The emergence of dynamic information sources including sensor networks has led to large streams of real time data on the Web. Research studies suggest, these dynamic networks have created more data in the last three years than in the entire history of civilization, and this trend will only increase in the coming years [1]. With this coming data explosion, real time analytics software must either adapt or die [2]. This paper focuses on the task of integrating and analyzing multiple heterogeneous streams of sensor data with the goal of creating meaningful abstractions, or features. These features are then temporally aggregated into feature streams. We will demonstrate an implemented framework, based on Semantic Web technologies, that creates feature streams from sensor streams in real-time, and publishes these streams as Linked Data. The generation of feature streams can be accomplished in reasonable time and results in massive data reduction.

This paper demonstrates a Semantic Web enabled system for collecting and processing sensor data within a rescue environment. The real time system collects heterogeneous raw sensor data from rescue robots through a wireless sensor network. The raw sensor data is converted to RDF using the Semantic Sensor Network (SSN) ontology and further processed to generate abstractions used for event detection in emergency scenarios.

In light of the focus on competence in Hilti's Champion 3C strategy (customer, competence and concentration)1and their lived process organization the following paper proposes a modeling method for a process driven competence management (PCM) approach that combines a process and a person-centered view on competences. Processes provide the context in which competences are identified, managed, evaluated and further developed. In the person-centered view identified competences are further defined and associated to job profiles and periodically assessed based on Hilti's Situational Leadership® model. Assessment results are linked to training and coaching initiatives to ensure that competence targets are met adequately and in consequence lead to better process performance The implemented PCM prototype on ADOxx® is based on the application scenario for the customer service center at Hilti.

To generate large number of reports in a limited time window, four techniques were proposed, including ROLAP&SQL, Shared Scanning, Hadoop based Solution, and MOLAP&Cube Sharding, an algorithm that performs in memory aggregation was designed for the second solution. The experiment results show that all techniques except ROLAP&SQL can meet the time window constraint, the Hadoop based solution is a promising technique owe to its highly scalability. Considering maturity of the techniques and their performance, we put MOLAP&Cube Sharding into practice while keeping an eye on Hadoop for future adoption.

We propose a method to extract salient contour groups from cluttered regions using Markov Random Fields. Our technique delineates smooth, long, and elliptical curves out of clutter. To extract salient curves, we use the following perceptual rules: smoothness, proximity, co-circularity, co-elliptic, and length. Our method consists of the following steps: obtaining individual smooth contours along their saliency measures; starting from the most salient contour search for possible grouping options for each contour; continuing the grouping until an optimum solution is reached. We introduce circularity and saliency measures for open curves. We applied our method to discern coronal loops from cluttered solar images, and were able to successfully obtain the entire set of desired coronal loops while eliminating any cluttered background.

Telemedicine is a very important area in medical field that is expanding daily motivated by many researchers interested in improving medical applications. In Brazil was started in 2005, in the State of Santa Catarina has a developed server called the CyclopsDCMServer, which the purpose to embrace the HDF for the manipulation of medical images (DICOM) using a distributed file system. Since then, many researches were initiated in order to seek better performance. Our approach for this server represents an additional parallel implementation in I/O operations since HDF version 5 has an essential feature for our work which supports parallel I/O, based upon the MPI paradigm. Early experiments using four parallel nodes, provide good performance when compare to the serial HDF implemented in the CyclopsDCMServer.
