This perspective article explores challenges of traditional education in science,technology,engineering and math(STEM)as it relates to emerging sustainable energy and artificial intelligence development.A special perspective is given for education of underrepresented and minority students in *** discuss the existing issues and suggest that,for an equitable sustainable education in the area of energy,artificial intelligence and sustainable society in general,science and technology knowledge should be acquired in conjunction with humanities and arts,through a multidisciplinary STEM+Art(STEAM)approach and special programming that supports inclusion of diverse professional,socio-economical,racial and gender *** underscore that infusing technical training with social sciences,arts,ethics,and business prepares future leaders to creatively participate in solving identifiable barriers towards a sustainable *** these are challenges caused by climate change,social tensions,or systematic inequalities,such holistic and sustainable education has the power to ease complex global crises,empower and dignify all people,as well as interrupt environmental degradation.

Background: Waste water containing dyes causes serious environmental prob-lems in both aesthetic and toxicological aspects. Although physicochemical and biological treatment processes have been investigated, functional materials are highly demanded for improving the removal efficiency of dye from wastewater. Objective: To synthesize a heterojunction nanocomposite of CuMn2O4/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with outstanding catalytic performance for the effective degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye. Methods: Copper manganese oxide-carbon nanotubes (CuMn2O4/CNTs) nanocomposite was prepared by a solvothermal method. The structure and morphology of the samples were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopic (TEM), and nitrogen adsorption/desorption on the samples at 77 K. The degradation of methylene blue dye was studied using the prepared nanocomposite as a catalyst. Results: CuMn2O4 of small particles was loaded on CNTs, forming a porous structure with a specific surface area of 43.5 m2/g and a total pore volume of 0.17 cm3/g. The optimum conditions for achieving full breakdown in 10 minutes are 1g/L of catalyst dosage and a range of initial concentrations at 50-100 mg/L of MB dye at pH 4. Conclusion: The synthesized CuMn2O4/CNTs nanocomposite exhibited a good prospect as catalyst materials for the decontamination of wastewater polluted with dyes. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

Understanding the effect of gamma-ray irradiation on the nonisothermal crystallization of polymer during cooling is of practical importance for the applications and manufacturing of crystallized polymer. In this work, we expose poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) (PMP) to gamma-ray with different irradiation doses and study the crystallization of the gamma-ray irradiated PMPs. All the PMPs exhibit a doublet peak in the differential scanning calorimeter thermograms for the cooling rates in a range of 2.5–20°C/min. We use linear superposition of two inverse Gaussian functions to decompose the doublet peak into two individual peaks and analyze the crystallization kinetics of the crystallization processes associated with individual peaks. The Avrami exponent decreases with the decrease of the crystallization temperature and is in a range of 0.96–2.43 for the crystallization near the melting point and a range of 0.72–1.68 for the crystallization away the melting temperature. The activation energy for the crystallization near the melting temperature decreases with the increase of the irradiation dose. For the crystallization away from the melting temperature, the activation energy for the PMPs without gamma-ray irradiation is smallest. © 2021 The Authors. Over the last decades,the treatment of the large quantities of hypersaline wastewater generated by conventional industries,inland desalination,and fossil-fueled power plants has been an important economic issue and also an inescapable green ***,we developed a versatile interfacial heating membrane with alternating utilization of electricity or solar energy for hypersaline water *** hierarchical membrane functions both as a separation membrane and an interface heater,which can quickly(<0.1 s)convert electricity or solar energy into heat to evaporate the outermost layer of hypersaline *** 10wt% hyper-saline water,the freshwater production rate can reach 16.8kg/m^(2)⋅h by applying a voltage of 10 V and 1.36 kg/m^(2)⋅h under 1-sun ***,it exhibits high electrochemical resistance to corrosion and therefore remains stable tack-ling hypersaline water(>5 wt%),with a high salt rejection rate of 99.99%.This system shows an efficient desalination strategy that can provide fresh water from brines for agriculture and industry,and even for daily life.

The Co–Fe–Nb materials system is a crucial material for magnetic applications. Despite its importance, the phase equilibria and thermodynamic characteristics of this ternary system have not been explored in detail. This study employs the Calphad method to model the phase equilibria of the Co–Fe–Nb ternary system. To obtain the ternary interaction parameters, the experimental data on the isothermal sections at temperatures ranging from 700 °C to 1300 °C was evaluated. These findings indicate that the Co–Fe–Nb system contains no ternary compound, and the (Co,Fe)7Nb6 phase exists as a single solid solution. Significant solubility of the third element in the binary compounds of Co2Nb (Laves C14) and Fe2Nb (Laves C15) is also observed. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, a liquidus projection of the system is presented, for the first time, revealing eight primary solidification phases in the Co–Fe–Nb ternary system. © 2024

In this paper, the carrier recombination, and dynamics of Perovskite Solar Cells (PSC) are investigated. Ionic Liquids (IL) are presented in the bulk perovskite in an attempt to improve the dynamics of the charge transport layer. Time Resolved Photoluminescence (TRPL) is utilized to study the fast electronic decay of the perovskite samples and the influence of the IL on the stability of the perovskite film. The ILs are added to the perovskite in three ratios (5%, 10%, and 20%). The results showed that the presence of the ILs increases the electron lifetime inside the perovskite layer. In addition, 10% IL/perovskite displayed the highest increase of 72% in the lifetime. Where, for higher ratios, the lifetime started deteriorating. © 2022 IEEE.

In this work, we demonstrate the feasibility of applying electric pulses to heal surface cracks on Ni-based GH4169 alloy under compressive load. There exists an incubation time for the onset of the healing of a crack, which is associated with local temperature at the crack tip. The crack size decreases with increasing the pulsing time at a constant healing rate prior to complete healing of the crack. Increasing compressive load accelerates the healing process. The electric pulsing leads to the formation of an influential zone surrounding the crack with the finest grain sizes in the healed crack and the coarsest grain sizes away from the influential zone. The indentation hardness increases with the increase the distance to the crack tip of the healed crack. A model of viscous flow in the crack channel is proposed for the crack healing. The resultant force on the crack faces due to the crack healing increases with the increase of the healing time and the decrease of the crack width. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A simple one-step solvothermal approach has been adopted for the synthesis of SnS2. SEM shows hierarchically SnS2 with petal-like 3-dimensional layer structures because of this process. In this investigation, the as-prepared electrode material have an excellent specific capacitance of 721F g−1 at 1 mVs−1, indicating extraordinary performance. The improved electrochemical performance is because to unique ultrathin petal discrete structure, which provides increased electrolyte/electrode interface, high active sites, rapid ion/electron transfer, and short diffusion distances. A manufactured symmetric solid-state supercapacitor (SSC) device also has a large capacity to operate commercial LEDs, which allows for the assessment of its practical applicability in device-level application. According to the findings of this work, suitably layered 3D SnS2 electrode materials could be a promising route for the development of environmentally friendly energy storage applications. © 2022

In recent years, the development of sensors capable of detecting acetone levels has garnered attention in health monitoring and personalized medicine. Acetone in the body, a ketone body produced during metabolic processes, has emerged as a promising biomarker for various health conditions, including diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Its presence in exhaled breath offers a non-invasive means of assessing metabolic health, presenting a unique opportunity for continuous monitoring and early intervention. This research investigated the use of a PANI/PMMA polymer sensor array to measure acetone gas. Breath samples and standard substances (acetone, butyric acid) were collected using a hygienic mask and measured with an electronic nose device. The tests showed the sensor could classify between a blank mask, acetone, butyric acid, and breath odors.

Sewage sludge (SS) is an organic biomass from wastewater treatment plants, but the use of SS to produce bio-based chemicals under acid-catalyzed hydrolysis (ACH) processes is not well investigated. In this study, ACH processes were performed at 120, 150, and 180 °C using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) with concentrations of 0–0.5 M within a reaction time of 90–180 min to produce bio-based chemicals from SS. The results showed that the reaction temperature, reaction time, and concentrations of H2SO4 affected the yields of sugars, levulinic acid (LA), and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). The highest xylose and glucose yields were 7.69 mol% and 5.22 mol% at 120 °C with 0.5 M H2SO4 during the 180 min of reaction time, respectively. Besides, under the ACH process at 180 °C and 180 min, the yield of LA reached a maximum value of 0.48 mol% at 0.5 M H2SO4, and the highest yield of HMF was 1.66 mol% at 0.1 M H2SO4. The data obtained also indicated that the ACH process led to an increase in soluble chemical oxygen demand, dissolved organic carbon, and total dissolved nitrogen. Fluorescence excitation-emission matrix of dissolved organic matter and thermogravimetric analysis of the treated SS further supported the enhanced solubilization of SS after ACH process, especially under higher reaction temperature and concentrations of H2SO4. Although the lower yields of bio-based chemicals might restrict the downstream recovery of the target products, the largely improved SS solubilization by ACH suggests that acid-catalyzed hydrothermal hydrolysis process has potential as an alternative pretreatment method of SS. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
