Developing successful software with no defects is one of the main goals of software *** order to provide a software project with the anticipated software quality,the prediction of software defects plays a vital *** learning,and particularly deep learning,have been advocated for predicting software defects,however both suffer from inadequate accuracy,overfitting,and complicated *** this paper,we aim to address such issues in predicting software *** propose a novel structure of 1-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network(1D-CNN),a deep learning architecture to extract useful knowledge,identifying and modelling the knowledge in the data sequence,reduce overfitting,and finally,predict whether the units of code are defects *** design large-scale empirical studies to reveal the proposed model’s effectiveness by comparing four established traditional machine learning baseline models and four state-of-the-art baselines in software defect prediction based on the NASA *** experimental results demonstrate that in terms of f-measure,an optimal and modest 1DCNN with a dropout layer outperforms baseline and state-of-the-art models by 66.79%and 23.88%,respectively,in ways that minimize overfitting and improving prediction performance for software *** to the results,1D-CNN seems to be successful in predicting software defects and may be applied and adopted for a practical problem in software ***,in turn,could lead to saving software development resources and producing more reliable software.

The rapid evolution of digital financial services has significantly increased the vulnerability of financial systems to fraudulent activities. Traditional machine learning models have offered substantial progress in detecting fraudulent transactions;however, they often lack adaptability and transparency, critical for dynamic financial environments and regulatory compliance. This paper introduces a novel approach that integrates Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) with Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to enhance fraud detection capabilities in cloud-based financial platforms. Our model, tested on the synthetic PaySim mobile money transaction dataset, leverages the adaptive nature of DRL to continuously learn and update its fraud detection strategies based on evolving transaction patterns. Concurrently, the integration of XAI provides clear, interpretable insights into the decision-making process, thus ensuring transparency and building trust. The proposed model demonstrates superior performance with an achieved accuracy of 99.5% and an F1-score of 99.0%, significantly outperforming traditional fraud detection systems. These results not only underscore the efficacy of our model in improving the accuracy of fraud detection but also highlight its capability in offering significant improvements in understanding the underlying reasons for each decision, thereby aiding compliance with financial regulations. The practical implications of this research highlight its potential to provide a robust, scalable, and transparent solution for real-time fraud detection, which is essential for safeguarding the integrity of modern financial systems. © 2025 IEEE.

In an era where data is abundant yet underutilized, organizations across various sectors face challenges in extracting actionable insights from complex, multi-modal datasets. To address these challenges, this study proposes a versatile data analytics framework designed to enhance predictive accuracy and support informed decision-making. The framework integrates structured and unstructured data, leveraging advanced Transformer architectures to capture temporal dynamics and complex interactions within the data. In a healthcare use case, the framework demonstrated its effectiveness by achieving an Accuracy of 0.854, an F1-Score of 0.895, and an AUC-ROC of 0.930, significantly outperforming traditional models. By incorporating SHAP for interpretability, the framework ensures that its predictions are both accurate and transparent, making it a valuable tool for decision-makers. While healthcare is one application, the framework’s flexibility allows it to be adapted to a wide range of industries. Future work will focus on validating the framework across different sectors and integrating it into operational workflows to optimize decision-making and outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

Planning the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems for underground mining is critical in guaranteeing communication between nodes (sensor/actuator) and ensuring the effectiveness of their functionalities. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how electromagnetic waves disperse in under- ground environments through models that attempt to reproduce their behavior. This understanding is critical to designing and simulating efficient communications for IIoT systems requiring reliable and continuous data transmission. This paper evaluates two propagation models for underground mining tunnels and emphasizes the analysis of the materials that make up the side walls, the floor, and the roof. The analysis of the models is compared with experimental measurements of received power in the 433 MHz band made in coal mines in Colombia. The results, which have direct practical implications, show that the True Rays model generates a behavior similar to that observed in the experimental measurements, with determination coefficients above 74%. At the same time, we assessed the impact of the standard deviation of surface roughness on the accuracy of the received power predictions in the True Rays model.

Federated learning (FL), as a powerful learning paradigm, trains a shared model by aggregating model updates from distributed clients. However, the decoupling of model learning from local data makes FL highly vulnerable to backdoor attacks, where a single compromised client can poison the shared model. While recent progress has been made in backdoor detection, existing methods face challenges with detection accuracy and runtime effectiveness, particularly when dealing with complex model architectures. In this work, we propose a novel approach to detecting malicious clients in an accurate, stable, and efficient manner. Our method utilizes a sampling-based network representation method to quantify dissimilarities between clients, identifying model deviations caused by backdoor injections. We also propose an iterative algorithm to progressively detect and exclude malicious clients as outliers based on these dissimilarity measurements. Evaluations across a range of benchmark tasks demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods in detection accuracy and defense effectiveness. When deployed for runtime protection, our approach effectively eliminates backdoor injections with marginal overheads. © 2025 IEEE.

With the rising competition among pharmaceutical companies, the current drug supply chain market has become more competitive with high-quality product segments. The rapid growth of internet pharmacies has made it more difficult to standardize drug safety throughout in complex distributed supply chain networks. There is a high chance of introducing counterfeit drugs which are almost the same as the original pharmaceuticals. Due to the lack of transparency the possibility of tampering with drugs in the current manual and web-based pharmaceutical systems is extremely high. Throughout the past recent years, these counterfeit drugs were recognized as the one of major worldwide problems. This situation is worse in developing countries. The unavailability of verifying the legitimacy of drug suppliers and poor mechanisms to trace the drugs were identified as critical points that need to be resolved. SUPPLYDECK comes as a solution for the critical scenario mentioned. This solution addresses the above problems using blockchain technology, as a distributed digital ledger that ensures transparency, traceability, and security. This can show promise for solving some global supply chain management problems using smart contracts and user authentication along with IoT technology and machine learning concepts that are critically examined with this potential application. © 2022 IEEE.

In this study, we present a straightforward teaching strategy for teaching the Python programming language. Our method emphasizes a clear progression from fundamental to sophisticated concepts. Beginning with a thorough explanation of core Python ideas, we show a beginner-level script that dissects each line of code and displays the results. One distinguishing feature of our system is that students use ChatGPT to optimize code, which encourages them to improve the core program with fewer lines. After getting the updated solutions, students carefully compare the original and optimized programs to discover improvements and potential flaws. This study underlines the effectiveness of the Straight-Through Approach, which focuses on improving Python understanding while also developing critical thinking and code optimization skills. Our findings show that this strategy is a simple and effective way for teachers to assist students in growing from basic to advanced Python abilities, resulting in a dynamic and successful learning environment. The proposed technique will teach students how to use AI-driven modules correctly, such as ChatGPT. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

As a developing country, Sri Lanka needs to go along with cutting-edge technologies. In the beginning phase of this digital advertising, multiple advertisements were displayed on the users' feeds, including advertisements despite their preferences. This was a terrible user experience for the users. However, smart advertising based on customer preferences can manage the flow of advertisements on the feed as per the users' preferences. This same technique can be used in handling advertisements while shopping at supermarkets. These advertisements can be directed based on demographic characteristics like face and gender and previous customer transactions. Additionally, providing the nearest supermarket they can reach based on their current location. Queue management is the next most crucial facility that needs to be provided to a supermarket. However, the manual system of queue management is not effective. But with a modernized queue management system, overcrowded supermarkets can be managed effectively. This proposed system also considers providing a chatbot service to manage customer inquiries in a reliable strategy. In this system, we mainly used the Keras model called VGGFace for face detection, the Conventional Neural Network and Keras-based model for gender detection, the TensorFlow model called Single Shot MultiBox Detection MobileNet for queue and crowd detection, the Apriori algorithm base model for predicting the buying pattern, a Keras-based model for Artificial Intelligence chatbot and finally, google map Application Programming Interface for the nearest supermarket finding are models and technology. This system was developed to manage a supermarket properly. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates the interpretability of various machine learning models in the context of detecting SQL injection attacks. The models under investigation include decision trees, multi-layer perceptron, random forests, support vector machines, ADA Boost, naive Bayes, and quadratic discriminant analysis. Our main objective is to gain insights into how these models make decisions when classifying SQL commands as either legitimate or potentially malicious. To achieve this, we employ a set of commonly used features from the literature to train and evaluate the models. By prioritizing explainability, our aim is to uncover the underlying factors and decision rules that drive the models’ predictions. Through this research, we seek to bridge the gap between model accuracy and human understanding, thereby facilitating the practical application of machine learning models in real-world security scenarios. The findings of this study contribute to the development of a case-based explanation system that provides valuable insights for cybersecurity practitioners and researchers. © 2023 CEUR-WS. Scrum is one of the most prominent agile development frameworks as it delivers the project in many sprints in an incremental manner. Sprint delivery capability is a crucial concept in the scrum projects as it assesses whether sprint can capable of delivering its issues on its length. It is difficult to consider forecasting sprint delivery capability in large scrum projects as multiple sprints are processed simultaneously and agile dynamics. Machine Learning (ML) models were applied in the existing studies to forecast sprint delivery but, had limitations in finding non-linear and hidden patterns. To address these problems, this research exploited the untapped ensemble learning approach to bridge the gap to improve the prediction of sprint delivery capability in different project progression levels. The study gathered the data from one of the large open-source scrum projects, JIRA which included 1873 iterations and 10853 issues in table format spanning at 30%, 50%, and 80% project progression levels. Data preprocessing enabled to refinement of the data for analysis. The author enhanced the feature aggregation by using both statistical and automatic feature learning to derive the new features from the issue table and combine them with the iteration table. The key features affecting sprint delivery capability were identified using hybrid feature selection approach. The study developed the untapped ensemble models by choosing the different combinations of ML, Deep Learning (DL), and ensemble algorithms using appropriate ensemble methods and combination rules. The author examined the models and concluded that Categorical Boost (CatBoost) gained the highest accuracy of 96.8% at the 80% project progression level. This prediction assists in improving sprint planning, delivering the software on time, and getting more insights about sprint performance.
