The high efficiency of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) purely depends on the data collection scheme. Several data gathering schemes such as multipath, tree, chain, cluster and hybrid topologies are available in literature for gathering data in WSNs. However, the existing data gathering schemes failed to provide a guaranteed reliable network in terms of traffic, mobility, and end-to-end connection. Recent work shows sink mobility can increase the energy efficiency in WSNs. However, data delivery latency often increases owing to the speed limit of Mobile Sink. Most of them utilize the mobility, to address the problem of data gathering in WSNs. In this project, first define WSNs with Mobile Sink and provide an exhaustive taxonomy of their architectures, based on the role of MS. Then, present an overview of load balanced cluster and dual data uploading data gathering process in such a scenario, and recognize the corresponding challenges and issues. On the basis of these issues, Delay Aware Adaptive Multi Hop Routing Protocol called DAMHR is proposed, which is a heuristic method that locates a near-optimal traveling tour that minimizes the energy consumption of sensor nodes and improves the data gathering. Path selection problem is focused in load balanced clustering and delay-guaranteed sensor networks with a path-constrained mobile sink and concentrate on an efficient data gathering scheme, that simultaneously increases the total amount of data and reduces the energy consumption. The optimal path is preferred to meet the necessary on delay as well as minimizes the energy consumption of entire network. Predictable sink mobility is demoralized to improve energy efficiency of sensor networks.

Research in multi-document summarization has focused on newswire corpora since the early beginnings. However, the newswire genre provides genre-specific features such as sentence position which are easy to exploit in summarization systems. Such easy to exploit genre-specific features are available in other genres as well. We therefore present the new AMDS corpus for multi-document summarization, which contains heterogeneous source documents from multiple text genres, as well as summaries with different lengths. For the construction of the corpus, we developed a novel construction approach which is suited to build large and heterogeneous summarization corpora with little effort. The method reverses the usual process of writing summaries for given source documents: it combines already available summaries with appropriate source documents. In a detailed analysis, we show that our new corpus is significantly different from the homogeneous corpora commonly used, and that it is heterogeneous along several dimensions. Our experimental evaluation using well-known state-of-the-art summarization systems shows that our corpus poses new challenges in the field of multi-document summarization. We consider an offline car-sharing assignment problem with flexible drop-offs, in which n users (customers) present their driving demands, and the system aims to assign the cars, initially located at given locations, to maximize the number of satisfied users. Each driving demand specifies the pick-up location and the drop-off location, as well as the time interval in which the car will be used. If a user requests several driving demands, then she is satisfied only if all her demands are fulfilled. We show that minimizing the number of vehicles that are needed to fulfill all demands is solvable in polynomial time. If every user has exactly one demand, we show that for given number of cars at locations, maximizing the number of satisfied users is also solvable in polynomial time. We then study the problem with two locations A and B, and where every user has two demands: one demand for transfer from A to B, and one demand for transfer from B to A, not necessarily in this order. We show that maximizing the number of satisfied users is NP-hard, and even APX-hard, even if all the transfers take exactly the same (non-zero) time. On the other hand, if all the transfers are instantaneous, the problem is again solvable in polynomial time. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2016.

Chinese medicine prescription, being one of the mainstream medical method in traditional Chinese medicine, always contains complex complicated relationship between drugs which are hard to extract manually. However, with the rise of data-mining technology, it is more possible to finish such tasks intelligently with large scale text data. In order to discover the relationship between drugs, the relevance of prescription as well as attributes of drugs were quantified to establish the network model, then the state-of-art technologies in graph mining were utilized to study the matching rules of drugs in a specific prescription. Experiment results shows that our method could simulate results that are similar with the theoretical ones in traditional Chinese medicine and could be regarded as potential approach for automatic drug matching.

There has been a growing interest in Health Informatics applications, research, and education within the Middle East and North African Region over the past twenty years. People of this region share similar cultural and religious values, primarily speak the Arabic language, and have similar health care related issues, which are in dire need of being addressed. Health Informatics efforts, organizations, and initiatives within the region have been largely under-represented within, but not ignored by, the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). Attempts to create bonds and collaboration between the different organizations of the region have remained scattered, and often, resulted in failure despite the fact that the need for a united health informatics collaborative within the region has never been more crucial than today. During the 2017 MEDINFO, held in Hangzhou, China, a new organization, the Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association (MENAHIA) was conceived as a regional non-governmental organization to promote and facilitate health informatics uptake within the region endorsing health informatics research and educational initiatives of the 22 countries represented within the region. This paper provides an overview of the collaboration and efforts to date in forming MENAHIA and displays the variety of initiatives that are already occurring within the MENAHIA region, which MENAHIA will help, endorse, support, share, and improve within the international forum of health informatics.

Recent years have seen an impressive development and diffusion of web applications to food domains, e.g., Yelp, TripAdvisors. These mainly exploit text for searching and retrieving food facilities, e.g., restaurants, caffe, pizzerias. The main features of such applications are: The location and quality of the facilities, where quality is extrapolated by the users' reviews. More recent options also enable search based on restaurant categorization, e.g., Japanese, Italian, Mexican. In this work, we introduce Appetitoso1, an innovative approach for finding restaurants based on the dishes a user would like to taste rather than using the name of food facilities or their general categories.

Systems approach to concentrated solar power (CSP) technology adoption in South Africa

To meet its future energy demand, the government of South Africa set up an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) with the primary objective of determining its long-term electricity demand, and indicating how this demand should be met, in terms of generation type and timing. The IRP in 2010 presented the favoured energy generation techniques in SA, and it allocated 17 800 MW (42%) of the total energy mix in 2030 to renewable energy technologies (RETs). To achieve this target, the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REI4P) was launched and wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) have been favoured mostly in the bids rolled out thus far. South Africa has been identified as one of the world’s best destinations for CSP because of the available solar resources, and a total of 600 MW of CSP had been purchased in the REIPPPP bids. However, the IRP update of 2016 threw CSP out of the future energy plans, when it gave no share to new electricity generation from it beyond 2030. This has created growing uncertainty of the future of CSP in South Africa. There is therefore an urgent need for collective efforts to present a broad and detailed value proposition in terms of present and prospects of CSP, and how it can be developed and deployed in the country to foster a lower tariff, encourage adoption, and ensure its return to the IRP. The study presented in this paper used a system dynamics approach to analyse the unique, critical and complex factors that affect the deployment of CSP in South Africa, as identified by concerned policy-makers, CSP experts, and existing studies. The result from this study shows that improved support for research is the most effective way to open new methods and ways in which the CSP technologies can be deployed, which will foster further CSP adoption in South Africa.

Large-scale annotated metabolic databases, such as KEGG and MetaCyc, provide a wealth of information to researchers designing novel biosynthetic pathways. However, many metabolic pathfinding tools that assist in identifying possible solution pathways fail to facilitate the grouping and interpretation of these pathway results. Clustering possible solution pathways can help users of pathfinding tools quickly identify major patterns and unique pathways without having to sift through individual results one by one. In this paper, we assess the ability of three separate clustering methods (hierarchical, k-means, and k-medoids) along with three pair-wise distance measures (Levenshtein, Jaccard, and n-gram) to expertly group lysine, isoleucine, and 3-hydroxypropanoic acid (3-HP) biosynthesis pathways. The quality of the resulting clusters were quantitatively evaluated against expected pathway groupings taken from the literature. Hierarchical clustering and Levenshtein distance seemed to best match external pathway labels across the three biosynthesis pathways. The lysine biosynthesis pathways, which had the most distinct separation of pathways, had better quality clusters than isoleucine and 3-HP, suggesting that grouping pathways with more complex underlying topologies may require more tailored clustering methods. Social curation services are emerging social media platforms that enable users to curate their contents according to the topic and express their interests at the topic level by following curated collections of other users' contents rather than the users themselves. The topic-level information revealed through this new feature far exceeds what existing methods solicit from the traditional social networking services, to greatly enhance the quality of topic-sensitive influence modeling. In this paper, we propose a novel model called the topical influence with social curation (TISC) to find influential users from social curation services. This model, formulated by the continuous conditional random field, fully takes advantage of the explicitly available topic-level information reflected in both contents and interactions. In order to validate its merits, we comprehensively compare TISC with state-of-the-art models using two real-world data sets collected from Pinterest and ***. The results show that TISC achieves higher accuracy by up to around 80% and finds more convincing results in case studies than the other models. Moreover, we develop a distributed learning algorithm on Spark and demonstrate its excellent scalability on a cluster of 48 cores.
