We report a straightforward strategy to design efficient N doped porous carbon (NPC) electrocatalyst that has a high concentration of easily accessible active sites for the CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR). The NPC with large amounts of active N (pyridinic and graphitic N) and highly porous structure is prepared by using an oxygen‐rich metal–organic framework (Zn‐MOF‐74) precursor. The amount of active N species can be tuned by optimizing the calcination temperature and time. Owing to the large pore sizes, the active sites are well exposed to electrolyte for CO 2 RR. The NPC exhibits superior CO 2 RR activity with a small onset potential of −0.35 V and a high faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.4 % towards CO at −0.55 V vs. RHE, one of the highest values among NPC‐based CO 2 RR electrocatalysts. This work advances an effective and facile way towards highly active and cost‐effective alternatives to noble‐metal CO 2 RR electrocatalysts for practical applications.

We have designed a series of mechanochromic devices inspired by nature with the capabilities of changing transparency and "switching on/off" luminescence in response to mechanical stimuli. The key to accomplish these excellent optical properties is to control strain-induced surface engineering,that is,the longitudinal cracks opening and transverse invaginated folds. All of these devices are comprised of a rigid thin layer atop polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) based elastomer,which can be facilely and quickly fabricated. For transparency change mechanochromism,the folds and cracks with excellent light trapping and scattering capabilities can endow high opaqueness to the originally highly transparent samples. The evolution of crack opening and fold–ridge mechanisms are captured through finite analysis that incorporates damage and cracks in the rigid thin layer. For luminescent mechanochromism,the strain-tunable cracks on the UV shield layer act as "gates" to mediate the traveling of UV light to "switch on/off" the luminescence of mechanochromism. This device exhibits a remarkably high strain responsive sensitivity,demonstrating an excellent sensing capability for detecting mechanical failure or damage. All the mechanochromisms also show outstanding durability and reversibility.

As alternatives to Pt-based electrocatalysts, the development of nonprecious metal catalysts with high performance in the cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is highly desirable for widespread use in fuel cells. Here we report a simple approach for preparing pentabasic (Fe, B, N, S, P)-doped reduced graphene oxide (rGO) via a two-step doping method of adding boric acid and ferric chloride to ternary (N, S, P)-doped rGO (NSPG). Electro- chemical investigation of the composites for the ORR revealed that simultaneously doping appropriate amounts of Fe and B into the NSPG produced a synergistic effect that endowed the prepared catalyst with both a positively shifted ORR half-wave potential and high selectivity for the 4e^-reduction of O2. The optimized Fe2B-NSPG catalyst approached a 4e^- process for the ORR with a half-wave potential (E1/2=0.90 V vs. RHE) even 30 mV higher than that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst in alkaline solution. Furthermore, relative to the Pt/C catalyst, the Fe2B-NSPG demonstrated superior stability and excellent tolerance of the methanol cross-over effect. This simple method afforded pentabasic (Fe, B, N, S, P)-doped rGO as a promising nonpreeious metal catalyst used for alkaline fuel cells.

We took advantage of gasotransmitter HS as a chemical reaction-based trigger for controlled release of doxorubicin which is precoordinated by copper ions and enclosed in horse spleen apoferritin. The nanocomposite is stable at physiological pH and temperature before HS activation. The drug release process avoids disassembly of protein shells and is controllable by the strong affinity of sulfide with copper ions. The in vitro cytotoxicity assay indicates the antitumor effect of doxorubicin toward tumor cells could be achievable by HS activation.

Electrochemically functional porous membranes of low cost are appealing in various electrochemical devices used in modern environmental and energy technologies. Herein we describe a scalable strategy to construct electrochemically active, hierarchically porous carbon membranes containing atomically dispersed semi‐metallic Se, denoted SeNCM. The isolated Se atoms were stabilized by carbon atoms in the form of a hexatomic ring structure, in which the Se atoms were located at the edges of graphitic domains in SeNCM. This configuration is different from that of previously reported transition/noble metal single atom catalysts. The positively charged Se, enlarged graphitic layers, robust electrochemical nature of SeNCM endow them with excellent catalytic activity that is superior to state‐of‐the‐art commercial Pt/C catalyst. It also has long‐term operational stability for hydrazine oxidation reaction in practical hydrazine fuel cell.
