Social media networks play a major role in expressing people's feelings, reviews, and thoughts. One of the popular linguistic patterns to express or criticize one's ideas with ridicule is sarcasm, where they have unintended and intended meanings in written text. The sarcastic text is used to reverse the polarity of the sentiment. As a result, sarcasm detection in the text positively affects the sentimental analysis (SA) tasks and improves accuracy. The sarcasm recognition of Arabic content is constrained even though Arabic is the most popular language for web content sharing, and yet still naive owing to various challenges, such as the insufficient data sources, the multiple dialects, and the morphological structure of the Arabic language. This study presents an Artificial Intelligence Driven Sarcasm Detection using Optimal Deep Learning (AIDSD-ODL) technique on Arabic tweets. In the AIDSD-ODL technique, a hyperparameter-tuned DL model is utilized to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic Arabic tweets. At the initial stage, the AIDSD-ODL method undergoes data pre-processing to convert the input tweets into a compatible format. In the next phase, the Glove word embedding process is used in the AIDSD-ODL technique. The self-attention bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) model is utilized for sarcasm detection. The Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) model is implemented for the hyperparameter selection process to enhance the performance of the SA-BiLSTM network. The experimental results of the AIDSD-ODL method are examined under the Arabic tweets dataset. The comparison study of the AIDSD-ODL method portrayed a superior accuracy value of 94.20 % over existing models. © 2025 The Authors

Various deep learning techniques have been employed to diagnose dental caries using X-ray images. In this study, we utilized deep learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning models such as Visual Geometry Group (VGG16), VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3, to identify dental caries in periapical radiographs. The traditional CNN model comprises three sets of 2D convolutional layers, followed by an activation layer, a max-pooling layer, a flatten layer, one dense layer, another activation layer, dropout, another dense layer, and a final activation layer. For the VGG models, ResNet50, and Inception V3, the top convolutional layers were frozen to prevent retraining of the model, with only the last layers trained to produce the required output. The accuracy achieved by CNN, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3 was 90%, 96%, 73%, 70%, and 73%, respectively. VGG16 exhibited the highest accuracy among the models. Hyperparameters were carefully selected using a grid search approach, and the results were validated using the Shuffle-Split-Cross (SSC) validation method. These findings underscore the effectiveness of transfer learning in analyzing medical images, particularly in the diagnosis of dental caries. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The significant problem in the area of sustainable development is the effective management of water resources. There are a number of approaches for resolving this issue in the literature, particularly in the agricultural sector, which serves as the primary consumer through irrigation. As a result, irrigation management is a crucial and cutting-edge discipline that has been the focus of several research and study projects to address the various activities, behaviors, and conflicts between the various users. This paper introduces an intelligent irrigation system based on smart sensors that can be used sparingly and affordably to monitor farms. By incorporating some connected electronic devices and other useful tools frequently used in the field of IoT, it calculates the water requirement of each farm based on the water loss caused by the process of evapotranspiration. Data gathered from a number of sensors placed across the plantation farm are used to determine the amount of water needed. It may be utilized by farmer organizations whose endowments and irrigation planning are determined according to the requirement and quantity of water available in the rural municipality. This project focuses on smart irrigation based on IoT. Each node in the system functions as an IoT device and incorporates a microprocessor with the integration of sensors, actuators, and valve modules. An irrigation management system simplifies the operation of each node and configuration settings for irrigation allow for the direct monitoring of environmental factors. The Penman model is used to get the daily evapotranspiration baseline and is used to calculate the quantity of water needed for irrigation. The suggested irrigation approach is anticipated to help reduce water usage and distribute it fairly without affecting crop productivity compared to the traditional irrigation system.

Supporting Developers in Addressing Human-centric Issues in Mobile Apps

Failure to consider the characteristics, limitations, and abilities of diverse end-users during mobile app development may lead to problems for end-users, such as accessibility and usability issues. We refer to this class of problems as human-centric issues. Despite their importance, there is a limited understanding of the types of human-centric issues that are encountered by end-users and taken into account by the developers of mobile apps. In this paper, we examine what human-centric issues end-users report through Google App Store reviews, what human-centric issues are a topic of discussion for developers on GitHub, and whether end-users and developers discuss the same human-centric issues. We then investigate whether an automated tool might help detect such human-centric issues and whether developers would find such a tool useful. To do this, we conducted an empirical study by extracting and manually analysing a random sample of 1,200 app reviews and 1,200 issue comments from 12 diverse projects that exist on both Google App Store and GitHub. Our analysis led to a taxonomy of human-centric issues that characterises human-centric issues into three-high level categories: App Usage, Inclusiveness, and User Reaction. We then developed machine learning and deep learning models that are promising in automatically identifying and classifying human-centric issues from app reviews and developer discussions. A survey of mobile app developers shows that the automated detection of human-centric issues has practical applications. Guided by our findings, we highlight some implications and possible future work to further understand and better incorporate addressing human-centric issues into mobile app development. Outlier detection refers to the identification of anomalous samples that deviate significantly from the distribution of normal data and has been extensively studied and used in a variety of practical tasks. However, most unsupervised outlier detection methods are carefully designed to detect specified outliers, while real-world data may be entangled with different types of outliers. In this study, we propose a fuzzy rough sets-based multi-scale outlier detection method to identify various types of outliers. Specifically, a novel fuzzy rough sets-based method that integrates relative fuzzy granule density is first introduced to improve the capability of detecting local outliers. Then, a multi-scale view generation method based on granular-ball computing is proposed to collaboratively identify group outliers at different levels of granularity. Moreover, reliable outliers and inliers determined by the three-way decision are used to train a weighted support vector machine to further improve the performance of outlier detection. The proposed method innovatively transforms unsupervised outlier detection into a semi-supervised classification problem and for the first time explores the fuzzy rough sets-based outlier detection from the perspective of multi-scale granular balls, allowing for high adaptability to different types of outliers. Extensive experiments carried out on both artificial and UCI datasets demonstrate that the proposed outlier detection method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, improving the results by at least 8.48% in terms of the Area Under the ROC Curve (AUROC) index. Smart connected healthcare is an emerging technology in the context of smart cities. The connected network aims to provide efficient and effective remote patient care. In such scenarios, edge and clouds come into the picture to offload computation from sensors and mobile devices, monitoring patient's health conditions, having limited processing capabilities to the edge and/or the cloud. The problem of optimizing the energy consumption of the edge and cloud servers in this offloading scenario is crucial. However, existing research efforts focus on sensors or cloud energy optimization. They do not consider the edge and cloud as part of the offloading strategy. In this paper, we address this void by proposing a novel energy-aware offloading algorithm for smart connected healthcare, which optimizes the energy of the edge-cloud computing platform for compute-intensive applications. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm is a promising approach to energy savings. © 2021 IEEE.

Cloud computing enables remote execution of users’ tasks. The pervasive adoption of cloud computing in smart cities’ services and applications requires timely execution of tasks adhering to Quality of Services (QoS). However, the increasing use of computing servers exacerbates the issues of high energy consumption, operating costs, and environmental pollution. Maximizing the performance and minimizing the energy in the cloud data center is challenging. In this paper, we propose a performance and energy optimization bi-objective algorithm to trade off the contradicting performance and energy objectives. An evolutionary algorithm-based multi-objective optimization is for the first time proposed using system performance counters. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated using a realistic cloud dataset in a cloud computing environment. Our experimental results achieve higher performance and lower energy consumption compared to a state-of-the-art algorithm.

Renewable energy is gaining wide attention to address the issues, such as depleting resources and environmental degradation, linked with the current non-renewable energy. However, storing renewable energy is challenging. Consequently, energy trading is required to transfer the surplus amount of renewable energy from the prosumers to the consumers. The current centralized energy trading system is less secure and involves large transmission losses and high overheads. The decentralization, replication, immutability, and transparency characteristics of blockchain show a promising potential to address the inherent issues of centralized energy trading. However, the existing blockchain-based energy trading suffers from the drawbacks such as limited scalability, high energy loss, and low transaction throughput. In this paper, we propose a secure and privacy-preserving lightweight blockchain for energy trading that reduces the computational and communication overhead compared to the bitcoin network. This is by clustering the prosumers and perform the energy trading through a cluster head. Our experimental results show the potential of our architecture. © 2021 IEEE.

Edge-cloud computing is an emerging computational model that allows offloading of service requests by the autonomous mobile agents from the edge-server to the cloud-server. This is to reduce the network latency prevalent in the cloud-IoT model. However, Quality-of-Service (QoS)-Aware computation offloading in a heterogeneous and dynamic edge-cloud environment remains an open problem. In this paper, we propose a queuing theory-based edge-cloud computing framework for QoS-aware offloading in mobile autonomous agents. This framework model decides whether to execute an incoming request to the edge-server on the edge itself or to offload to one of the heterogeneous cloud servers such that the request’s execution time is the minimum. To model a request’s execution time, we consider the processing capabilities and the queues overheads of the edge and cloud servers, and the edge-cloud communications’ time. The details of the evaluation results, using dataset generated from real-life scenarios, are presented in the paper. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
