Discerning truth from deception requires innovative tools in an era besieged by misinformation. Fake news is a form of misleading information delivered as reliable news. It is mainly made up of intentionally manipulating public opinion, decision bias, and exploiting general credulity. Various supervised learning-based fake news detection and classifications only focus on the semantic values due to their subjectivity in the current context. Sentiment analysis is also a common interpretation mechanism of information mining. This research explores the role of sentiment analysis in the context of fake news detection. Sentiment analysis, a facet of natural language processing, delves into the nuanced sentiments within the text, unveiling hidden narratives and differentiating between authentic reporting and carefully crafted deception. The study employs various sentiment reasoning models, including VADER, TextBlob, and Roberta, focusing on comparative analysis. The VADER model, complemented by a Bag of Words approach, emerges as the most effective, outperforming, compared to TextBlob and RoBERTa. Especially BERT sentiment reasoner model underperformed with uneven distribution in this fake news domain. The best VADER sentiments are taken for the transitions of sequential neural network architectures such as Simple Neural Network (SNN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) featuring Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The LSTM model captures intricate patterns, dependencies, and contextual information. Evaluation metrics, encompassing accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, provide a comprehensive understanding of models' performance. The RNN LSTM performed well compared to the other sequential models. Disinformation is one of the main problems of today’s society, and specifically the viralization of fake news. This research presents ELAINE, a hybrid proposal to detect the veracity of news items that combines content reliability information with external evidence. The external evidence is extracted from a scientific knowledge base that contains medical information associated with coronavirus, organized in a knowledge graph created from a CORD-19 corpus. The information is accessed using Natural Language Question Answering and a set of evidences are extracted and their relevance measured. By combining both reliability and evidence information, the veracity of the news items can be predicted, improving both accuracy and F1 compared with using only reliability information. These results prove that the approach presented is very promising for the veracity detection task. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

In this modern era, traffic congestion has become a major source of negative economic and environmental impact for urban areas worldwide. One of the most efficient ways to mitigate this issue is through traffic prediction. This research field has evolved greatly ever since its inception in the late 70s. Recently, deep neural network models have gained popularity thanks to its predictive power, but despite this, literature surveys of such methods are rare;making it difficult to ascertain the progress of this research field. In this work, we address this issue by presenting an up-to-date survey of deep neural network for traffic prediction. We provide detailed explanations of popular deep neural network architectures used in the traffic flow prediction literatures, categorize and describe the literatures themselves, present an overview of the commonalities and differences among different works, and finally provide a discussion regarding the challenges and future directions for this field. © 2023 IEEE.

A transhumeral prosthesis restores missing anatomical segments below the shoulder, including the hand. Active prostheses utilize real-valued, continuous sensor data to recognize patient target poses, or goals, and proactively move the artificial limb. Previous studies have examined how well the data collected in stationary poses, without considering the time steps, can help discriminate the goals. In this case study paper, we focus on using time series data from surface electromyography electrodes and kinematic sensors to sequentially recognize patients' goals. Our approach involves transforming the data into discrete events and training an existing process mining-based goal recognition system. Results from data collected in a virtual reality setting with ten subjects demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed goal recognition approach, which achieves significantly better precision and recall than the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and is less confident when wrong, which is beneficial when approximating smoother movements of prostheses. © 2023 IEEE.

Frequently, individuals undergo specific episodes of mental health challenges throughout their lifetime. But the COVID pandemic has triggered a surge in mental health disorders arising from isolation, monotonous routines, demanding workloads, financial disparities, and disruptions to daily schedules. Furthermore, the global pandemic has induced constant anxiety and stress. Beyond the pandemic, the competition and intense pressure of the modern world impact mental health. Access to advanced mental health solutions and the necessary familiarity remain limited for most of the population. Given the integration of technology into daily life, diverse remedies, including mobile and web applications, have emerged to tackle the escalating challenge of mental health disorders. This study proposes an accessible and cost-effective approach that employs machine learning to detect stress levels and discern user emotions from journal entries and facial expressions while integrating self-journaling, video recommendations, and visual content generation to stimulate positive emotions and relieve stress. © 2023 IEEE.

Neural network-based Music Genre Classification is a key component in helping users narrow down the selection of songs and listen to music in a certain genre. Audio segmentation has been done as a preprocessing step on the available audio files using the benchmark dataset “GTZAN”. To improve accuracy, audio segmentation divides a 30-s audio recording into ten 3-s audio files. Segments are utilized to create spectrograms, which are then used to extract features. A spectrogram is a visual depiction of a signal’s frequency band. Applying techniques like magphase and Short Time Fourier Transform to the audio data enhances the quality of the spectrograms. Adaptive Moment estimation, Nesterov-accelerated Adaptive Moment estimation (NADAM), Adaptive Moment estimation with Maximum, and Root Mean Squared Propagation are among the optimization techniques used for feature weight optimization to increase the classification rate. NADAM is found to be effective based on performance measures. The proposed GenreNet model is compared with the state-of-art techniques and performance measures such as Accuracy, Precision, Recall, Root Mean Square Error, F1 Score, Loss and Sensitivity have yielded positive results. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive network applications, such as video streaming, multimedia, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, necessitates improved resource management to protect the network without compromising Quality of Service (QoS). Meeting these challenges requires a centralized view of all available network resources. software Defined Networking (SDN), an emerging technology, provides a centralized view and control of network resources. This feature enables administrators to programmatically define and manage network behavior, including routing, making it more flexible and adaptable. This study proposes a QoS-aware routing scheme for SDN that considers available bandwidth, packet delay, and packet loss to determine the optimal routing path. Optimal paths are selected based on meeting predefined threshold criteria. The study concludes by discussing potential directions for future research in this field. © 2023 IEEE.
