Hybrid feature selection method for predicting software defect

To address the challenges associated with the abundance of features in software datasets, this study proposes a novel hybrid feature selection method that combines quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) and principal component analysis (PCA). The objective is to identify a subset of relevant features that can effectively contribute to the accuracy of a predictive model based on an artificial neural network (ANN). The quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm is employed to optimize the selection of features by simulating the behavior of quantum particles in a search space. This approach enhances the exploration and exploitation capabilities, allowing for a more effective identification of relevant features. Furthermore, principal component analysis is integrated into the hybrid method to reduce dimensionality and remove multicollinearity among features, thereby improving the efficiency of the feature selection process. The proposed hybrid method is applied to software defect datasets, where the selected subset of features is fed into an artificial neural network for defect prediction. The performance of the hybrid model is compared with traditional feature selection methods, standalone QPSO, and PCA. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the hybrid approach in achieving superior predictive accuracy while reducing the dimensionality of the dataset. The proposed approach not only enhances prediction accuracy but also provides a more interpretable and efficient subset of features for building robust defect prediction models. © The Author(s) 2024.

Learning continuous network emerging dynamics from scarce observations via data-adaptive stochastic processes

Learning network dynamics from the empirical structure and spatio-temporal observation data is crucial to revealing the interaction mechanisms of complex networks in a wide range of domains. However,most existing methods only aim at learning network dynamic behaviors generated by a specific ordinary differential equation instance, resulting in ineffectiveness for new ones, and generally require dense *** observed data, especially from network emerging dynamics, are usually difficult to obtain, which brings trouble to model learning. Therefore, learning accurate network dynamics with sparse, irregularly-sampled,partial, and noisy observations remains a fundamental challenge. We introduce a new concept of the stochastic skeleton and its neural implementation, i.e., neural ODE processes for network dynamics(NDP4ND), a new class of stochastic processes governed by stochastic data-adaptive network dynamics, to overcome the challenge and learn continuous network dynamics from scarce observations. Intensive experiments conducted on various network dynamics in ecological population evolution, phototaxis movement, brain activity, epidemic spreading, and real-world empirical systems, demonstrate that the proposed method has excellent data adaptability and computational efficiency, and can adapt to unseen network emerging dynamics, producing accurate interpolation and extrapolation with reducing the ratio of required observation data to only about 6% and improving the learning speed for new dynamics by three orders of magnitude.

In order to fully utilize lesion features and vascular structure and solve the problem of class imbalance, diabetes retinopathy (DR) grading is modeled as a dual-stage task, and the prior-guided dual-stage diabetes retinopathy grading model is proposed by designing an end-to-end hierarchical framework, consisting of XE-Net and MFC-Net. The former uses vascular structure from color fundus images as prior knowledge to guide the classification of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and non-PDR;the latter further classifies non-PDR images using color fundus images with four types of segmented lesions. The core of MFC-Net is the feature collaboration block (FCB) for multi-classification tasks, which is proposed to facilitate effective collaboration between global and local features. In addition, a class-balanced (CB) loss weight is also introduced to address the common class imbalance problem in DR datasets. The experimental results on two publicly available datasets, DDR and IDRiD show that the proposed model has significant advantages. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

The superalignment of superhuman intelligence with large language models

We have witnessed the emergence of superhuman intelligence thanks to the fast development of large language models (LLMs) and multimodal language models. As the application of such superhuman models becomes increasingly popular, a critical question arises: how can we ensure they still remain safe, reliable, and aligned well with human values encompassing moral values, Schwartz's Values, ethics, and many more?In this position paper, we discuss the concept of superalignment from a learning perspective to answer this question by outlining the learning paradigm shift from large-scale pretraining and supervised fine-tuning, to alignment training. We define superalignment as designing effective and efficient alignment algorithms to learn from noisy-labeleddata (point-wise samples or pair-wise preference data) in a scalableway when the task is very complex for human experts to annotate and when the model is stronger than human *** highlight some key research problems in superalignment, namely, weak-to-strong generalization, scalable oversight, and evaluation. We then present a conceptual framework for superalignment, which comprises three modules: an attackerwhich generates the adversary queries trying to expose the weaknesses of a learner model, a learnerwhich refines itself by learning from scalable feedbacks generated by a critic model with minimal human experts, and a criticwhich generates critics or explanations for a given query-response pair, with a target of improving the learner by *** discuss some important research problems in each component of this framework and highlight some interesting research ideas that are closely related to our proposed framework, for instance, self-alignment, self-play, self-refinement, and more. Last, we highlight some future research directions for superalignment, including the identification of new emergent risks and multi-dimensional alignment.

This paper introduces SWARMS, a tool for exploring domain knowledge in semantic web. By domain knowledge exploration, we mean searching for or navigating the knowledge in a specific domain. We have found, through an analysis of survey result and an analysis of using log data, that requirements for domain knowledge exploration can be grouped into three categories. The categories include knowledge search, schema based navigation, and search results analysis. Traditional methods usually focus on one of the three types, for example, retrieval of 'relevant knowledge' by exploiting full-text retrieval methods. We propose a tool, called SWARMS, for exploring domain knowledge, in which we provide the ability to conduct domain knowledge exploration by the three categories. Specifically, users can conduct search for special kind of knowledge and they can also interact with the tool by navigating the knowledge base. Furthermore, we conduct analysis for the search or navigation results. The tool is applied to the software management domain. We use ontology as the mean for knowledge representation. It is crucial to predict the outputs of a thickening system,including the underflow concentration(UC)and mud pressure,for optimal control of the *** proliferation of industrial sensors and the availability of thickening-system data make this ***,the unique properties of thickening systems,such as the non-linearities,long-time delays,partially observed data,and continuous time evolution pose challenges on building data-driven predictive *** address the above challenges,we establish an integrated,deep-learning,continuous time network structure that consists of a sequential encoder,a state decoder,and a derivative module to learn the deterministic state space model from thickening *** a case study,we examine our methods with a tailing thickener manufactured by the FLSmidth installed with massive sensors and obtain extensive experimental *** results demonstrate that the proposed continuous-time model with the sequential encoder achieves better prediction performances than the existing discrete-time models and reduces the negative effects from long time delays by extracting features from historical system *** proposed method also demonstrates outstanding performances for both short and long term prediction tasks with the two proposed derivative types.

The management of dynamic spectrum access requires the coordination of administrative functions across multiple organizations, from regulators to secondary market operators and commons cooperatives. Policy-based management approaches to dynamic spectrum access must therefore support a wide range of organizational types and handle the relationships between policies authored separately within those organizations. A policy language for administering dynamic access to spectrum resources has been proposed by the DARPA XG initiative. This defines an expressive and extensible language for specifying policies that determine the correct behavior of RIF transceivers as spectrum usage opportunities occur. However, this language does not yet address the mapping of policies onto the complex organizational settings that are likely to emerge in the dynamic spectrum access domain. This paper defines how the DARPA XG policy language can be integrated with a meta-policy management scheme that provides the powerful organizational modeling and policy authoring authority control needed to manage the evolution of policies in these complex organizational settings. The benefits of this integration are illustrated through a case study based on the potential use of dynamic spectrum access licenses granted in Ireland for the DySpan 2007 conference, and the organizational conflicts that even this simple scenario can yield. The practical issues of administering a multi-organizational policy management system are examined through an analysis of the interactions between existing components that are being assembled to demonstrate sophisticated policy management of a cognitive radio system.

Effective short text classification via the fusion of hybrid features for IoT social data

Nowadays short texts can be widely found in various social data in relation to the 5G-enabled Internet of Things (IoT). Short text classification is a challenging task due to its sparsity and the lack of context. Previous studies mainly tackle these problems by enhancing the semantic information or the statistical information individually. However, the improvement achieved by a single type of information is limited, while fusing various information may help to improve the classification accuracy more effectively. To fuse various information for short text classification, this article proposes a feature fusion method that integrates the statistical feature and the comprehensive semantic feature together by using the weighting mechanism and deep learning models. In the proposed method, we apply Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) to generate word vectors on the sentence level automatically, and then obtain the statistical feature, the local semantic feature and the overall semantic feature using Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) weighting approach, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Bidirectional Gate Recurrent Unit (BiGRU). Then, the fusion feature is accordingly obtained for classification. Experiments are conducted on five popular short text classification datasets and a 5G-enabled IoT social dataset and the results show that our proposed method effectively improves the classification performance.

Prenatal depression,which can affect pregnant women’s physical and psychological health and cause postpartum depression,is increasing ***,it is essential to detect prenatal depression early and conduct an attribution *** studies have used questionnaires to screen for prenatal depression,but the existing methods lack *** diagnose the early signs of prenatal depression and identify the key factors that may lead to prenatal depression from questionnaires,we present the semantically enhanced option embedding(SEOE)model to represent questionnaire *** can quantitatively determine the relationship and patterns between options and *** first quantifies options and resorts them,gathering options with little difference,since Word2Vec is highly dependent on *** resort task is transformed into an optimization problem involving the traveling salesman ***,all questionnaire samples are used to train the options’vector using ***,an LSTM and GRU fused model incorporating the cycle learning rate is constructed to detect whether a pregnant woman is suffering from *** verify the model,we compare it with other deep learning and traditional machine learning *** experiment results show that our proposed model can accurately identify pregnant women with depression and reach an F1 score of *** most relevant factors of depression found by SEOE are also verified in the *** addition,our model is of low computational complexity and strong generalization,which can be widely applied to other questionnaire analyses of psychiatric disorders.
