As smart cities evolve, they integrate various applications such as intelligent transportation systems, energy management, healthcare, and public safety, all of which depend on interconnected networks. These applications rely on massive data exchanges between sensors, devices, and cloud services, making the system more efficient but also exposing it to cybersecurity challenges. Cyber threats, including data breaches, denial of service (DoS) attacks, and malware, can disrupt essential services, compromise privacy, and endanger lives. The complexity of smart city infrastructure amplifies vulnerabilities, making real-time detection and localization of attacks a critical necessity. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for attack detection and localization specifically designed for smart city environments. The framework integrates machine learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) with packet analysis techniques. Upon detection of an anomaly, detailed packet analysis is performed to extract crucial information, such as IP addresses, GPS coordinates, and other metadata. This enables precise localization of the attack's source, facilitating rapid response and mitigation. The combination of machine learning for anomaly detection with packet-level analysis ensures a comprehensive approach, significantly improving detection accuracy and localization precision. Extensive evaluations on real-world datasets demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in enhancing the security of smart city networks, while reducing false positives and improving real-time response capabilities. This framework represents a critical advancement in protecting smart cities from evolving cyber threats. © 2024 IEEE.

Path planning is the core of autonomous robot navigation, which helps the robot to find a collision-free path to the destination based on the environment information. Most current path planning methods only consider the path length, but the optimal path may deviate from the shortest when considering other environmental factors such as uneven terrain or regions with varying traversal costs. Similarly, in scenarios prioritizing energy efficiency, a sole focus on path length may lead to suboptimal solutions. In this paper, an improved Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm based on Decomposition (MOEA/D) with adaptive weight vector, external archive, and constrained update strategy namely the MOEA/D-EAWA is proposed. This algorithm not only considers the path length but also four additional objectives such as smoothness, traveling time, terrain (elevation), and speed limit (expected delay). In addition, MOEA/D-EAWA is better suited for such many-objective path planning problem which has an irregular, discrete, and sparse Pareto front. The simulation results from 90 map instances demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the existing approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a unique hybrid integration platform for wafer scale passive assembly of electronics and photonics devices using a CMOS based Optical Interposer. Our optical interposer enables seamless communications between electronics and photonics chips that are assembled on it using visually assisted passive flip chip bonding techniques. This unique integration platform is the first such platform in the industry adapted to directly modulated lasers and enables the world's smallest single chip Transmit/Receive Optical engine for 100G-400G optical engines. © 2022 IEEE.

One of the most challenging issues facing Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) cyber defense is the complexity of their ecosystem coupled with the development of cyber-attacks. Medical equipments lack built-in security and are increasingly becoming connected. Moving beyond traditional security solutions becomes a necessity to protect patients and organizations. In order to effectively deal with the security risks of networked medical devices in such a complex and heterogeneous system, we need to measure security risks and prioritize mitigation actions. In this context, we propose a Fuzzy AHP-based method to assess security attributes of connected medical devices and compare different device models against a selected profile with regards to the user requirements. The proposal aims to empower user security awareness to make well-educated decisions. © 2022 IEEE.

Smart cities are made up of various components that are interconnected. These components exchange data on an ongoing basis and they facilitate the lives of citizens. Its use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) was a key factor in its sustainable development. Nonetheless, this development contributed to a rise of safety threats, criminal use of information and several other security and privacy challenges. As a result, security and privacy concerns have emerged as a significant problem for smart cities. Safety factors for smart cities have become a concern for all those involved in this field. In this study, we deeply examine and review and the concept of smart cities and the challenges it faces at first. In a second phase, we mainly address the research gap of security in smart cities and present an analysis of associated security challenges. In the last section, we introduce our approach that aims to: (i) capture the processes of penetration attempts, alterations and cyber attacks;(ii) truck malicious behaviors and locate their sources;and (iii) finally setup controls to repel and prevent them. To illustrate the applicability and efficiency of our solution, We refer to a case of study to demonstrate the efficacy of our detection method, using different machine learning algorithms and the dataset CICIDS2017. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent years, with the rapid development of key elements and core technologies of artificial intelligence, large-scale pre-training model (large model) has achieved remarkable effects. As specific practice progresses of large model, it is useful to realize the universality and generalizability of artificial intelligence, and respond to the strategic goal of building a strong model framework. From the perspective of theory, this article explores the support points of large model in the theories of intrinsic subspace, effective model complexity, and low rank decomposition. We discuss the research findings, implications and limitations of model development, and puts forward relevant suggestions for the future trend. © 2022 IEEE.

Conventional wireless networks are half-duplex and most of them use contention-based protocols. These protocols usually adopt a principle of contention with collision avoidance and infer a collision occurrence very late from the absence of an acknowledgement after data transmission, thus causing low network performance. Wireless full-duplex enables simultaneous transmission (TX) and reception (RX) on the same channel. By exploiting this functionality, this work proposes a novel design that enables contention with collision detection (CCD) to improve the network performance. With this design, in contention, a node exploits its TX antenna to transmit a signal for channel contention, while exploiting its RX antenna to sense if other nodes are transmitting too. By checking the status of TX and RX antennas, the node can detect the contention collision before data transmission and hence obtains an opportunity to avoid data collision effectively. This work then develops a theoretical model to analyze the collision probability of this design. Extensive simulation results verify the effectiveness of our proposed design in improving wireless network performance. © 2023 IEEE.

This letter puts forth a new hybrid horizontal-vertical federated learning (HoVeFL) for mobile edge computing-enabled Internet of Things (EdgeIoT). In this framework, certain EdgeIoT devices train local models using the same data samples but analyze disparate data features, while the others focus on the same features using non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data samples. Thus, even though the data features are consistent, the data samples vary across devices. The proposed HoVeFL formulates the training of local and global models to minimize the global loss function. Performance evaluations on CIFAR-10 and SVHN datasets reveal that the testing loss of HoVeFL with 12 horizontal FL devices and six vertical FL devices is 5.5% and 25.2% higher, respectively, compared to a setup with six horizontal FL devices and 12 vertical FL devices. © 2019 IEEE.
