OWL and RDF/RDFS are ontological languages developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3), which have become a de facto standard for the, ontological descriptions in various domains. The evolution of these standards was influenced by the numerous advances in the research of knowledge representation and reasoning. Although support for reasoning and standardized representation is the key benefit, of these technologies, there is a lack of existing test, frameworks, which would be capable of addressing many crucial aspects of the Semantic Web applications. In this paper we propose a methodology for automated testing of OWL reasoners based on the real-world ontologies. This specification covers both terminological and assertional reasoning as well as checking of the correctness of the answers. An open-source implementation of such framework is described and a study of initial result is provided. The tests cover an extensive set of reasoners and ontologies and provide a state-of-the-art insight, into the field of OWL reasoning.

In this paper we present design and development of a knowledge framework for grid and web service-based workflow composition and execution. We highlight the corresponding architecture and the process of service annotation, discovery and composition in the project K-WfGrid [5]. We describe in detail the challenges of a flood-forecasting application and corresponding design and development of the service oriented model, which is based on the well known Web Service Resource Framework (WSRF). Semantic descriptions of the WSRF services are presented as well as the architecture, which exploits semantics in discovery and composition of service workflows. Further, we demonstrate how experience management solutions can aid the process of collaborative service discovery and composition. The whole K-Wf Grid system provides a unique approach in Semantic Grids by combining the advances of semantic web services and grid architectures.

Web Service Resource Framework (WSRF) is a recent effort of the grid community to facilitate modeling of the stateful services. Semantic Web Services (SWS) initiative is proposing a standard called OWL-S, to help the intelligent service provisioning i.e. automated discovery, composition and invocation of the services. In this paper we provide an overview of both frameworks and analyse their complementary features. We will also describe the OWL-S extensions necessary to cover the services introduced by the WSRF standard. Analysis of the requirements as well as description of the architecture is provided. A flood-forecasting application scenario is described, which have been used to evaluate the architecture.

Cloud computing has seen a tremendous growth in the last five years. Along with the growth, many cloud models have been marketed. They deliver hardware and software as virtualization enabled services to users. Although cloud computing offers considerable advantages such as unlimited resources, manageability and lower investment costs but there are still barriers to exploit it. One of the barriers is the difficulties, which users are being faced when developing and deploying their own services into clouds. In this paper, we present a novel approach for developing interoperable services that can be deployed in different cloud infrastructures at the same time. The approach provides an instrument with emphasis on abstraction, inheritance and code reuse. Using the approach, cloud-based services are developed easily by extending existing abstractions classes provided by the instrument or other developers. The interoperability between different clouds is solved via the basic abstraction class of the instrument and all services are inherited and benefited from this advantage. © 2013 IEEE.

The Semantic Grid is a recent initiative to expose semantically rich information associated with Grid resources to build more intelligent Grid services. Recently, several projects have embraced this vision and there are several successful applications that combine the strengths of the Grid and of semantic technologies. However, Semantic Grid still lacks a technology, which would provide the needed scalability and integration with existing infrastructure. In this paper we present our on-going work on a semantic grid repository, which is capable of addressing complex schemas and answer queries over ontologies with large number of instances. We present the details of our approach and describe the underlying architecture of the system. We conclude with a performance evaluation, which compares the current state-of-the-art reasoners with our system. © 2007 IEEE.

In this paper we present a dynamic agent platform discovery system which is used for real-time resource selection during crisis situations. We present a motivating use case and we describe the implementation and design details of the proposed system. Comparison of invocation mechanisms of agents as a direct result of AP discovery is discussed. We also present a scenario on which the discovery mechanism was evaluated. © 2013 IEEE.

This article proposes a mobile agent platform based on Jini services deployed over IP-based networks. The role of agents in the proposed architecture is primarily coordinated collection of information. The overall agent infrastructure is designed as a secure, robust and fail resistant system. Trust for agents can be based on a special hardware module which provides trusted computing functionality. In the article we describe such architecture in terms of requirements and design. Core agent types are proposed to access different kinds of distributed resources. Specialized agents for access to legacy information sources, communication with end-users and configuration of IP-based network devices are described. We conclude with current state of the architecture implementation and with further plans concerning the development of the described architecture. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper we present design and development of the semantic grid services for the flood forecasting simulations. Routine operations of emergency first responders are usually well managed. The situation is different for mass casualty emergencies where more people and properties are threatened. In such situations there are no predefined plans in place and mitigation is solved mostly through crisis management. Teams managing such acute accidents are often working in information insufficiency. Timely information exchange between involved agencies, common understanding of data and fast provision of knowledge can save lives and protect properties. Useful information is heterogeneous and is distributed across many organizations in disparate information sources in many formats with different access policies and in varying quality. The information sources range from sensors deployed on incidence sites, publicly available data sources, corporate legacy systems, documents stored on remote locations to human end-users providing information using mobile devices. This article addresses operational challenges of First Responders and complementary challenges in accessing and analyzing information from multiple sources to provide advanced capabilities for command and control in emergency response. Herein we propose to use an agent-based infrastructure for supporting such interoperability. We propose to build the framework amplifying an agent infrastructure developed in scope of the SECRICOM EU integrated project. In this article we focus mainly on the conceptual architecture of such integration framework. © 2012 IEEE.
