The incident rate of the Gastrointestinal-Disease(GD)in humans is gradually rising due to a variety of reasons and the Endoscopic/Colonoscopic-Image(EI/CI)supported evaluation of the GD is an approved *** and evaluation of the suspicious section of the EI/CI is essential to diagnose the disease and its *** proposed research aims to implement a joint thresholding and segmentation framework to extract the Gastric-Polyp(GP)with better *** proposed GP detection system consist;(i)Enhancement of GP region using Aquila-Optimization-Algorithm supported tri-level thresholding with entropy(Fuzzy/Shannon/Kapur)and between-class-variance(Otsu)technique,(ii)Automated(Watershed/Markov-Random-Field)and semi-automated(Chan-Vese/Level-Set/Active-Contour)segmentation of GPfragment,and(iii)Performance evaluation and validation of the proposed *** experimental investigation was performed using four benchmark EI dataset(CVC-ClinicDB,ETIS-Larib,EndoCV2020 and Kvasir).The similarity measures,such as Jaccard,Dice,accuracy,precision,sensitivity and specificity are computed to confirm the clinical significance of the proposed *** outcome of this research confirms that the fuzzyentropy thresholding combined with Chan-Vese helps to achieve a better similarity measures compared to the alternative schemes considered in this research.

Fruit diseases seriously affect the production of the agricultural sector,which builds financial pressure on the country’s *** manual inspection of fruit diseases is a chaotic process that is both time and cost-consuming since it involves an accurate manual inspection by an ***,it is essential that an automated computerised approach is developed to recognise fruit diseases based on leaf *** to the literature,many automated methods have been developed for the recognition of fruit diseases at the early ***,these techniques still face some challenges,such as the similar symptoms of different fruit diseases and the selection of irrelevant *** processing and deep learning techniques have been extremely successful in the last decade,but there is still room for improvement due to these ***,we propose a novel computerised approach in this work using deep learning and featuring an ant colony optimisation(ACO)based *** proposed method consists of four fundamental steps:data augmentation to solve the imbalanced dataset,fine-tuned pretrained deep learning models(NasNetMobile andMobileNet-V2),the fusion of extracted deep features using matrix length,and finally,a selection of the best features using a hybrid ACO and a Neighbourhood Component Analysis(NCA).The best-selected features were eventually passed to many classifiers for final *** experimental process involved an augmented dataset and achieved an average accuracy of 99.7%.Comparison with existing techniques showed that the proposed method was effective.

Power converter control techniques must evolve to accommodate power system complexity and renewable energy integration. Traditional control methods may be difficult to adapt to these dynamic and uncertain systems. Reinforcement learning (RL) can build optimal control policies in complex and unpredictable situations, making it a promising intelligent control solution in this scenario. This research examines how reinforcement learning can control power converters in energy systems. Advanced reinforcement learning methods, notably deep reinforcement learning, are used to improve power converter efficiency in varied operational scenarios. This research examines the integration of reinforcement learning (RL)-based controllers into power converter systems, focusing on their autonomous learning and adaptation. The explored method uses Reinforcement Learning (RL) flexibility to address power system time-varying conditions, non-linearities, and uncertainties. This research considers practical concerns such RL-based control's effects on real-time execution, processing requirements, and safety. The report concludes with suggestions for future research including expanding RL-based intelligent control systems to power system applications. Reinforcement learning keywords include stability, efficiency, reliability, renewable energy, deep reinforcement learning, power converters, intelligent control, and energy systems. © 2024 IEEE.

As the United States phases out traditional fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy sources, it is important to capitalize on all available avenues to increase renewable penetration. In the last decade, the costs associated with residential solar photovoltaic (PV) installations have decreased significantly, providing more homeowners with the opportunity to generate their own clean electricity. Research has found that the decision to invest in a residential solar PV system is guided by economic, social, and personal factors. Accounting for such complexities, the joint power of agent-based modeling and social network analysis is leveraged in this study to evaluate the effect of social influence on solar PV adoption. Featuring residential consumer agents with data-driven attributes, a logistic regression function to predict solar adoption, and random and small-world social network implementations, this work simulates residential solar PV adoption in New Jersey. Results indicate that including social influence in an agent-based electricity system model leads to increased installed residential solar capacity, but not necessarily higher adoption rates. These findings suggest that, with an understanding of the intricacies of consumer social networks, there are potential opportunities to bolster residential solar installations through low-cost social campaigns that motivate individuals to adopt home solar through their social ties. An ML-based decision support system for reliable diagnosis of ovarian cancer by leveraging explainable AI

Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in women. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for the survival of the patients. However, the majority of women are diagnosed in advanced stages due to the lack of effective biomarkers and accurate screening tools. While previous studies sought a common biomarker, our study suggests different biomarkers for the premenopausal and postmenopausal populations. This can provide a new perspective in the search for novel predictors for the effective diagnosis of OC. Genetic algorithm has been utilized to identify the most significant biomarkers. The XGBoost classifier is then trained on the selected features and high ROC-AUC scores of 0.864 and 0.911 have been obtained for the premenopausal and postmenopausal populations, respectively. Lack of explainability is one major limitation of current AI systems. The stochastic nature of the ML algorithms raises concerns about the reliability of the system as it is difficult to interpret the reasons behind the decisions. To increase the trustworthiness and accountability of the diagnostic system as well as to provide transparency and explanations behind the predictions, explainable AI has been incorporated into the ML framework. SHAP is employed to quantify the contributions of the selected biomarkers and determine the most discriminative features. Merging SHAP with the ML models enables clinicians to investigate individual decisions made by the model and gain insights into the factors leading to that prediction. Thus, a hybrid decision support system has been established that can eliminate the bottlenecks caused by the black-box nature of the ML algorithms providing a safe and trustworthy AI tool. The diagnostic accuracy obtained from the proposed system outperforms the existing methods as well as the state-of-the-art ROMA algorithm by a substantial margin which signifies its potential to be an effective tool in the differential diagnosis of OC. © 2024

In this paper, we highlight how including technology, movement or play can boost a design process but with unbalanced amounts can also hamper the process. We provide a set of examples where we miscalculated the amount of technology, movement, or play that was needed in a design activity in such a way that it became counterproductive and for each example mention possible adaptations. Finally, we highlight three existing approaches that can balance the overabundance of technology, movement, and play in design processes: activity-centered design, somaesthetic design, and perspective-changing movement-based design. © 2023 Owner/Author.

The utilization of microalgae as a bioindicator for water quality assessment has traditionally relied on the expertise of morphological identification. With the advent of technological advancements, particularly the smartphone camera, there has been increasing interest in using it as a tool for various fields of microbiological and medical diagnostics, including image analysis of microalgae. Despite the growing popularity of smartphone-based image analysis, the image quality of smartphone cameras for detecting microalgae has yet to be thoroughly evaluated. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the suitability of smartphone-based camera for collecting microalgae images and compare it to that of a digital microscope camera. Additionally, the effect of different microscopic magnifications at 100x and 400x on model performance was thoroughly studied. Four models, YOLOv5, RetinaNet, EfficientDet, and Faster-RCNN, were trained on microalgae image datasets taken by both a smartphone camera (SC) and a digital microscope camera (DMC) under 100x and 400x magnification. A total of 11,608 images were divided into three parts: train (70%), validation (10%), and test (20%), with the test dataset separated into four parts for each device and magnification. The results of the study indicated that Faster-RCNN was the best model for microalgae detection, with the highest average precision (AP0.5) values of 0.60, 0.84, 0.91, and 0.96 at 100x magnification of SC and DMC and 400x magnification of SC and DMC, respectively. The comparison between the image quality of SC and DMC at each magnification revealed that the SC was less suitable for microalgae identification, particularly at 100x magnification. Conversely, the 400x magnification of SC had the potential to identify microalgae through the use of smartphone-based photography, as well as digital microscope camera. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates a novel framework for board-level failure localization in the Optical Transport Networks (OTN), dubbed Board-Alarm Propagation Tree based Failure Localization (BAPT-FL). Foremost, a collection of functional graphs (FGs) is garnered by iteratively tagging each board in the network topology, serving as the ground of the proposed framework. Concretely, BAPT-FL is designed to build a range of BAPTs by correlating the tagged boards and alarms involved in the FGs, where each BAPT deems a failed board and its corre-lated alarms as the root and leaves, respectively. To evaluate the edge weights of potential BAPTs induced by FGs, a graph neural network (GNN) with the graph transformer operator is employed as an edge classifier, which characterizes each vertex/edge from diverse dimensions including time, traffic distribution, network topology, and board/alarm attributes. Subsequently, we frame an integer linear programming (ILP) problem to construct the best possible BAPT(s). Extensive case studies are conducted to showcase BAPT-FL's advantage over its counterparts in terms of the metrics assessing the identified failed boards/root alarms. We also delve into its performance in volatile environmental variations such as diverse failure scenarios, network topologies, traffic distributions, and noise alarms.
