Low Back Muscle Electrical Activity in Pregnant Women of the Second and Third Trimesters

Low back pain during pregnancy causes axial or parasagittal discomfort. These problems are experienced by more than two-thirds of pregnancies. Clinically the measurement of pain was carried out using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) method. Unfortunately, the method has low accuracy and is subjective. This paper proposes a method of measuring pain by using electromyography tools so that pain level measurement has a high level of accuracy and is non-invasive to patients. The study was carried out by installing electromyography electrodes on L4 and L5 muscles. The signal is recorded on a digital storage oscilloscope to find out the electrical activity. The results of the recording were evaluated for the action potential and frequency *** study was conducted on 15 respondents with lower back muscle pain in mothers monitored for 1 minute with electromyography. The monitoring results are calculated on average frequency and action potential and then presented in the form of trends. The results of the analysis of pain level measurement were compared with the results of VAS measurements. From the results of this study indicate that the trend of the action potential and signal frequency using electromyography shows different results when respondents experience the same pain scale on VAS. The value generated in the measurement using VAS is only a pain number scale that is felt by the respondent where the value is subjective.

Weighted graphlets and deep neural networks for protein structure classification

As proteins with similar structures often have similar functions, analysis of protein structures can help predict protein functions and is thus important. We consider the problem of protein structure classification, which computationally classifies the structures of proteins into pre-defined groups. We develop a weighted network that depicts the protein structures, and more importantly, we propose the first graphlet-based measure that applies to weighted networks. Further, we develop a deep neural network (DNN) composed of both convolutional and recurrent layers to use this measure for classification. Put together, our approach shows dramatic improvements in performance over existing graphlet-based approaches on 36 real datasets. Even comparing with the state-of-the-art approach, it almost halves the classification error. In addition to protein structure networks, our weighted-graphlet measure and DNN classifier can potentially be applied to classification of other weighted networks in computational biology as well as in other domains. We study the dynamics of a low-dimensional system of coupled model neurons as a step towards understanding the vastly complex network of neurons in the brain. We analyze the bifurcation structure of a system of two model neurons with unidirectional coupling as a function of two physiologically relevant parameters: the external current input only to the first neuron and the strength of the coupling from the first to the second neuron. Leveraging a timescale separation, we prove necessary conditions for multiple timescale phenomena observed in the coupled system, including canard solutions and mixed mode oscillations. For a larger network of model neurons, we present a sufficient condition for phase locking when external inputs are heterogeneous. This paper presents a search for pair production of higgsinos, the supersymmetric partners of the Higgs bosons, in scenarios with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Each higgsino is assumed to decay into a Higgs boson and a nearly massless gravitino. The search targets events where each Higgs boson decays into bb¯, leading to a reconstructed final state with at least three energetic b-jets and missing transverse momentum. Two complementary analysis channels are used, with each channel specifically targeting either low or high values of the higgsino mass. The low-mass (high-mass) channel exploits 126 (139) fb−1 of s=13 TeV data collected by the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess above the Standard Model prediction is found. At 95% confidence level, masses between 130 GeV and 940 GeV are excluded for higgsinos decaying exclusively into Higgs bosons and gravitinos. Exclusion limits as a function of the higgsino decay branching ratio to a Higgs boson are also reported.

Stable super-resolution of images: A theoretical study

We study the ubiquitous super-resolution problem, in which one aims at localizing positive point sources in an image, blurred by the point spread function of the imaging device. To recover the point sources, we propose to solve a convex feasibility program, which simply finds a nonnegative Borel measure that agrees with the observations collected by the imaging device. In the absence of imaging noise, we show that solving this convex program uniquely retrieves the point sources, provided that the imaging device collects enough observations. This result holds true if the point spread function of the imaging device can be decomposed into horizontal and vertical components, and if the translations of these components form a Chebyshev system, namely, a system of continuous functions that loosely behave like algebraic polynomials. Building upon recent results for one-dimensional signals [1], we prove that this super-resolution algorithm is stable (in the generalized Wasserstein metric) to model mismatch (namely, when the image is not sparse) and to additive imaging noise. In particular, the recovery error depends on the noise level and how well the image can be approximated with well-separated point sources. As an example, we verify these claims for the important case of a Gaussian point spread function. The proofs rely on the construction of novel interpolating polynomials, which are the main technical contribution of this paper, and partially resolve the question raised in [2] about the extension of the standard machinery to higher dimensions. A search for charged-lepton-flavor violating μτqt (q=u, c) interactions is presented, considering both top-quark production and decay. The data analyzed correspond to 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis targets events containing two muons with the same electric charge, a hadronically decaying τ-lepton and at least one jet, with exactly one b-tagged jet, produced by a μτqt interaction. Agreement with the Standard Model expectation within 1.6 standard deviations is observed, and limits are set at the 95% confidence level (CL) on the charged-lepton-flavor violation branching ratio of B(t→μτq)<8.7×10−7. An effective field theory interpretation is performed yielding 95% CL limits on Wilson coefficients, dependent on the flavor of the associated light quark and the Lorentz structure of the coupling. These range from |clequ3(2313)|/Λ2<0.10 TeV−2 for μτut to |clequ1(2323)|/Λ2<1.8 TeV−2 for μτct. An additional interpretation is performed for scalar leptoquark production inducing charged-lepton-flavor violation, with fixed intergenerational couplings. Upper limits on leptoquark coupling strengths are set at the 95% CL, ranging from λLQ=1.3 to λLQ=3.7 for leptoquark masses between 0.5 and 2.0 TeV.

The inclusive cross section for the production of a single top quark in association with a W boson is measured using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at s=13 TeV. Events containing two charged leptons and at least one jet identified as originating from a b-quark are selected. A multivariate discriminant is constructed to separate the tW signal from the tt¯ background. The cross section is extracted using a profile likelihood fit to the signal and control regions and it is measured to be σtW=75−14+15 pb, in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction. The measured cross section is used to extract a value for the left-handed form factor at the Wtb vertex times the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |fLVVtb| of 0.97±0.10.

A search for the nonresonant production of Higgs boson pairs in the HH→bb¯τ+τ− channel is performed using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The analysis strategy is optimized to probe anomalous values of the Higgs boson self-coupling modifier κλ and of the quartic HHVV (V=W,Z) coupling modifier κ2V. No significant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed (expected) upper limit μHH<5.9(3.3) is set at 95% confidence-level on the Higgs boson pair production cross section normalized to its Standard Model prediction. The coupling modifiers are constrained to an observed (expected) 95% confidence interval of −3.1<κλ<9.0 (−2.5<κλ<9.3) and −0.5<κ2V<2.7 (−0.2<κ2V<2.4), assuming all other Higgs boson couplings are fixed to the Standard Model prediction. The results are also interpreted in the context of effective field theories via constraints on anomalous Higgs boson couplings and Higgs boson pair production cross sections assuming different kinematic benchmark scenarios.

A search is presented for the pair production of heavy vectorlike quarks (VLQs) that each decay into a W boson and a light quark. This study focuses on events where one W boson decays into leptons and the other into hadrons. The search analyzed 140 fb−1 of pp collision data with s=13 TeV, recorded by the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018 during run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. The final state is characterized by a high-transverse-momentum isolated electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum, multiple small-radius jets, and a single large-radius jet identified as originating from the hadronic decay of a boosted W boson. With higher center-of-mass energy and integrated luminosity than in the run 1 search, and improved analysis tools, this analysis excludes VLQs (Q) with masses below 1530 GeV at 95% confidence level for the branching ratio B(Q→Wq)=1, an improvement of 840 GeV on the previous ATLAS limit.
