (DA), while the graphene/1T-MoS2 bulk heterostructure films exhibit capacitance values up to 38.3 Fg−1 at 5 mV/s in non-aqueous electrolytes. These results highlight the potential of these films for advanced applications in molecular sensing and energy storage. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
