Modification of Porang (Amorphophallus oncophyllus) Flour by Acid and Thermal Process using Conventional Heating in Waterbath and Microwave Irradiation

Modified porang flour by lactic acid and conventional heating using waterbath (PAW) and microwave radiation (PAM) were determined its functional group using FTIR, the chemical structure were studied using H1NMR, molecular weight were measured using HPLC-SEC and its microstructure were studied using SEM, particles size were measured using PSA and rheology characteristics were determined using Rheometer. The results showed that modified porang either PAW and PAM showed changes on functional group peaks compared to one of native porang flour included OH, CH_3, C-C, C = O, C-O-C, mannose and glucose groups. H1NMR spectra of modified porang flour (PAW and PAM) were similar mainly in proton of CH_3 and CH_2, molecular weight were higher at PAW 2.0×10^6 and PAM 3.0×10^6, while particles size of PAW and PAM were smaller. The microstructure of PAW and PAM were porous and spongy indicated that PAW and PAM had higher moisture accessability on the amorph site. Storage modulus (G') dan loss modulus (G＂) PAW and PAM decreasing with the increased temperature. Lower G' compared to G＂ and modulus (G' and G＂) did not showed crossing indicated that PAW and PAM have a stable visco-elasticity. It can be concluded that functional group peaks of modified porang flour (PAW and PAM) changed differently compared to native porang flour, H1-NMR spectra of modified porang flour were similar, with bigger moleculer weight of PAM than PAW, the microstructure were porous and spongy and rheology characteristics indicated that an unchanged visco-elastic system by thermal treatments.

After neonatal HTLV-I infection through breast feeding, approximately 5% of HTLV-I carriers eventually develop Adult T-Cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATLL) with a latency of ~50 years, suggesting that acquired genetic and epigenetic changes in cellular genes act in concert with HTLV-I to initiate and maintain oncogenic transformation. We and others have recently utilized next generation sequencing technology to identify mutated genes that could be pivotal in the pathogenesis of ATLL. However, due to the complexity of genomic/epigenetic alteration in the ATLL genome, the identification of indispensable genes for proliferation and/or survival of ATLL cells remains a formidable challenge. To discover essential regulatory networks that are required for the proliferation and survival of ATLL cells, we performed a pooled shRNA screen in 8 ATLL cell lines using a library enriched for shRNAs targeting lymphoid regulatory factors and discovered that two BATF3 shRNAs and one IRF4 shRNA were highly toxic for all ATLL lines, but had little if any effect in other T cell and B cell lines. It is recently shown that a transcriptional complex of Irf4 and Batf binds to AP1-IRF composite (AICE) DNA motifs and plays key roles in the differentiation and function of certain mouse helper T cell subsets. A close paralogue of Batf, Batf3, is an indispensable transcription factor in a mouse dendritic cell subset, but also appears to play a redundant role with Batf in the differentiation of TH2 cells and can substitute for Batf in Batf knockout T cells. Our observations from shRNA screening suggested that IRF4 and BATF3 may cooperate to drive a transcriptional program that is essential for ATLL viability. We next used genome-wide chromatin precipitation (ChIP-seq) to identify the loci that are bound by BATF3 and IRF4. In theoretical chemistry, the researchers use graph models to express the structure of molecular, and the Zagreb indices and multiplicative Zagreb indices defined on molecular graph G are applied to measure the chemical characteristics of compounds and drugs. In this paper, we present the exact expressions of multiplicative Zagreb indices for certain important chemical structures like nanotube, nanostar and polyomino chain.

Determination of functional prognosis in hospitalized patients following an intensive care admission

AIM To investigate the factors associated with the functional progress of hospitalized patients following an intensive care *** Retrospective study including data from a cohort of 198 hospitalized patients following an intensive care admission and not requiring mechanical ventilation in a single tertiary referral hospital. A generalized linear model was used to identify the main effects of clinical and demographic variables on the outcomes of functionality(KATZ Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living) and muscle strength(MRC Scale). The covariates identified as independent predictors were analysed using the receiver operating characteristic curves. The analysis differentiated the periods in the intensive care unit(ICU), in the Ward(WARD) and the total time of hospital stay(TOT).RESULTS Considering the functional outcome(ΔKATZ), the variables that significantly contributed to the model(P < 0.05) were the KATZ and MRC on admission, age, sepsis(no), and total length of stay(TLS). Regarding the muscle strength outcome model(ΔMRC), the predictors were MRC on admission, Simplified Acute Physiology Score III, previous stroke, TLS, and sex(female). The variable age(AUC = 0.664) discriminated the ΔKATZICU. The variables age(AUC = 0.712), KATZ in ICU(AUC = 0.590) and on ward admission(AUC = 0.746), and MRC on ward admission(AUC = 0.721) were discriminative for ΔKATZWARD. For ΔKATZTOT the variables KATZ on ICU admission(AUC = 0.621) and TLS(AUC = 0.617) were discriminative. For ΔMRCICU the variables SAPSIII(AUC = 0.661) and MRC on ICU admission(AUC = 0.653) were discriminative. MRC on ICU(AUC = 0.681) and ward admission(AUC = 0.553) were discriminative for ΔMRCWARD. TLS(AUC = 0.649) and MRC on ward admission(AUC = 0.696) discriminative for the Δ*** Specific functional, clinical and demographical variables at ICU admission are associated with the functional prognosis during the hospitalization period.

Biodiesel has gained a significant amount of attention over the past decade as an environmentally friendly fuel. However, the biodiesel production process generates glycerol-containing waste streams which have become a disposal issue for biodiesel plants and generated an abundant of crude glycerol, a low-value byproduct of biodiesel manufacturing. Conversion crude glycerol to valuable chemical such as lactic acid, a precursor of polylactic acid (PLA), has a great potential to substitute traditional feedstocks of PLA, i.e., carbohydrate or sugar sources. Some of the process perspectives and the potential of glycerol to produce lactic acid by chemical transformation or microbial conversion are discussed in this paper, as well as the possibility of extending lactic acid to polylactic acid (PLA).

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene would find great applications in industrial graphene-based electronics recently. Most importantly, the one-dimensional constriction of CVD graphene due to its grain boundaries and merged domains revealing interesting interference effects, like Aharonov-Bohm effect. Such interesting interference transport behavior can be revealed by low-temperature scanning gate microscopy (LT-SGM) and be numerical simulated about the dynamic transport point of view by mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation. In order to realize graphene-based quantum transport device, our results suggested that the supplying additional thermal current could flood into the grain boundaries and merged domains in one-dimensional quantum confined CVD graphene so as to suppress the interference effect, a great discovery for graphene-based materials coherent electronic devices. © 2016 IEEE.

In secret image sharing schemes, all legal participants provide legitimate shared images and then they can extract the correct secret message. Recently, Wu et al. proposed a high quality data hiding secret sharing scheme with authentication ability. The major contribution of this scheme maintains good stego image quality while being able to verify secret message integrity. However, to ensure the process can work, the secret image’s pixel values larger than 250 must be changed to 250 for Wu’s scheme. Otherwise, extracting the secret image may fail. In other words, for a secret image, a few errors do not make the big difference but it could be distorted severely for some sensitive secrets. In order to improve this shortcoming, a secret image sharing scheme based on General Multi-Exploiting Modification Direction (GMEMD) data hiding technology will be proposed in this paper. According to simulation results and analysis, we can show that the stego image quality in Wu et al.’s scheme or our proposed scheme is larger than 43dB. We also demonstrate the authentication capability to find unauthorized participants. Furthermore, if all participants are legitimate, then the proposed scheme can extract the secret completely without any distortion. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

We investigate the basin of attraction properties and its boundaries for chimera states in a circulant network of Hénon maps. It is known that coexisting basins of attraction lead to a hysteretic behaviour in the diagrams of the density of states as a function of a varying parameter. Chimera states, for which coherent and incoherent domains occur simultaneously, emerge as a consequence of the coexistence of basin of attractions for each state. Consequently, the distribution of chimera states can remain invariant by a parameter change, as well as it can suffer subtle changes when one of the basins ceases to exist. A similar phenomenon is observed when perturbations are applied in the initial conditions. By means of the uncertainty exponent, we characterise the basin boundaries between the coherent and chimera states, and between the incoherent and chimera states, respectively. This way, we show that the density of chimera states can be not only moderately sensitive but also highly sensitive to initial conditions. This chimera's dilemma is a consequence of the fractal and riddled nature of the basins boundaries. Coupled dynamical systems have been used to describe the behaviour of real complex systems, such as power grids, neuronal networks, economics, and chemical reactions. Furthermore, these systems can exhibit various kinds of interesting nonlinear dynamics, e.g. synchronisation, chaotic oscillations, and chimera states. The chimera state is a spatio-temporal pattern characterised by the coexistence of coherent and incoherent dynamics. It has been observed in a great variety of systems, ranging from theoretical and experimental arrays of oscillators, to in phenomena such as the unihemispheric sleep of cetaceans. We study the chimera state in a circulant network of Hénon maps, seeking to determine how the density of states in the network depends on the system parameters and the initial conditions. The method of contour separation in the image area is described in this paper. The contour separation is useful for the tasks of segmentation-based objects. Obviously, it is a simple and a fast method for the image and video processing. A new method of contour separation which is based on thresholding and filtering is given and explained.
