We report preliminary results of extracting electrical parameters like DC conductivity, mobility, and carrier concentration of single-layer graphene using Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) in transmission geometry. We utilize a simple Drude model and its extension, the Drude-Smith model, capable of accommodating charge carrier scattering by optical and acoustic phonons to describe the complex conductivity in graphene. We observed that a significant area of the sample scanned followed the Drude-Smith behavior, while at a few locations, the simple Drude behavior prevailed. We identified possible reasons that might contribute to this observation, like defects, the presence of polymer residue on the sample, or the sample strain. This research sheds new light on our understanding of graphene's electrical properties and lays the foundation for future investigations addressing defects and contaminants in graphene samples.

Isobaric labeling relative quantitation is one of the dominating proteomic quantitation technologies. Traditional quantitation pipelines for isobaric-labeled mass spectrometry data are based on sequence database searching. In this study, we present a novel quantitation pipeline that integrates sequence database searching, spectral library searching, and a feature-based peptide-spectrum-match (PSM) filter using various spectral features for filtering. The combined database and spectral library searching results in larger quantitation coverage, and the filter removes PSMs with larger quantitation errors, retaining those with higher quantitation accuracy. Quantitation results show that the proposed pipeline can improve the overall quantitation accuracy at the PSM and protein levels. To our knowledge, this is the first study that utilizes spectral library searching to improve isobaric labeling-based quantitation. For users to conveniently perform the proposed pipeline, we have implemented the feature-based filter being executable on both Windows and Linux platforms;its executable files, user manual, and sample data sets are freely available at https://***/comics/Software_*** . Furthermore, with the developed filter, the proposed pipeline is fully compatible with the Trans-Proteomic Pipeline. © 2023, Springer Nature Limited.

Semantic communication technologies enable wireless edge devices to communicate effectively by transmitting semantic meaning of data. Edge components, such as vehicles in next-generation intelligent transport systems, use well-trained semantic models to encode and decode semantic information extracted from raw and sensor data. However, the limitation in computing resources makes it difficult to support the training process of accurate semantic models on edge devices. As such, edge devices can buy the pretrained semantic models from semantic model providers, which is called "semantic model trading". Upon collecting semantic information with the semantic models, the edge devices can then sell the extracted semantic information, e.g., information about urban road conditions or traffic signs, to the interested buyers for profit, which is called "semantic information trading". To facilitate both types of the trades, effective incentive mechanisms should be designed. Thus, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical trading system to support both semantic model trading and semantic information trading jointly. The proposed incentive mechanism helps to maximize the revenue of semantic model providers in the semantic model trading, and effectively incentivizes model providers to participate in the development of semantic communication systems. For semantic information trading, our designed auction approach can support the trading between multiple semantic information sellers and buyers, while ensuring individual rationality, incentive compatibility, and budget balance, and moreover, allowing them achieve higher utilities than the baseline method. The biggest wish of the e-commerce industry is to forecast and estimate the taste and repugnance of users by utilizing user ratings for various products. Chaotic users' feedback drives the e-commerce industry to develop efficient, robust, and smart recommendation systems with the capability to deal with the inconsistencies in users' rating patterns and provide extremely related, appropriate, and timely recommendations. A few fractional order-based solutions for an effective matrix factorization procedure are suggested to boost recommender systems' performance regarding recommendations speed and precision. We further investigate a newly proposed enhanced fractional stochastic gradient descent (EFSGD) technique for accelerating recommendations speed through efficient matrix factorization. The Faa di Bruno fractional derivative used in EFSGD exploits the users' historical feedback for providing accurate predictions. As a result of the growing computational complexity of recommendation models, it will a challenge for EFSGD to extract group of prominent features and ignore the cluster of redundant users' and items' latent attributes for increasing the recommendation speed and reducing the computational complexity respectively. Therefore, (a) to resolve chaotic users' ratings patterns problem and (b) reduce the complexity by identifying and selecting groups of highly correlated latent features, an innovative elastic net regularized enhanced fractional adaptive model is developed for efficient matrix factorization. The proposed model for recommender systems outperforms baseline and state-of-the-art in terms of convergence speed, computational cost, and prediction accuracy. The substantial performance of the suggested strategy is verified through various latent factors, ratings prediction-based valuation measures, learning-rates, and fractional order values. Whereas the authenticity is verified through Movie-Lens and FilmTrust datasets. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The scope of the work is to investigate limitations in device scaling by identifying various parameters of short channel effects (SCEs) in current challenging geometries of the line tunnel field effect transistors (TFETs). Key factors of the considered device, such as the doping and the thickness (tn) of n-epitaxial region, and source-to-drain length (LSDeff) scaling cannot be tuned anymore to boost the device characteristics for the sub-8-nm technology node. The main results of this study indicates that the engineering acceptable performance are achieved at a low doping of 5 1018 cm-3, an optimal tn as low (about 0.5 nm), and a LSDeff greater than 12.5 nm. Hence, the line TFETs below sub-8-nm faces serious bottleneck of scaling and cannot be further scaled with the conventional scaling rule at all. © 2020 IEEE.

Topology can manifest itself in colloids when quantified by invariants like Euler characteristics of nonzero-genus colloidal surfaces, albeit spherical colloidal particles are most often studied, and colloidal particles with complex topology are rarely considered. On the other hand, singular defects and topological solitons often define the physical behavior of the molecular alignment director fields in liquid crystals. Interestingly, nematic liquid crystalline dispersions of colloidal particles allow for probing the interplay between topologies of surfaces and fields, but only a limited number of such cases have been explored so far. Here, we study the hybridization of topological solitons, singular defects, and topologically nontrivial colloidal particles with the genus of surfaces different from zero in a chiral nematic liquid crystal phase. Hybridization occurs when distortions separately induced by colloidal particles and LC solitons overlap, leading to energy minimization-driven redistribution of director field deformations and defects. As a result, hybrid director configurations emerge, combining topological features from both components. We uncover a host of director field configurations complying with topological theorems, which can be controlled by applying electric fields. Rotational and translational dynamics arise due to the nonreciprocal evolution of the director fields in response to alternating electric fields of different frequencies. These findings help define a platform for controlling topologically hyper-complex colloidal structures and dynamics with electrically reconfigurable singular defects and topological solitons induced by colloidal handlebodies. Unlike geometrical features, such as shape or volume, the topological properties of an object do not change continuously, but only due to abrupt transitions associated with a change in the integer quantities that describe these properties - known as topological invariants. In turn, this resilience of topological features is associated with intrinsic robustness. For example, the topological invariant known as the Chern number, associated with the quantization of the Hall conductance in a two-dimensional electron gas, supports disorder-immune electron transport at the surface of topological insulators (TIs). One of the most significant breakthroughs in physics of the last decade has been the discovery that materials with non-trivial topological properties for electronic, electromagnetic, acoustic and mechanical responses can be designed and manufactured at our will through engineered metamaterials (MMs). Here, we review the foundation and the state-of-the-art advances of topological photonics, acoustics and mechanical MMs. We discuss how topological MMs enable nontrivial wave phenomena in physics, engineering, of great interest for a broad range of interdisciplinary science disciplines such as classical and quantum chemistry. We first introduce the foundations of topological materials and the main concepts behind their peculiar features, including the concepts of topological charge and geometric phase. We then discuss the topology of electronic band structures in natural topological materials, like topological insulators and gapless Dirac and Weyl semimetals. Based on these concepts, we review the concept, design and response of topologically nontrivial MMs in photonics and phononics, including topological phases in 2D MMs with and without time-reversal symmetry, Floquet TIs based on spatial and temporal modulation, topological phases in 3D MMs, higher-order topological phases in MMs, non-Hermitian and nonlinear topological MMs and the topological features of scatteri

Point clouds have recently gained interest, especially for real-time applications and for 3D-scanned material, such as is used in autonomous driving, architecture, and engineering, to model real estate for renovation or display. Point clouds are associated with geometry information and attributes such as color. Be the color unique or direction-dependent (in the case of plenoptic point clouds), it reflects the colors observed by cameras displaced around the object. Hence, not only are the viewing references assumed, but the illumination spectrum and illumination geometry is also implicit. We propose a model-centric description of the 3D object, that is independent of the illumination and of the position of the cameras. We want to be able to describe the objects themselves such that, at a later stage, the rendering of the model may decide where to place illumination, from which it may calculate the image viewed by a given camera. We want to be able to describe transparent or translucid objects, mirrors, fishbowls, fog and smoke. Volumetric clouds may allow us to describe the air, however "empty", and introduce air particles, in a manner independent of the viewer position. For that, we rely on some eletromagnetic properties to arrive at seven attributes per voxel that would describe the material and its color or transparency. Three attributes are for the transmissivity of each color, three are for the attenuation of each color, and another attribute is for diffuseness. These attributes give information about the object to the renderer, with whom lies the decision on how to render and depict each object. © 2021, CC BY.
