Liquid waste with a high amount of total suspended solids (TSS) is one of the significant environmental issues from coal mining activities in Kalimantan island under high precipitation in of an extensive zone of coverage. The TSS concentration with Nano-sized particle in mine drainage is caused by clay minerals which are dominated by montmorillonite type. Therefore, a vast chemical agent is usually used to treat TSS concentrations of liquid waste less than 300 mg/L based on government regulation. However, in this case, the chemical flocculant triggers the onset of secondary pollutant because of carcinogenic and non-biodegradable conditions. This study aims to observe specific fungi, Marasmius sp, as bio-flocculant for the treatment of mine drainage with extra high TSS. The fungi can produce a biodegradable polymer that precipitate the montmorillonite with two-mode action, namely bio-flocculant polymerization and mycelial trapping. A role model was performed in a laboratory-scale less than 1 L in several graduated/measuring cylinders under 22-30 °C. The results of clarity and flocculation rate tests indicated that the minerals in the mine drainage samples from *** mining excavation area, had been precipitated rapidly. The clarity test by using spectrophotometer indicated that eighty six percent (86%) clarity value averagely in one-hour treatment, while the TSS concentration amount decreased down to 110.1 mg/L from original measured at 11,000 mg/L based on the flocculation rate test.

As a popular city for global tourists, more than one third of the Phuket GPP depends on the hotel and restaurant sector. The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami caused a serious physical damage to hotels and a high cancellation of bookings in the post disaster period, which, in turn, led to most THB 3 billion drop of the hotel and restaurant sector income in 2005 in Phuket. In addition, many tourism facilities in Phuket suffered bankruptcy or a slump, because they started their business again immediately after the reconstruction phase, while tourists did not really come back. This paper is an initiative study of our research project to evaluate the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami on Hotel Occupancy, with a focus on the speed for the physical reconstruction and tourism market recovery. We collected the physical reconstruction period and the hotel occupancy recovery data of six hotels that located in the Patong Beach of Phuket from 2003 to 2017. Through calculation, the average of damage rate (i.e., unavailability of the rooms in this study) is 55.89%, with an average speed for the physical reconstruction to rebuild the rooms about 6.07% of the overall rooms per month. The quotient of these two values indicates that the reconstruction period is around 9.2 months. However, the average period for reconstruction and tourism recovery is about 20 months. There is an about 11 months' delay between that hotel and resorts have finished the reconstruction and the tourists start to visit Phuket as usual. Therefore, the local government, local tourist authority, and hotel entrepreneurs can consider these findings in order to prepare the recovery plan for tourism industry in the future tsunami. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. BigNeuron is an open community bench-testing platform with the goal of setting open standards for accurate and fast automatic neuron tracing. We gathered a diverse set of image volumes across several species that is representative of the data obtained in many neuroscience laboratories interested in neuron tracing. Here, we report generated gold standard manual annotations for a subset of the available imaging datasets and quantified tracing quality for 35 automatic tracing algorithms. The goal of generating such a hand-curated diverse dataset is to advance the development of tracing algorithms and enable generalizable benchmarking. Together with image quality features, we pooled the data in an interactive web application that enables users and developers to perform principal component analysis, t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding, correlation and clustering, visualization of imaging and tracing data, and benchmarking of automatic tracing algorithms in user-defined data subsets. The image quality metrics explain most of the variance in the data, followed by neuromorphological features related to neuron size. We observed that diverse algorithms can provide complementary information to obtain accurate results and developed a method to iteratively combine methods and generate consensus reconstructions. The consensus trees obtained provide estimates of the neuron structure ground truth that typically outperform single algorithms in noisy datasets. However, specific algorithms may outperform the consensus tree strategy in specific imaging conditions. Finally, to aid users in predicting the most accurate automatic tracing results without manual annotations for comparison, we used support vector machine regression to predict reconstruction quality given an image volume and a set of automatic tracings.

The world is encountering a global threat: climate change. It is estimated that the average air temperature will raise 3.7 - 7.8 °C by 2100. The possible impacts will vary, however, agriculture will be adversely affected marked with yield loss of staple crops such as rice and maize and altered post-harvest quality of horticulture products. On the other hand, the world Food and Agriculture Organization (UN-FAO) has set a target 'zero hunger' by 2030', despite the five big challenges ahead: i) protracted conflict, ii) growing inequality, iii) rapid urbanization, iv) economic challenges, v) drought and natural disasters. The existing plant genetic resources, particularly the wild, neglected, and underutilized species has a great role and bears big potential to be exploited and targetted to achieve food and nutrition security, esp. in the densely populated regions with malnutrition problem e.g. in Asia and sub-Saharan regions. However, a key to future and sustainable crop production lies in the collection of crop and their wild relatives stored in ex-situ, or in-situ. This paper aims to explain the importance of plant genetic resources as well as the potential of some underutilized crops closely attributed with drought resistence, such as sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), amaranth (Amaranthus sp.). These crops bear potential to support national food security program.

The aim of this work was to perform analysis of the a-tocopherol content by HPLC in Amazonian fruits consumed in Roraima state, Brazil, namely: ata brava, açaí, bacaba, buriti, buritirana, yellow murici, red murici, piaçaba braba, pupunha varieties red and yellow and tucumanzinho. A high concentration of the vitamin in the açaí pulp (1101.11 mg L-1) and of the ata brava seeds (644.27 mg L-1) was observed, but other fruits such as buritirana pulp (166.34 mg L-1), red murici (179.52 mg L-1), and piaçaba brava (8.77 mg L-1) presented low amounts of a-tocopherol. As for the yellow and red varieties of pupunha and the tucumanzinho, no presence of the isomer was detected. Identification and quantification of a-tocopherol cited in this work are unpublished for the ata brava, buritirana and red murici, as for the other fruits studied there were variations. Amazonian fruits may present a-tocopherol in its lipid composition, which is one of the most bioactive isomers of vitamin E, for this reason. Copyright © 2018, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

An earthquake resistant structure should be able to perform as expected when it's struck by an earthquake such as it may experience slight damage and should be able to be repaired to its original state when struck by a design level earthquake. However, there are still debates whether reparation should also be viable when structures are experiencing severe damage. There are still a little to no studies about repairing severely damaged structures, therefore a study was made to see how severely damaged structures behaved after being repaired. Two beam column joints are used as specimens, which were severely damaged by an earthquake simulation before getting repaired. Both their initial and repaired condition are then modeled analytically using SAP2000. Their behaviors such as plastic hinges, joint's shear deformation, bond slip, and rebars' residual strain and stress due to previous loading are also implemented to the model. Although the lateral strength of the specimens are similar to their analytical model, the other behavior, especially their stiffness is not similar, therefore needing another parameter implemented in the model.

A closed-loop scheme of a high-gain serial-parallel-switched-capacitor coupled-inductor (SPSCCI) boost DC-AC inverter is proposed by combining a two-phase generator and sinusoidal pulse-width-modulation (SPWM) controller for low-power step-up DC-AC conversion and regulation. In this inverter, the power part is composed of SPSCCI booster and half-bridge DC-link. This booster is a 4-stage SC circuit plus combining a coupled-inductor, and it raises the voltage gain up to [4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)] at most via two-phase operation, where D is the duty cycle and n is the turn ratio of coupled-inductor. The DC-link is a half-bridge circuit in order to convert the DC voltage into AC via SPWM control for realizing the range of sinusoidal output: +0.5[4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)]VS~ -0.5[4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)]VS. Practically, the maximum output voltage can reach 26.0 times voltage of source VS while D=0.5, n=4. Here, the SPWM is employed to enhance regulation capability for the different output amplitude and frequency, as well as robustness to source/loading variation. Finally, the closed-loop SPSCCI inverter is designed and simulated by SPICE for some cases: steady-state and dynamic responses. All results are illustrated to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.

A closed-loop scheme of a high-gain multiphase switched-capacitor coupled-inductor (MSCCI) converter is proposed by combining a phase generator and pulse-width-modulation-based (PWM-based) gain compensator for step-up DC-DC conversion and regulation. The power part between source VS and output VO contains a three-stage serial-parallel switched-capacitor (SC) circuit plus a coupled-inductor device, and it raises the voltage gain up to 4[(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)] at most, where D means the duty cycle of PWM and n is trun ratio of coupled inductor. Practically, this MSCCI can boost the voltage gain up to 44 when D=0.5, n=4. Further, the PWM technique is adopted not only to enhance the output regulation for the compensation of the dynamic error between the practical and desired outputs, but also to reinforce output robustness against source or loading variation. Finally, the closed-loop MSCCI is designed by SPICE and simulated for some cases: steady-state and dynamic responses. All results are illustrated to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.
