The Internet of Things (IoT) revolutionizes smart city domains such as healthcare, transportation, industry, and education. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is gaining prominence, particularly in smart hospitals and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). The vast volume of data generated by IoMT devices should be analyzed in real-time for health surveillance, prognosis, and prediction of diseases. Current approaches relying on Cloud computing to provide the necessary computing and storage capabilities do not scale for these latency-sensitive applications. Edge computing emerges as a solution by bringing cloud services closer to IoMT devices. This paper introduces SmartEdge, an AI-powered smart healthcare end-to-end integrated edge and cloud computing system for diabetes prediction. This work addresses latency concerns and demonstrates the efficacy of edge resources in healthcare applications within an end-to-end system. The system leverages various risk factors for diabetes prediction. We propose an Edge and Cloud-enabled framework to deploy the proposed diabetes prediction models on various configurations using edge nodes and main cloud servers. Performance metrics are evaluated using, latency, accuracy, and response time. By using ensemble machine learning voting algorithms we can improve the prediction accuracy by 5% versus a single model prediction.

Blockchain technology has piqued the interest of businesses of all types, while consistently improving and adapting to business requirements. Several blockchain platforms have emerged, making it challenging to select a suitable one for a specific type of business. This paper presents a classification of over one hundred blockchain platforms. We develop smart contracts for detecting healthcare insurance frauds using the top two blockchain platforms selected based on our proposed decision-making map approach which selects the top suitable platforms for healthcare insurance frauds detection application. Our classification shows that the largest percentage of platforms can be used for all types of application domains, the second biggest percentage for financial services, and a small number is to develop applications in specific domains. Our decision-making map and performance evaluations reveal that Hyperledger Fabric surpassed Neo in all metrics for detecting healthcare insurance frauds.

Analytical research on a distinct form of malware otherwise known as crypto-ransomware was studied in this current research. Recent incidents around the globe indicate crypto-ransomware has been an increasing threat due to its nature of encrypting victims, targeted information and keeping the decryption key in the deep Web until a reasonable sum of ransom is paid, usually by cryptocurrency. In addition, current intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are not accurate enough to evade attacks with intelligently written crypto-ransomware features such as polymorphic, environment mapping, and partially encrypting files or saturating the system with low entropy file write operations in order to produce a lower encryption footprint, which can cause inability toward the intrusion detection system (IDS) to detect malicious crypto-ransomware activity. This research has explored diverse data preprocessing technique to depict crypto-ransomware as images. In effort to classify crypto-ransomware images, this research will utilize the existing neural network methods to train a classifier to classify new crypto-ransomware files into their family classes. In a broader context, the concept for this research is to create a crypto-ransomware early detection approach. Nevertheless, the primary contribution is the proof of baselining horizontal feature simplification concept, whereby it provides an accurate real-time detection rate for crypto-ransomware with less system load toward the user device. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Team-based capstone courses are integral to many undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in the computing field. They are designed to help students gain hands-on experience and practice professional skills such as communication, teamwork, and self-reflection as they transition into the real world. Prior research on capstone courses has focused primarily on the experiences of students. The perspectives of instructors who teach capstone courses have not been explored comprehensively. However, an instructor's experience, motivation, and expectancy can have a significant impact on the quality of a capstone course. In this working group, we used a mixed methods approach to understand the experiences of capstone instructors. Issues such as class size, industry partnerships, managing student conflicts, and factors influencing instructor motivation were examined using a quantitative survey and semi-structured interviews with capstone teaching staff from multiple institutions across different continents. Our findings show that there are more similarities than differences across various capstone course structures. Similarities include team size, team formation methodologies, duration of the capstone course, and project sourcing. Differences in capstone courses include class sizes and institutional support. Some instructors felt that capstone courses require more time and effort than regular lecture-based courses. These instructors cited that the additional time and effort is related to class size and liaising with external stakeholders, including industry partners. Some instructors felt that their contributions were not recognized enough by the leadership at their institutions. Others acknowledged institutional support and the value that the capstone brought to their department. Android applications are getting bigger with an increasing number of features. However, not all the features are needed by a specific user. The unnecessary features can increase the attack surface and cost additional resources (e.g., storage and memory). Therefore, it is important to remove unnecessary features from Android applications. However, it is difficult for the end users to fully explore the apps to identify the unnecessary features, and there is no off-the-shelf tool available to assist users to debloat the apps by themselves. In this work, we propose AutoDebloater to debloat Android applications automatically for end users. AutoDebloater is a web application that can be accessed by end-users through a web browser. In particular, AutoDebloater can automatically explore an app and identify the transitions between activities. Then, AutoDebloater will present the Activity Transition Graph to users and ask them to select the activities they do not want to keep. Finally, AutoDebloater will remove the activities that are selected by users from the app. We conducted a user study on five Android apps downloaded from three categories (i.e., Finance, Tools, and Navigation) in Google Play and F-Droid. The results show that users are satisfied with AutoDebloater in terms of the stability of the debloated apps and the ability of AutoDebloater to identify features that are never noticed before. Choosing an appropriate optimization algorithm is essential to achieving success in optimization challenges. Here we present a new evolutionary algorithm structure that utilizes a reinforcement learning-based agent aimed at addressing these issues. The agent employs a double deep q-network to choose a specific evolutionary operator based on feedback it receives from the environment during optimization. The algorithm’s structure contains five single-objective evolutionary algorithm operators. This single-objective structure is transformed into a multi-objective one using the R2 indicator. This indicator serves two purposes within our structure: first, it renders the algorithm multi-objective, and second, provides a means to evaluate each algorithm’s performance in each generation to facilitate constructing the reinforcement learning-based reward function. The proposed R2-reinforcement learning multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (R2-RLMOEA) is compared with six other multiobjective algorithms that are based on R2 indicators. These six algorithms include the operators used in R2-RLMOEA as well as an R2 indicator-based algorithm that randomly selects operators during optimization. We benchmark performance using the CEC09 functions, with performance measured by inverted generational distance and spacing. A cataract is one of the most significant eye problems worldwide that does not immediately impair vision and progressively worsens over *** cataract prediction based on various imaging technologies has been addressed recently,such as smartphone apps used for remote health monitoring and eye *** recent years,advances in diagnosis,prediction,and clinical decision support using Artificial Intelligence(AI)in medicine and ophthalmology have been *** to privacy concerns,a lack of data makes applying artificial intelligence models in the medical field *** address this issue,a federated learning framework named CDFL based on a VGG16 deep neural network model is proposed in this *** study collects data from the Ocular Disease Intelligent Recognition(ODIR)database containing 5,000 patient *** significant features are extracted and normalized using the min-max normalization *** the federated learning-based technique,the VGG16 model is trained on the dataset individually after receiving model updates from two *** transferring the attributes to the global model,the suggested method trains the local *** global model subsequently improves the technique after integrating the new *** client analyses the results in three rounds to decrease the over-fitting *** experimental result shows the effectiveness of the federated learning-based technique on a Deep Neural Network(DNN),reaching a 95.28%accuracy while also providing privacy to the patient’s *** experiment demonstrated that the suggested federated learning model outperforms other traditional methods,achieving client 1 accuracy of 95.0%and client 2 accuracy of 96.0%.

In recent years, support vector machine has become one of the most important classification techniques in pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining due to its superior classification effect and solid theoretical base. However, its training time will increase dramatically as the number of samples increases, and training will become more sophisticated when dealing with problems involving multiple classifications. A quick training data reduction approach MOIS appropriate for multi-classification tasks is presented as a solution for the aforementioned issues. While eliminating redundant training samples, the boundary samples that play a vital role are chosen in order to considerably reduce training data and the problem of unequal distribution between categories. The experimental results demonstrate that MOIS may maintain or even improve the classification performance of support vector machines while substantially enhancing training efficiency. On the Opt digit dataset, the suggested method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%, while training time is reduced to 15% of the original;in HCL2000, the proposed method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%. When the accuracy rate is marginally increased (from 99.29% to 99.30%) on the first 100 categories dataset, the training time is dramatically reduced to less than 6% of the original. Cloud Platforms are heterogeneous, and users may face interoperability issues migrating applications or exchanging data among distinct clouds due, for instance, to the lack of standards solutions. Several solutions have been proposed to overcome lock-in situations, and middleware platforms are one of them. A semantic interoperability solution named middleware for Data as a Service (DaaS)/Database as a Service (DBaaS) and software as a Service (SaaS)—MIDAS has been developed to overcome this lock-in issue. It is an intermediate communication layer to retrieve data from DaaS or DBaaS through a Structured Query Language (SQL) or a Not Only SQL (NoSQL) created at the SaaS level. MIDAS is a platform for software execution, but software development needs support for its entire life cycle. Therefore, we propose the Model drIven Approach for MIDAS (MIAMI), which enables the specification of platform-independent middleware models and their use to generate code on different cloud platforms. MIAMI comprises a Domain-Specific Modeling Language (DSML) that enables middleware models and a transformation specification, which defines how these models can be converted to code. MIAMI offers a strategy for MIDAS specification and code generation phases to help middleware developers’ activities. MIAMI was applied to code generation specifications in Cloud Foundry, Amazon Web Services, OpenShift, and Heroku providers to evaluate our approach. Joint safety and security analysis of cyber-physical systems is a necessary step to correctly capture inter-dependencies between these properties. Attack-Fault Trees represent a combination of dynamic Fault Trees and Attack Trees and can be used to model and model-check a holistic view on both safety and security. Manually creating a complete AFT for the whole system is, however, a daunting task. It needs to span multiple abstraction layers, e.g., abstract application architecture and data flow as well as system and library dependencies that are affected by various vulnerabilities. We present an AFT generation tool-chain that facilitates this task using partial Fault and Attack Trees that are either manually created or mined from vulnerability databases. We semi-automatically create two system models that provide the necessary information to automatically combine these partial Fault and Attack Trees into complete AFTs using graph transformation rules. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
