Phase recovery(PR)refers to calculating the phase of the light field from its intensity *** exemplified from quantitative phase imaging and coherent diffraction imaging to adaptive optics,PR is essential for reconstructing the refractive index distribution or topography of an object and correcting the aberration of an imaging *** recent years,deep learning(DL),often implemented through deep neural networks,has provided unprecedented support for computational imaging,leading to more efficient solutions for various PR *** this review,we first briefly introduce conventional methods for ***,we review how DL provides support for PR from the following three stages,namely,pre-processing,in-processing,and *** also review how DL is used in phase image ***,we summarize the work in DL for PR and provide an outlook on how to better use DL to improve the reliability and efficiency of ***,we present a live-updating resource(https://***/kqwang/phase-recovery)for readers to learn more about PR.

Dielectrophoresis was tried to be applied to the cell sorting technology in previous studies. In the present study, the movement of mouse myoblast cells flowing through the perpendicular electric field in the micro channel has been analyzed in vitro. A pair of asymmetric surface electrodes of titanium were manufactured by the photolithography technique: a triangular electrode with the tip angle of 0.35 rad, and a rectangular electrode of the flat edge as the reference. The cyclic alternating electric current of the square wave with the period of 0.3 μs was introduced between the surface electrodes to induce the asymmetric electric field perpendicular to the main flow direction. The suspension of cells (C2C12: mouse myoblast cell line) was injected into the flow channel, and the flow rate was controlled by the pressure head between the inlet and the outlet. The experimental result shows that the shifted dielectrophretic movement of the flowing cell in the direction perpendicular to the medium flow decreases with the increase of the flow velocity. © 2023 Proceedings IMCIC - International Multi-Conference on Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics.

Partial loss of upper limb motor function is a typical sequela of stroke. To help such patients actively cope with daily challenges and improve their quality of life, limb functional assistances play important roles. To this end, this paper proposes a three-degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism, which can be used for human upper limb assistance. The base of the proposed mechanism is a circular track that can be attached to the waist of the human body. The mechanism consists of two chains containing parallelogram linkage, which presents good constraints for the mobile platform and facilitates the static balance design by adding springs, thereby providing reliable assistive functions and lightweight portability. The mobility of the proposed mechanism is analyzed via the screw theory, and it is verified that the mechanism generates the aimed movements. Then, the kinematic analysis of the mechanism is presented. Finally, the static balance design is carried out in detail, and the spring constants of the three added springs are calculated. The result shows that the mechanism can achieve perfect static balance. The proposed mechanism is expected to provide a potential candidate for assistive devices and be developed into a prototype providing upper limb assistance. © 2025 IEEE.

In tissue engineering, once a scaffold has completed mechanical property testing, it must then undergo biological characterization which determines if the scaffold is capable of supporting cell *** perform biological tests, cells must be seeded onto a scaffold with the help of bioreactors, the four main types being: (i) rotating wall, (ii) spinner flask, (iii) compression, and (iv) perfusion *** perfusion bioreactors, a consistent flow of material is introduced (using a pump) into the inlet of the bioreactor chamber where multiple scaffolds of a disc geometry are ***, the intrinsic, complex interaction between the scaffolds and material flow as it goes through the bioreactor chamber affects the viability of the seeded stem ***, there is a need to identify consequential fluid dynamics phenomena governing the material flow in a perfusion *** this study, using a CFD model, the effects of critical scaffold parameters (such as the number of scaffolds, scaffold diameter, scaffold thickness, and number of pores) on the main flow properties (i.e., flow pressure, wall shear stress, and streamline velocity) influential in cell proliferation and bone development will be *** was observed that increasing the number of pores, in addition to decreasing the pore diameter had an adverse effect on the maximum forces occurring on the *** addition, changing the overall scaffold diameter did not appear to have as much as an effect as the other ***, it was observed that a decrease in porosity would lead to an increase in wall shear stress and consequently in cell ***, the outcomes of this study pave the way for optimal design, fabrication, and preparation of cell-laden bone scaffolds for treatment of bone fractures in clinical settings. This study proposes designing and applying a video stabilization algorithm using LIDAR-inertial odometry (LIO). The performance of the video stabilization function was validated in narrow, low-light environments using a small robot. A unique camera pose estimation method based on LIO has been introduced and integrated with the camera system in this work to not only overcome the limitations of image feature-based camera pose estimation but also address the issues arising from camera sensors. Thus, this strategy allows the practical implementation of a robust camera stabilization algorithm even in extreme environments. The proposed approach is resilient to the differing scan rates of the LIDAR system and the camera, and it enhances usability by filtering noise from the LIO. Furthermore, it requires less computational resources compared to traditional image feature extraction-based methods. This technology can substantially improve the operational convenience for robot operators, especially in scenarios where robots equipped with various sensors are deployed in extreme environments. © ICROS 2025.

This study provides a review of the current state of research on TAM projects in the petrochemical industry, identifying key contributors, active publication sources, and challenges that need to be addressed for successful project execution. Utilizing R Studio software, bibliometric and content analysis were conducted on 63 research papers published between 2004 and 2024. The study identifies key challenges, including the need for improved risk management, enhanced collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, and the integration of advanced technologies. The results indicated the management of the shutdown process, risk management during the shutdown process and the resources intensive tasks as integral to TAM projects. This review highlights the need for ongoing research to address existing gaps and drive innovation in TAM practices, ultimately aiming to optimize maintenance strategies, improve operational safety, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the petrochemical industry. © 2024 IEEE.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Generalized k-ω (GEKO) turbulence model’s ability to be calibrated to improve the accuracy of the resolved drag polar for a whole aircraft geometry. The GEKO turbulence model provides a number of user configurable free parameters capable of being calibrated to better represent a given analytical setup. A global and local study was conducted on the DLR F6 geometry and validated using experimental results collected by ONERA during a wind tunnel test campaign. An ideal wind tunnel computational domain was constructed allowing for these studies to be conducted for several angle of attack design points. A calibration framework was constructed using a Box Behnken Design of Experiments (DoE) scheme to generate 21 parameter combinations, with a finetuning DoE scheme used to further study the influence of the parameters. A global analysis was carried out by simulating the geometry’s drag polar over seven angle of attack design points, allowing for the selection of the combination of parameters that returned the highest accuracy and solver stability from the analysis of the tuning results to be examined. The effects of the GEKO model’s parameters on the development of flow features and the modification of the predicted far field effects were also assessed. Further analysis was conducted using coefficient of pressure data derived from experimental results on the inboard and outboard sides of the pylon to assess the calibrated model’s ability to predict the local flow field. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. The human neuromusculoskeletal system learns and adapts the upper limb impedance to new task dynamics, enhancing task performance and stability. This study aimed to develop and validate a realistic neuromusculoskeletal model of the upper limb capable of predicting stiffness modulation and motor adaptation to newly introduced environments and force fields. We employed an inverse task space dynamics approach with a multipriority task control framework for an existing upper limb model in OpenSim (Stanford, CA, USA). The task space controller was responsible for planning and executing muscle-driven goal-oriented movements for the arm while stabilizing these movements against disturbances. We performed simulations involving longitudinal and transverse reaching movements in a horizontal plane at the shoulder level and used the concept of short-range-stiffness to map the stiffness of muscle-tendon units onto end-limb stiffness. Additionally, we studied motor adaptations for longitudinal reaching movements in presence of three position-based divergent force fields and a velocity-dependent force field. Qualitatively, the proposed model and simulations accurately predicted previously reported, experimental end-limb stiffness properties. Our preliminary results indicated the potential of the proposed computational approach for estimating end-limb stiffness parameters. Future studies are needed to more rigorously validate the model by quantifying the level of agreement between the model and experimental measurements for more upper extremity tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Corrosion is the degradation of materials, usually metals, owing to chemical reactions with the environment which results in a functional failure of components. This research paper investigates the corrosion rate and hardness of mild steel jointed by Arc and CO2 welding processes. Mild steel samples with double V-grooves were prepared prior to CO2 and arc welding processes. In this study, corrosion experiments were conducted to determine the corrosion rate of both samples, namely, weight loss and linear polarization method. Furthermore, the hardness test was conducted on welded samples according to the ASTM E384 standard. The results show that CO2 welding process produced the hardest weld of 193.3 HV, which was 26.4% harder than the arc welding process. The lowest corrosion rate was obtained for the sample welded by CO2 welding process and was reported to be 0.1817 mg/cm2.h. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
