The interactions of adsorbates with graphene have received increasing attention due to its importance in the development of applications involving graphene-based coatings. Here, we present a study of the adsorption of noble gases on pristine and nitrogen-doped graphene. Single-layer graphene samples were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and transferred to transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grids. Several noble gases were allowed to adsorb on the suspended graphene substrate at very low temperatures. Raman spectra show distinct frequency blue shifts in both the 2D and G bands, which are induced by gas adsorption onto high quality single layer graphene (1LG). These shifts, which we associate with compressive biaxial strain in the graphene layers induced by the noble gases, are negligible for nitrogen-doped graphene. Additionally, a thermal depinning transition, which is related to the desorption of a noble gas layer from the graphene surface at low temperatures (ranging from 20 to 35 K), was also observed at different transition temperatures for different noble gases. These transition temperatures were found to be 25 K for argon and 35 K for xenon. Moreover, we were able to obtain values for the compressive biaxial strain in graphene induced by the adsorbed layer of noble gases, using Raman spectroscopy. Ab initio calculations confirmed the correlation between the noble gas-induced strain and the changes in the Raman features observed.

In this paper, we proposed iris segmentation and normalization algorithm based on the zigzag collarette. First of all, iris images are processed by using Canny Edge Detection to detect pupil edge, then finding the center and the radius of the pupil with the Hough Transform Circle. Next, isolate important part in iris based zigzag collarette area. Finally, Daugman Rubber Sheet Model applied to get the fixed dimensions or normalization iris by transforming cartesian into polar format and thresholding technique to remove eyelid and eyelash. This experiment will be conducted with a grayscale eye image data taken from a database of iris-Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation (CASIA). Data iris taken is the data reliable and widely used to study the iris biometrics. The result show that specific threshold level is 0.3 have better accuracy than other, so the present algorithm can be used to segmentation and normalization zigzag collarette with accuracy is 98.88%

One effort to maintain documents or records is to make changes in the form of digital images. The drawings further processing needs to be done so that the text or sentences therein can be operated as do the search, analysis, or manipulation of the contents of the text. The treatment process is known as optical character recognition (OCR) and continues to develop. OCR is generally divided into three main stages, namely preprocessing, feature extraction and classification. Feature extraction is one of the essential or fundamental processes in character recognition. The purpose of feature extraction is to obtain the characteristics of each character. The results at this stage can affect the quality of character recognition. Generally, feature extraction on character is done by a complex calculation so as to cause the necessary time computing is not a little, especially in real time recognition case. In this paper, feature extraction can be done simply proposed as an alternative, called Shape Energy. This method uses the approach of how humans are able to distinguish between characters or numbers in a simple. It results in three elements which are elasticity, curvature, and texture. The elasticity is first derivative and the curvature is second derivative of each pixel in the frame of the character, which is obtained from thinning. While the texture value is 4-direction chain-codes. This method testing has been done on some type of character by using back propagation neural network as a method on classification stage. This testing resulted in average value accuracy rate of success in identifying these characters by 90.3%.

Development of microarray technology makes the number of research about Bioinformatics will increase as well. Microarray dataset contains genetic information and can be used to analyze thousands of samples and features. Especially in cancer research, the cancer data is generated by microarray technology, and will be a primary data for training and testing in the machine learning process. The main difficulties lie in the nature of microarray gene expression data which usually are noisy and high-dimensional. Microarray dataset usually has a large number of attributes or features, but it has a small number of samples. This condition makes the learning process microarray dataset has become harder because of the curse of dimensionality, where the machine will be difficult to handle a number of data with a very high-dimensional. The solution to handle a high-dimensional dataset and improve the accuracy of microarray dataset is using feature selection. The method of feature selection is followed the principle of natural selection, called Evolutionary Algorithms. We proposed to implement some Evolutionary Algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which ACO improved F-measure of 9 datasets and ROC Area of 7 datasets from 11 datasets existing in the cancer research.

Meteorological influences on dengue transmission in Pakistan

Objective: To identify the influences of local and regional climate phenomena on dengue transmission in Lahore District of Pakistan, from 2006 to 2014. Methods: Time-series models were applied to analyze associations between reported cases of dengue and climatic parameters. The coherence trend of regional climate phenomena(IOD and ENSO) was evaluated with wavelet analysis. Results: The minimum temperature 4 months before the dengue outbreak played the most important role in the Lahore District(P=0.03). A NINO 3.4 index 9 months before the outbreaks exhibited a significant negative effect on dengue transmission(P=0.02). The IOD exhibited a synchronized pattern with dengue outbreak from 2010 to 2012. The ENSO effect(NINO 3.4 index) might have played a more important role after 2012. Conclusions: This study provides preliminary results of climate influences on dengue transmission in the Lahore District of Pakistan. An increasing dengue transmission risk accompanied by frequent climate changes should be noted. Integrating the influences of climate variability into disease prevention strategies should be considered by public health authorities.

There are several ways to deal with security issues of confidential data sent via the internet, including using cryptographic techniques and steganography. Steganography is the science and art of concealing information / messages in a media in such a way that its existence is not detected by other parties who are not entitled to the information. Instead, cryptography disguises the meaning of a message, but does not hide that there is a message because the file looks suspicious. The Steganography technique used here was End Of File (EOF). The EOF technique described how to add data or files at the end of the image file. For this technique, the size of data or files that will be hidden could be larger than the size of the image file. The hidden data will be inserted at the end of the file so that it will not affect the image. This steganography application is also equipped with a cryptographic function Data Encryption Standard (DES) at the time of insertion of data that functions as a generator code and encrypts data, so that the security of a data in the file is more protected and protected from those who are not entitled to know the data.

Three Dimensional reconstruction of an object is one of the current research topics. This paper discusses the generation of a model in Three-Dimensional space by taking views of the object from different angles. Image acquisition is done using a single digital camera and turn table. Camera calibration is done using the images of checkerboard pattern. Camera calibration gives the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of a camera. These camera parameters are used to calculate the camera matrix. Camera matrix gives the relation between image reference frame and world reference frame. Each view captured of the object is segmented. The silhouettes are obtained from the segmented images of object. Visual hull is formed by the silhouettes and camera projection matrix information using space carving algorithm. Finally the 3D volume of the object is constructed.

An effect of tsunami to hotel occupancy: A case of Phuket, Thailand

As a popular city for global tourists, more than one third of the Phuket GPP depends on the hotel and restaurant sector. The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami caused a serious physical damage to hotels and a high cancellation of bookings in the post disaster period, which, in turn, led to most THB 3 billion drop of the hotel and restaurant sector income in 2005 in Phuket. In addition, many tourism facilities in Phuket suffered bankruptcy or a slump, because they started their business again immediately after the reconstruction phase, while tourists did not really come back. This paper is an initiative study of our research project to evaluate the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami on Hotel Occupancy, with a focus on the speed for the physical reconstruction and tourism market recovery. We collected the physical reconstruction period and the hotel occupancy recovery data of six hotels that located in the Patong Beach of Phuket from 2003 to 2017. Through calculation, the average of damage rate (i.e., unavailability of the rooms in this study) is 55.89%, with an average speed for the physical reconstruction to rebuild the rooms about 6.07% of the overall rooms per month. The quotient of these two values indicates that the reconstruction period is around 9.2 months. However, the average period for reconstruction and tourism recovery is about 20 months. There is an about 11 months' delay between that hotel and resorts have finished the reconstruction and the tourists start to visit Phuket as usual. Therefore, the local government, local tourist authority, and hotel entrepreneurs can consider these findings in order to prepare the recovery plan for tourism industry in the future tsunami.
