The hyperuniformity concept provides a unified means to classify all perfect crystals, perfect quasicrystals, and exotic amorphous states of matter according to their capacity to suppress large-scale density fluctuations. While the classification of hyperuniform point configurations has received considerable attention, much less is known about the classification of hyperuniform heterogeneous two-phase media, which include composites, porous media, foams, cellular solids, colloidal suspensions and polymer blends. The purpose of this article is to begin such a program for certain two-dimensional models of hyperuniform two-phase media by ascertaining their local volume-fraction variances σV2 (R) and the associated hyperuniformity order metrics BV . This is a highly challenging task because the geometries and topologies of the phases are generally much richer and more complex than point-configuration arrangements and one must ascertain a broadly applicable length scale to make key quantities dimensionless. Therefore, we purposely restrict ourselves to a certain class of two-dimensional periodic cellular networks as well as periodic and disordered/irregular packings, some of which maximize their effective transport and elastic properties. Among the cellular networks considered, the honeycomb networks have the minimal value of the hyperuniformity order metrics BV across all volume fractions. On the other hand, among all packings considered, the triangular-lattice packings have the smallest values of BV for the possible range of volume fractions. Among all structures studied here, the triangular-lattice packing has the minimal order metric for almost all volume fractions. Our study provides a theoretical foundation for the establishment of hyperuniformity order metrics for general two-phase media and a basis to discover new hyperuniform two-phase systems by inverse design procedures. Introduction/Justification Tumor growth has been widely studied through various methodologies. In mathematical oncology, researchers use ordinary differential equations (ODEs) to analyze tumor dynamics. These models present meaningful parameters to link mathematical theory with experimental data. For in vitro cocultures, parameters quantifying cellular competition clarify interactions between tumor and normal cells. Objectives This research investigates the interaction between cancer and normal cells during competition, focusing on the in vitro growth of SK-MEL-147 (metastatic melanoma) and HaCaT (immortalized epithelial cells) cell lines. Using an ODE model with cell numbers as dependent variables, we quantify interspecific competition through the parameters α_{12} (impact of SK-MEL-147 on HaCaT) and α_{21} (impact of HaCaT on SK-MEL-147). Materials and Methods The in vitro cell growth experiments from Morais \textit{et al}., (2017), https://***/10.1038/s41598-017-07553-6, allowed us to estimate parameters for Gatenby's 1996 ODE model. We used a nonlinear mixed effects model from NLMEModeling (https://***/10.48550/arXiv.2011.06879) to account for observation errors and biological variability. Results The curve fitting matched the experimental data for both cell types. Parameter estimates showed that SK-MEL-147 cells experienced stronger inhibition from HaCaT cells than the reverse, suggesting normal cells hinder cancer cell growth upon contact. Conclusion Nonlinear mixed effects modeling successfully fit Gatenby's mathematical model to the experimental data, providing competition parameters that clarified interspecific interactions in tumor dynamics. Such models can predict cell growth behavior, supporting experimental design and reducing the need for preliminary \textit{in vitro} tests.

Forest fires are one of the causes of forest degradation and deforestation in Indonesia. Tropical savanna forests are one of the forest ecosystems found in the Indonesian region with a semi-arid climate type prone to drought and fire. Forest fires contribute to the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The calculation method to estimate the burnt area is still an obstacle in calculating greenhouse gas emissions due to forest fires. This research aims to assess the burnt area in tropical savanna forest cover type using medium resolution satellite imagery data by utilizing the Normalized Burn Ratio index in four villages in East Sumba Regency and estimating greenhouse gas emissions these activities. The results showed that the NBR method does not produce an estimate of the burned area with a fair degree of accuracy because the characteristic of channel 7 (SWIR) is sensitive to vegetation moisture content. The savanna forest cover type is the type of land cover identified as the most dominant burned area. It produces the highest greenhouse gas emissions compared to other land cover types.

Faunus ater is a favoritemollusca that is often found on the Bale River. Local people use these snails as food for consumption along with their main food. Bale River itself is located adjacent to the cement factory, used water washing machines distributed to the river is feared to support the presence of lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) metals in the river. This study aims to analyze the relationship of Pb and Zn content in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in Faunus ater. Data collection was carried out in Februari until April 2018. The relationship between Pb and Zn content in sediments with Pb and Zn content in the body of Faunus ater was analyzed by correlation analysis. The results of the data analysis showed that the metal content of Pb and Zn in sediment and Faunus aterwere found to vary. The highest Pb content in sediment was found at station 2 in March, amounting to 32.87 mg / kg. while the highest Zn content was found at station 1 in March amounting to 84 mg / kg. The relationship of heavy metals Pb and Zn in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater showed a negative correlation. The conclusion of this study is that there is no correlation between the content of Pb and Zn heavy metals in sediments on the content of lead Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater at the Bale Lhoknga River in Aceh Besar District. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Asymptotic stability of shock profiles and rarefaction waves under periodic perturbations for 1-d convex scalar viscous conservation laws

This paper studies the asymptotic stability of shock profiles and rarefaction waves under space-periodic perturbations for one-dimensional convex scalar viscous conservation laws. For the shock profile, we show that the solution approaches the background shock profile with a constant shift in the L∞() norm at exponential rates. The new phenomena contrasting to the case of localized perturbations is that the constant shift cannot be determined by the initial excessive mass in general, which indicates that the periodic oscillations at infinities make contributions to this shift. And the vanishing viscosity limit for the shift is also shown. The key elements of the poof consist of the construction of an ansatz which tends to two periodic solutions as x → ±∞;respectively, and the anti-derivative variable argument, and an elaborate use of the maximum principle. Image recovery from rotational and translational invariants

We introduce a framework for recovering an image from its rotationally and translationally invariant features based on autocorrelation analysis. This work is an instance of the multi-target detection statistical model, which is mainly used to study the mathematical and computational properties of single-particle reconstruction using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) at low signal-to-noise ratios. We demonstrate with synthetic numerical experiments that an image can be reconstructed from rotationally and translationally invariant features and show that the reconstruction is robust to noise. These results constitute an important step towards the goal of structure determination of small biomolecules using cryo-EM. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Self-similar solutions of the so called Airy equations, equivalent to the dispersionless Nonlinear Schrödinger equation written in Madelung coordinates, are found and studied from the point of view of complete integrability and of their role in the recurrence relation from a bi-Hamiltonian structure for the equations. This class of solutions reduces the PDEs to a finite ODE system which admits several conserved quantities, which allow to construct explicit solutions by quadratures and provide the bi-Hamiltonian formulation for the reduced ODEs. Measuring the three-dimensional (3D) distribution of chemistry in nanoscale matter is a longstanding challenge for metrological science. The inelastic scattering events required for 3D chemical imaging are too rare, requiring high beam exposure that destroys the specimen before an experiment completes. Even larger doses are required to achieve high resolution. Thus, chemical mapping in 3D has been unachievable except at lower resolution with the most radiation-hard materials. Here, high-resolution 3D chemical imaging is achieved near or below one nanometer resolution in a Au-Fe3O4 metamaterial, Co3O4 - Mn3O4 core-shell nanocrystals, and ZnS-Cu0.64S0.36 nanomaterial using fused multi-modal electron tomography. Multi-modal data fusion enables high-resolution chemical tomography often with 99% less dose by linking information encoded within both elastic (HAADF) and inelastic (EDX / EELS) signals. Now sub-nanometer 3D resolution of chemistry is measurable for a broad class of geometrically and compositionally complex materials. © 2023, CC BY.

On riemann solutions under different initial periodic perturbations at two infinities for 1-D scalar convex conservation laws

This paper is concerned with the large time behaviors of the entropy solutions to one-dimensional scalar convex conservation laws, of which the initial data are assumed to approach two arbitrary L8 periodic functions as x Ñ ´8 and x Ñ `8, respectively. We show that the solutions approach the Riemann solutions at algebraic rates as time increases. Moreover, a new discovery in this paper is that the difference between the two periodic perturbations at two infinities may generate a constant shift on the background shock wave, which is different from the result in [11], where the two periodic perturbations are the same.35L03, 35L65, 35L67 Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Chiral superconductivity exhibits the formation of novel electron pairs that breaks the time-reversal symmetry and has been actively studied in various quantum materials in recent years. However, despite its potential to provide definitive information, effects of disorder in the crystal structure on the chiral superconductivity has not yet been clarified, and therefore the investigation using a solid-solution system is desirable. We report muon-spin-relaxation results of layered pnictide BaPtAs1−xSbx with a honeycomb network composed of Pt and (As, Sb). We observed an increase of the zero-field muon-spin relaxation rate in the superconducting (SC) state at the Sb end of x = 1.0, suggesting the occurrence of spontaneous magnetic field due to the time-reversal symmetry breaking in the SC state. On the other hand, spontaneous magnetic field was almost and completely suppressed for the As-Sb mixed samples of x = 0.9 and 0.2, respectively, suggesting that the time-reversal symmetry breaking SC state in x = 1.0 is sensitive to disorder. The magnetic penetration depth estimated from transverse-field µSR measurements at x = 1.0 and 0.2 behaved like weak-coupling s-wave superconductivity. These seemingly incompatible zero-field and transverse-field µSR results of BaPtAs1−xSbx with x = 1.0 could be understood in terms of chiral d-wave superconductivity with point nodes on the three-dimensional Fermi surface.
