iSplit LBI: Individualized partial ranking with ties via split LBI

Due to the inherent uncertainty of data, the problem of predicting partial ranking from pairwise comparison data with ties has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, in real-world scenarios, different individuals often hold distinct preferences. It might be misleading to merely look at a global partial ranking while ignoring personal diversity. In this paper, instead of learning a global ranking which is agreed with the consensus, we pursue the tie-aware partial ranking from an individualized perspective. Particularly, we formulate a unified framework which not only can be used for individualized partial ranking prediction, but also be helpful for abnormal user selection. This is realized by a variable splitting-based algorithm called iSplitLBI. Specifically, our algorithm generates a sequence of estimations with a regularization path, where both the hyperparameters and model parameters are updated. At each step of the path, the parameters can be decomposed into three orthogonal parts, namely, abnormal signals, personalized signals and random noise. The abnormal signals can serve the purpose of abnormal user selection, while the abnormal signals and personalized signals together are mainly responsible for individual partial ranking prediction. Extensive experiments on simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate that our new approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives. The purpose of this research is the development of 3-D Maps in the Government Complex of Bandung Regency to facilitate the people in Bandung Regency to find the location of official offices related to administrative needs. The research method used was qualitative and quantitative methods and there are several stages carried out in this study consisting of 4 stages. The first stage is data collection and analysis, software development, system testing and the last stage is drawing conclusions. The application built models the agency office and environment in 3D. The application built also has the closest route search feature using the Dijkstra algorithm. The results of this study are that the system also provides information relating to the agency office. Based on the results of user acceptance tests conducted on residents, more than 70% of the population agree that this 3D map makes it easy for residents to find the location of a building and determine the closest distance to that location. With this 3D Map, residents no longer need to worry if they get lost in the complex area of the Bandung Regency Government and can also quickly find the location of an official service office.

Consider a problem where 4k given vectors need to be partitioned into k clusters of four vectors each. A cluster of four vectors is called a quad, and the cost of a quad is the sum of the component-wise maxima of the four vectors in the quad. The problem is to partition the given 4k vectors into k quads with minimum total cost. We analyze a straightforward matching-based algorithm, and prove that this algorithm is a 23-approximation algorithm for this problem. We further analyze the performance of this algorithm on a hierarchy of special cases of the problem, and prove that, in one particular case, the algorithm is a 54-approximation algorithm. Mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSN) are resource constrained, and have limited energy and transmission range. Distributed collaborative beamforming (DCB) in MWSN based on a virtual node antenna array (VNAA) can increase the transmission distance and enhance energy efficiency of a single sensor node. To achieve a lower maximum sidelobe level (SLL), sensor nodes can move to optimal locations with optimal excitation currents for DCB. However, this leads to an extra motion energy consumption. In this paper, we construct a multi-objective optimization framework to jointly optimize the maximum SLL, the transmission power and the motion energy consumption of the DCB nodes in MWSN. Moreover, an improved non-dorminated sorting genetic algorithm-II (INSGA-II) is proposed for solving the optimization problem. Simulation results show that the maximum SLL, the transmission power and the motion energy consumption of the VNAA can be effectively optimized by the proposed algorithms.

PAC: A novel self-adaptive neuro-fuzzy controller for micro aerial vehicles

There exists an increasing demand for a flexible and computationally efficient controller for micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) due to a high degree of environmental perturbations. In this work, an evolving neuro-fuzzy controller, namely Parsimonious Controller (PAC) is proposed. It features fewer network parameters than conventional approaches due to the absence of rule premise parameters. PAC is built upon a recently developed evolving neuro-fuzzy system known as parsimonious learning machine (PALM) and adopts new rule growing and pruning modules derived from the approximation of bias and variance. These rule adaptation methods have no reliance on user-defined thresholds, thereby increasing the PAC's autonomy for real-time deployment. PAC adapts the consequent parameters with the sliding mode control (SMC) theory in the single-pass fashion. The boundedness and convergence of the closed-loop control system's tracking error and the controller's consequent parameters are confirmed by utilizing the LaSalle-Yoshizawa theorem. Lastly, the controller's efficacy is evaluated by observing various trajectory tracking performance from a bio-inspired flapping wing micro aerial vehicle (BI-FWMAV) and a rotary wing micro aerial vehicle called hexacopter. Furthermore, it is compared to three distinctive controllers. Our PAC outperforms the linear PID controller and feedforward neural network (FFNN) based nonlinear adaptive controller. Compared to its predecessor, G-controller, the tracking accuracy is comparable, but the PAC incurs significantly fewer parameters to attain similar or better performance than the G-controller. Deep learning (DL) architectures for super-resolution (SR) normally contain tremendous parameters, which has been regarded as the crucial advantage for obtaining satisfying performance. However, with the widespread use of mobile phones for taking and retouching photos, this character greatly hampers the deployment of DL-SR models on the mobile devices. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose a super lightweight SR network: s-LWSR. There are mainly three contributions in our work. Firstly, in order to efficiently abstract features from the low resolution image, we build an information pool to mix multi-level information from the first half part of the pipeline. Accordingly, the information pool feeds the second half part with the combination of hierarchical features from the previous layers. Secondly, we employ a compression module to further decrease the size of parameters. Intensive analysis confirms its capacity of trade-off between model complexity and accuracy. Thirdly, by revealing the specific role of activation in deep models, we remove several activation layers in our SR model to retain more information for performance improvement. Extensive experiments show that our s-LWSR, with limited parameters and operations, can achieve similar performance to other cumbersome DL-SR methods. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. This paper intends to design an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna for future Internet of Things (IoT) applications for off-body Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) communication. An antenna based on the Y-shaped patch fed using co-planar waveguide (CPW) line, with a full ground plane is designed. It is implemented on two different substrates, namely a 5mm thick Rogers RO4350B and a 5-mm-thick felt textile. Parametric analysis of antenna is performed by changing its critical dimensions and monitoring parameters such as gain, bandwidth, efficiency, radiation pattern when using both substrates. Besides that, the bending effects towards reflection coefficient and radiation patterns are also studied. The final patch size with the Y-shaped slot is 36 × 40 mm2 for both substrates. The antenna is capable of providing coverage for the bands from 8 to 10 GHz. Finally, the antenna designed on RO4350B substrate outperforms the antenna designed on felt by about four times in terms of bandwidth, with 3.3 GHz (7.7–11 GHz).

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting System (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. Enterprise engineering deals with the design of processes which aim to improve the structure and efficiency of business organizations. It develops approaches based on modeling techniques, particularly on business process modeling, to ensure the quality and the global consistency of enterprise strategies and expectations. Nowadays, risk consideration in enterprise engineering is a growing concern since the business environment is becoming more and more competitive, complex, and unpredictable. To face this concern, a paradigm named risk-aware business process management (R-BPM) has recently emerged. It seeks to integrate the two traditionally isolated fields of risk management and business process management. Despite the significant benefits that can arise from the use of R-BPM, it suffers from a lack of solid scientific foundations and dedicated tooling. This present research work contributes to bridging that gap in a twofold way: (i) by establishing the BPRIM business process-risk integrated method framework, and (ii) by designing a dedicated tool, named ADOBPRIM which supports the efficient application of the BPRIM framework. This paper first comprehensively presents the foundation of BPRIM which is based on three main components and, secondly, its dedicated tool ADOBPRIM which was designed using the ADOxx meta-modeling platform. An evaluation with a real case study in the health care domain shows the relevance of the methodological framework. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.
