The environment protection is one of the most actual problems, because of the fact that the pollution became a major danger for the planet life. The environment pollution is caused because some pollution agents are in a too big quantity and for la long time that they become dangerous for the human health, for the flora, for the fauna and for the constructions too. The pollution sources can be classified in natural and artificial sources. The quality of the environment from a specific area at a certain time can be appreciated by: a) the air quality;b) the water quality;c) the soil quality;d) the health level of the population;e) the deficit of animals and plants species that are accounted for. In the paper there are given the urban traffic on the principal routs inside the cluj-napoca municipality. The traffic is the constituent part of the research activity of the national project having the destination the monitoring of the noise and vibrations into an urban agglomeration, applied to the cluj-napoca town. This study is the first step for the "noise map" asked for the Romania integration in the European Union for the team researchers of TUCN under the direction of the prof. dr. ing. Mariana ARGHIR.

In this paper, we reveal a dual-algebra-based procedure to obtain exact expressions for the six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) relative orbital motion problem of two spacecraft. The result is achieved by purely analytical methods in the general topic of any Leader and Deputy motion, without singularities or implying any secular terms. Orthogonal dual tensors and dual quaternions play a crucial role, with the solution representation for describing the complete onboard solution of the 6-DOF orbital motion problem. The answer does not depend on the local-vertical-local-horizontal (LVLH) properties that are true in any reference frame of the Leader. A representation theorem is provided for the full-body initial value problem. Furthermore, the representation theorems for the rotation part and translation part of the relative orbital motion are obtained. Recently, on-orbit service, formation flying, rendezvous and docking, fuel modelling, and other close-distance operations have attracted increasing attention from researchers. Traditional control methods assume that the translation and rotation of spacecraft are decoupled, and spacecraft control adopts the serial control mode of alternate attitude and orbit control. As early as the 1960s, dual quaternions' position and attitude coupling characteristics were applied in space robotics and astrodynamics. As a result, the kinematics theory of dual and multi-dual quaternions has become increasingly complete. In computer vision, kinematics theory based on dual and multi-dual algebras has the advantages of low memory occupation, singularity-free, accurate interpolation, and has been widely used in animation production. In the field of dynamics and control, recent papers analysed the characteristics of the dual and multi-dual quaternion kinematics model. The paper contains our study regarding the reduction of urban noise using the sonic barrier walls as to the EMPARA procedure, which is based on the simplified standard method for measurements and computing of surface traffic noise inside urban agglomeration, as they are given in SRM2 laws (Netherlands standards). The studies are made taking into account all parameters that characterize the noise attenuation. The graphical representations are made considering "n-1" constant parameters, and one parameter varying with time. In this way we obtained the influence of each parameter in the diminution of the urban noise using the noise barrier walls. In addition we realized a measurement for a real barrier wall inside the city of Oradea. Our study also contains a FEM model for the analyzed configuration. The comparison between measurements and computation was fair enough, which means that our theoretical study is acceptable and characterizes the noise pollution and its diminution in the urban agglomeration. The measurement-device was a CENTER 322 Sound Lever Meter.

Model based predictive control is a class of computer algorithms that explicitly use a process model to predict future plant outputs and compute an appropriate control action through on-line optimization of a cost objective over a future horizon, subject to various constraints. The cost function is defined in terms of the tracking error (the difference between the predicted output and set-point). Using this scheme, many different MBPC algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This paper presents an adaptive-predictive control algorithm, which uses on-line simulation and rule-based control. The algorithm is applied to an electrode position system of an electric arc furnace. Electric arc furnaces are commonly used in steelmaking and in smelting of nonferrous metals. To obtain the electric arc, usually there are used three graphite electrodes. The power level depends by the positions of the electrodes. As a result, the realization of a competitive control system is very important because it led to reduction of the energy consumption, pollution, and increases the safety of the process.

The First round of the noise mapping obligation according to the European Noise Directive (END) [1] has been finished recently. By the end of 2007 all member states should have prepared their noise maps according to the directive and should have sent the noise mapping reports of the European Commission. In 2008 the EU Member states will continue the implementation of the END by preparing the action plans in order to reduce the number of affected inhabitants. This paper focuses on the action planning work of two mid size cities in Eastern Europe. The two compared cities are Szeged in Hungary and Timisoara in Romania. The two cities are geographically close (80 km) and have a similar urban built up. Beside the similarities of urban built up there are a number of factors which have bigger influence on the action planning procedures. The authors present the comparison of two action plans prepared individually for the different cities.

This paper is aimed at presenting a study on the optimization of the Bipod micro parallel robot, which comprises a two-degree-of-freedom (DOF) micro parallel robot with variable struts. The robot workspace is characterized and the inverse kinematics equation is obtained. In the paper, design optimization is implemented with genetic algorithms (GA) for optimization considering transmission quality index, manipulability, stiffness and workspace. Here, intended to show the advantages of using the GA, we applied it to a multicriteria optimization problem of 2 DOF micro parallel robot. Genetic algorithms (GA) are so far generally the best and most robust kind of evolutionary algorithms. A GA has a number of advantages. It can quickly scan a vast solution set. Bad proposals do not affect the end solution negatively as they are simply discarded. The obtained results have shown that the use of GA in such kind of optimization problem enhances the quality of the optimization outcome, providing a better and more realistic support for the decision maker.

In this paper, we consider the Prize-Collecting Generalized Minimum Spanning Tree Problem (PCGMSTP), which is a variant of the generalized minimum spanning tree problem, where in addition to the non-negative costs associated to the edges, we have non-negative payments to the vertices in order to be selected. We describe a novel solution approach for solving the PC-GMSTP obtained by decomposing the problem into two smaller subproblems: A macro-level subproblem and a microlevel subproblem and solving them separately. The goal of the first subproblem is to provide trees spanning the clusters using a diploid genetic algorithm, while the aim of the second subproblem is to find the minimum-cost tree, corresponding to the above mentioned global trees, spanning exactly one vertex from each cluster. The second subproblem is solved optimally using dynamic programming. The preliminary computational results on an usually used set of benchmark instances prove that our solution approach provides competitive solutions in comparison to the existing methods for solving the PC-GMSTP.

Stiction which results from contact between surfaces is a major failure mode in micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). Increasing restoring forces using high spring constant allows avoiding stiction but leads to an increase of the actuation voltage so that the switch's efficiency is threatened. A statistical rough surfaces interaction model, based on Maugis' and Kim's formulations is applied to estimate the adhesive forces in MEMS switches. Based on the knowledge of these forces, the proper design range of the equivalent spring constant, which is the main factor of restoring force in MEMS switches, can be determined. The upper limit of equivalent spring constant depends mainly on the expected actuator voltage and on the geometric parameters, such as initial gap size and thickness of dielectric layer. The lower limit is assessed on the value of adhesive forces between the two contacting rough surfaces. It mainly depends on the adhesive work of contact surfaces and on the surfaces' roughness. In order to study more complicated structures, this framework will be used in a multiscale model: resulting unloading micro adhesive contact-distance curves of two rough surfaces will be used as contact forces in a finite-element model. In this paper the extraction of these curves for the particular case of gold to gold micro-switches is pursued. © 2010 Society for Experimental mechanics Inc.

This paper presents some applications of a Model Based Predictive Control (MBPC) type algorithm which is applied to nonlinear processes. The basic idea of the algorithm is the online simulation of the future behaviour of the control system, by using a few candidate control sequences. Then, using rule based control these simulations are used to obtain the 'optimal' control signal. The efficiency and applicability of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated through applications.

We propose a solution for handling robot abort commands, illustrated by a real-world scenario involving household kitchen robots. The robot uses planning to find sequences of actions that must be performed in order to gracefully cancel a previously received command. The Planning Domain Definition Language (PDDL) is used to write a domain to model kitchen activities and behaviours, and this domain is enriched with knowledge from online ontologies and knowledge graphs, like DBPedia. We discuss the results obtained in different scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.
