We propose an improved iris recognition method for person identification using an iris segmentation approach based on chain code and zigzag collarette area with support vector machine (SVM). The zigzag collarette area is selected as a personal identification pattern which captures only the most important areas of iris complex pattern and better recognition accuracy is achieved. The idea to use the zigzag collarette area is that it is insensitive to the pupil dilation and usually not affected by eyelids or eyelashes. The deterministic feature sequence is extracted from iris images using Gabor wavelet technique and used to train SVM as iris classifiers. The traditional SVM is modified as asymmetrical SVM to treat False Accept and False Reject differently to satisfy several security requirements. The parameters of SVM are tuned to improve overall system performance. Our experimental results also indicate that the performance of SVM as a classifier is far better than the performance of backpropagation neural network (BPNN), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), Hamming and Mahalanobis distance. The proposed innovative technique is computationally effective as well as reliable in term of recognition rate of 99.56%.

Taking advantage of the Grid workflow, scientists and engineers are building more and more complex decision support applications to process large data sets, and coordinate scheduling distributed decision resources. Such decision resource scheduling processes require means for composing and executing complex workflows. Therefore, many efforts have been made towards the development of workflow scheduling systems for decision resource coordinate scheduling on Grid environment. In this paper, we investigates the emerging need for Grid workflow to aid decision support on the Grid and proposes a Grid workflow for decision resource scheduling that is a Petri net-based graph model and incorporates a reasoning system designed to perform such a task. It effectively hides the heterogeneity of decision resources with good intelligence, scalability and adaptability.

Nowadays there are vocabularies or languages able to describe concepts and data structures related to road traffic. Nevertheless, this description provides only a syntactic approach and it forgot the semantic knowledge. There not exist vocabularies or ontologies with semantic value that add significance to the vocabulary concepts and their relations. The objective to be reached of this paper is to present the research developed to build a representation scheme of a particular domain: the road traffic, with a well defined semantics. Hardware/software (HW-SW) partitioning is a key problem in codesign of embedded systems, studied extensively in the past. This paper describes a new approach to hardware/software partitioning for synchronous model. We formalize the partitioning problem using timed automata, which captures the key elements of the partitioning. Then the tabu algorithm is applied to timed automata model to search for the solution efficiently. Data replication is one of the key components in data grid architecture as it enhances data access and reliability and minimises the cost of data transmission. In this paper, we address the problem of reducing the overheads of the replication mechanisms that drive the data management components of a data grid. We propose an approach that extends the resource broker with policies that factor in user quality of service as well as service costs when replicating and transferring data. A realistic model of the data grid was created to simulate and explore the performance of the proposed policy. The policy displayed an effective means of improving the performance of the grid network traffic and is indicated by the improvement of speed and cost of transfers by brokers.
