Recently, global photovoltaic (PV) system installations have surged. Precise forecasting is vital for their grid integration and carbon emission cuts. However, due to fluctuating solar radiation, predicting PV output is difficult. Machine learning models, notably Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, offer a solution. This study presents a novel framework using a boosted recursive Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM)-LSTM network to forecast daily PV output at hourly intervals. Conducted in Northern Europe—a region with significant solar radiation variability—the models trained on meteorological and historical data showed a 12% improvement in RMSE, a 13% reduction in MAPE, and a 5% increase in the R2 score compared to standalone LSTM models. © 2023 IEEE.

Kazakhstan's deputy member is vast, and is one of sparse population, scattering and creating an overwhelming challenge to map and assess the water resources. Most of the waters are in remote and poorly equipped areas, making their monitoring by conventional means arduous. This includes costly and inefficient monitoring that results in a blurred condition of the water resources. Such a predicament stands in the way of effective management and decision-making regarding water resources. Therefore, we used Sentinel-3 satellite images to assess the spatiotemporal dynamics of water resources in Kazakhstan and obtained the results through GIS analysis. The main case of the region for case studies reflecting problems in the management of water resources in the country is the northern part of the Aral Sea. It presents a study characterized by in-depth data analysis and mapping that provided insight into the spatial trends of water resources, their variability, and potential areas of concern. The present research found that GIS and remote sensing technologies have emerged as a strong water resource observation platform. They show promise in the resource sector decision support. The development thus justifies the integration of these technology tools within the water resource management practices to ensure sustainable water use in Kazakhstan. The publication has equally availed a model for similarly water-stressed regions regarding technology-driven solutions in matters of environmental sustainability and resource management.

In the context of small software development teams, this research article gives a thorough investigation of the adoption of test-driven development (TDD) approaches. It aims to highlight the benefits that TDD offers, such as improved code quality through modularization and proactive defect spotting which results in effective debugging and development processes. It also discusses the complex issues that arise when TDD is implemented in smaller teams, such as the learning curve and resource constraints. This study significantly advances the understanding of how TDD can be used to optimize software development techniques in organizations or software houses having small development teams. It also explores the possible advantages and challenges.

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) enable many applications for photovoltaic (PV) equipped nano-grids. Stored excessive energy is utilized for energy arbitrage, demand response during blackouts, and peak shaving. This technology helped utility service providers deal with the duck-curve-effect and intermittency of renewable energy systems. In this paper, we investigate the benefits of using energy storage systems in PV nano-grids for residential sectors and evaluate the relationship between battery presence and system performance. We also analyze the effects of battery degradation on energy independence and self-sufficiency and investigate the relationship between simple payback time and state of health (SoH) levels of nano-grid components. Additionally, we propose a simple rule-based energy supervision strategy and evaluate its performance under various forecasting error levels, highlighting the importance of high-performance forecasting methods for proper energy management systems. Our contributions will help select and optimize PV-battery solutions and energy management algorithms to achieve the highest benefit and minimize investment risks. © 2023 IEEE.

Real-time surface analysis is becoming increasingly important in various fields, including industry, medicine, and transportation. This article examines the problem of remote monitoring of surface texture in real time. The authors review the methods and techniques used for this task, focusing on high-precision technologies such as computer vision, laser scanning, and image processing techniques. The paper examines the importance of this real-time approach to support accurate and rapid decisions in industrial processes and medical diagnostics. The authors propose a method for detecting texture artifacts with machine learning and analyze the performance and quality of possible variations of its application. Based on the discussion, the authors draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness and prospects of the proposed approach in real-time remote monitoring of surface textures. The environment surrounds our daily lives, whether we want to or not. When we have a clean environment, we can enjoy very healthy lifestyles. However, when we have dirty environments, it can cause a myriad of diseases, health risks, and worse, global pandemics like plagues. This became very apparent during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic when we had to sanitize our hands on an hourly basis after touching suspicious items that might have had human contact. This study entails a way to keep our environment clean by picking up trash and items that are left on the floor by other people. A smart robot that uses artificial intelligence to be able to not only move around and understand its surroundings, but also know if there is an object that is identified as trash and needs to be removed from that area. The smart robot is fitted with a high-definition camera for object detection and can see them from 3–4 m. From the image, it will scan the angle direction of the object, change its course, and follow it. After reaching the said location, it will begin its procedure of picking up and storing it in its trash compartment. The robot can be tuned to only clean a certain area and not cross its boundary by comparing fingerprints of registered Wi-Fi RSSIs. This method is most accurate for indoor boundary setting. For outdoors, a GPS method is available to track and bind the robot within a map circumference. Finally, all these metrics and location services can be viewed on a custom-made mobile application that complements the robot's features. What ties all this together is a cloud-based server that feeds the app data from the robot and stores it for future review. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

As one of Chinese minority languages,Tibetan speech recognition technology was not researched upon as extensively as Chinese and English were until ***,along with the relatively small Tibetan corpus,has resulted in an unsatisfying performance of Tibetan speech recognition based on an end-to-end *** paper aims to achieve an accurate Tibetan speech recognition using a small amount of Tibetan training *** demonstrate effective methods of Tibetan end-to-end speech recognition via cross-language transfer learning from three aspects:modeling unit selection,transfer learning method,and source language *** results show that the Chinese-Tibetan multi-language learning method using multilanguage character set as the modeling unit yields the best performance on Tibetan Character Error Rate(CER)at 27.3%,which is reduced by 26.1%compared to the language-specific *** our method also achieves the 2.2%higher accuracy using less amount of data compared with the method using Tibetan multi-dialect transfer learning under the same model structure and data set.

Drought is an environmental and economic problem. Sustainable ecosystems, water resources, food security, and ecosystem sustainability. Machine all are severely affected by drought. Due to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts caused by climate change. Effective drought modeling is crucial for early warning systems and risk mitigation. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques have been developed as potential drought modeling tools, which offer accurate and reliable drought detection. This review paper summarizes the drought modeling(Drought Prediction, Drought Detection and Drought Forecasting) approaches. This paper focuses on three main aspect. 1) The selection of the region for this study, for this study South Asia(SA) is selected as region of interest (ROI) that offer accurate drought modeling, providing policymakers and decision-makers with insightful information. The geographical scope of this study is the region of South Asia. This region is selected because of its heavy reliance on agriculture. 2) This paper focuses on the current and future trends, challenges, and advances of and vulnerability to droughts. The review offers a thorough grasp of how drought conditions are evaluated by gathering and analyzing the most important drought indicators and metrics specific to South Asia. The paper explores the current state-of-the-art in ML and DL for drought modeling. 3) This review encapsulates the indicator and metrics (Complex Machine learning and deep learning models) for drought modeling which are most relevant to the SA region. This study sum up as most common challenges in drought modeling are, highlighting current challenges such as incomplete and inconsistent datasets, lack of explainable and interpretable models, and unavailability of data for model uncertainty analysis. Recently,multimodal multiobjective optimization problems(MMOPs)have received increasing *** goal is to find a Pareto front and as many equivalent Pareto optimal solutions as *** some evolutionary algorithms for them have been proposed,they mainly focus on the convergence rate in the decision space while ignoring solutions *** this paper,we propose a new multiobjective fireworks algorithm for them,which is able to balance exploitation and exploration in the decision *** first extend a latest single-objective fireworks algorithm to handle *** we make improvements by incorporating an adaptive strategy and special archive guidance into it,where special archives are established for each firework,and two strategies(i.e.,explosion and random strategies)are adaptively selected to update the positions of sparks generated by fireworks with the guidance of special ***,we compare the proposed algorithm with eight state-of-the-art multimodal multiobjective algorithms on all 22 MMOPs from CEC2019 and several imbalanced distance minimization *** results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to compared algorithms in solving ***,its runtime is less than its peers'.
