In this paper, we study the transmission strategy of a ground-based beyond diagonal reconfigurable intelligent surface (BD-RIS), a.k.a RIS 2.0, in a network where multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) simultaneously transmit signals to the respective groups of users. It is assumed that each group is assigned subcarriers orthogonal to those assigned to other groups and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is adopted within each group. A corresponding mixed integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP) is formulated, which aims to jointly optimize 1) allocation of BD-RIS elements to groups, 2) BD-RIS phase rotations, 3) rate allocation in RSMA, and 4) precoders. To solve the problem, we propose using generalized benders decomposition (GBD) augmented with a manifold-based algorithm. GBD splits the MINLP problem into two sub-problems, namely the primal and the relaxed master problem, which are solved alternately and iteratively. In the primal problem, we apply block coordinate descent (BCD) to manage the coupling of variables effectively. Moreover, we recognize the manifold structure in the phase rotation constraint of BD-RIS, enabling the Riemannian conjugate gradient (RCG). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in maximizing spectral efficiency.

Convergence of Bi-Virus Epidemic Models with Non-Linear Rates on Networks - A Monotone Dynamical Systems Approach

We study convergence properties of competing epidemic models of the Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible (SIS) type. The SIS epidemic model has seen widespread popularity in modelling the spreading dynamics of contagions such as viruses, infectious diseases, or even rumors/opinions over contact networks (graphs). We analyze the case of two such viruses spreading on overlaid graphs, with non-linear rates of infection spread and recovery. We call this the non-linear bi-virus model and, building upon recent results, obtain precise conditions for global convergence of the solutions to a trichotomy of possible outcomes: a virus-free state, a single-virus state, and to a coexistence state. Our techniques are based on the theory of monotone dynamical systems (MDS), in contrast to Lyapunov based techniques that have only seen partial success in determining convergence properties in the setting of competing epidemics. We demonstrate how the existing works have been unsuccessful in characterizing a large subset of the model parameter space for bi-virus epidemics, including all scenarios leading to coexistence of the epidemics. To the best of our knowledge, our results are the first in providing complete convergence analysis for the bi-virus system with nonlinear infection and recovery rates on general graphs. © 2022, CC BY.

Heavily-doped strained germanium (Ge) can emit light efficiently thanks to its pseudo direct band gap characteristic. This makes Ge a good candidate for on-chip monolithic light sources in silicon (Si) photonics systems. We propose fin-shaped Ge-Si heterojunction lightemitting diode (LED) with metal gates, which can enhance light emission by coupling with surface plasmon resonant modes and modulate light emission from the LED. We verify these two aspects through numerical analysis and device simulations. We develop the method to find the optimal device structure and specific device dimensions to maximize the spontaneous emission rate enhancement. Also we find that the LED can be modulated by a gate voltage bias. © 2014 Optical Society of America.

The overall goal of this study was to identify an objective physiological correlate of electric-acoustic pitch matching in unilaterally implanted cochlear implant (CI) participants with residual hearing in the non-implanted ear. electrical and acoustic stimuli were presented in a continuously alternating fashion across ears. The acoustic stimulus and the electrical stimulus were either matched or mismatched in pitch. Auditory evoked potentials were obtained from nine CI users. Results indicated that N1 latency was stimulus-dependent, decreasing when the acoustic frequency of the tone presented to the non-implanted ear was increased. More importantly, there was an additional decrease in N1 latency in the pitch-matched condition. These results indicate the potential utility of N1 latency as an index of pitch matching in CI users. © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a pivotal genetic marker influencing the efficacy of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. Traditional MSI examination often requires additional genetic or immunohistochemical tests, whereas histology images, widely available in colorectal cancer diagnosis, offer a valuable alternative for MSI prediction. Although Transformer-based models have demonstrated promising outcomes in predicting MSI from histology images, they are hampered by traditional local attention mechanisms that struggle to capture long-range interdependencies and establish a comprehensive global receptive field. In this study, we introduce DiNAT-MSI, a novel framework for histology-based MSI prediction that incorporates the Dilated Neighborhood Attention Transformer (DiNAT). This model enhances global context recognition and substantially expands receptive fields, all without additional computational burden. Our results demonstrate that DiNAT-MSI achieves a superior patientwise AUROC compared to ResNet18 and Swin Transformer, along with commendable explainability. Our work not only illustrates a more accessible diagnostic tool for leveraging histological data but also underscores the potential of Transformerbased models with sophisticated attention designs in advancing precision medicine for colorectal cancer patients. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, the growth of information and technology is rapid. It makes a lot of things in various fields including education becoming more effective and efficient. In education, one of its implementation which is a game is proven to be a useful tool to support conventional teaching methods and bring a more natural understanding of learning materials. Moreover, as a product of the popular culture in modern society, video game mirrors the general culture practice in real life and reflects it via its own culture inside the game. This makes a video game can give a contribution to the social construction of reality as it affects the player's view towards learning in real life and vice versa. From there, we see that there is an opportunity for learning about religion to be supported by its utilization to provide an interactive and fun learning experience. In this paper, we discuss how a video game is implemented to support religious learning. The game was developed with the scrum method where we surveyed to gather the user requirements before the design step. The game design was made by using the use case diagram and storyboard, and it was built using Unity version 2017.3.0f3. © 2019 IEEE.

Real-time Vehicle Detection and Tracking on Fisheye Traffic Monitoring Video in Compressed Domain

Our goal is to develop real-time vehicle detection and tracking schemes for fisheye traffic monitoring video using the temporal information in the compressed domain without decoding the entire video. Two algorithms are proposed. The first algorithm starts with a conventional single-frame detector, but we introduce a multi-frame information fusion stage to improve the final detection and tracking accuracy, which is implemented using multi-modal bi-directional LSTM (MM bi-LSTM) network. The second algorithm first constructs multi-frame motion trail image, and then a single-image multi-head detector is designed to produce bounding boxes of an individual frame. The first scheme can be viewed as a detect-to-track design, and the second scheme is track-to-detect. We tested our proposals on the ICIP2020 VIP Cup dataset in H.265 video format. The aforementioned algorithms are applied to the motion fields and residual images in the H.265 compressed data set. It turns out that their detection and tracking performances are on par with their pixel-domain counterparts, and they can achieve the state-of-the-art accuracy of conventional video object detectors and trackers. If the decoding process for video compression is not counted, their computational complexities are much lower than the conventional pixel-domain video object detectors and trackers. © 2023 S.
