The assessment of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN) is a very difficult task in PET imaging due to adjacent normal structures. Physicians and computational systems as well, would gain benefit if trained to a large number of SPN cases with controlled topological and morphological characteristics. Our objective was to develop a method for the modeling of the solitary pulmonary nodules in CT and PET images. The modeling of SPN was implemented by Monte Carlo methods taking into consideration morphological characteristics, internal features and Standardized Uptake Value (SUV) activity distribution. For the validation of the model, an observer study from three independent medical experts was performed. The reviewers characterized the lesions as simulated or real and finally they classified them as benign or malignant. According to the results of the human observer study a significant percentage of simulated images could not be differentiated from real ones and the simulated class (benign or malignant) was consistent with the observers' classification.

In this paper, we propose an image-based postal barcode decoding algorithm. The proposed algorithm is capable of correcting missing bars in a symbol. postal barcodes in general belong to bar length modulated symbology. Usually, postal barcodes use a check digit to detect errors. It is possible for some postal code symbologies not only to detect errors, but also to correct them by using the uniqueness of the pattern of a digit. In this paper, we present a general method of correcting errors caused by missing bars. In order to validate our method, a postNET (postal Numeric Encoding Techniques) decoder is implemented. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can correct one missing bar in a digit, and at most ten missing bars in a postNET symbol.

Background: Elderly people suffer from skeletal muscle disorders that undermine their daily activity and quality of life;some of these problems can be listed as but not limited to: sarcopenia, changes in central and peripheral nervous system, blood hypoperfusion, regenerative changes contributing to atrophy, and muscle weakness. Determination, proliferation and differentiation of satellite cells in the regenerative process are regulated by specific transcription factors, known as myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs). In the elderly, the activation of MRFs is inefficient which hampers the regenerative process. Recent studies found that low intensity laser therapy (LILT) has a stimulatory effect in the muscle regeneration process. However, the effects of this therapy when associated with aging are still unknown. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of LILT (λ = 830 nm) on the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle of aged rats. Subjects and methods: The total of 56 male Wistar rats formed two population sets: old and young, with 28 animals in each set. Each of these sets were randomly divided into four groups of young rats (3 months of age) with n = 7 per group and four groups of aged rats (10 months of age) with n = 7 per group. These groups were submitted to cryoinjury + laser irradiation, cryoinjury only, laser irradiation only and the control group (no cryoinjury/no laser irradiation). The laser treatment was performed for 5 consecutive days. The first laser application was done 24 h after the injury (on day 2) and on the seventh day, the TA muscle was dissected and removed under anesthesia. After this the animals were euthanized. Histological analyses with toluidine blue as well as hematoxylin- eosin staining (for counting the blood capillaries) were performed for the lesion areas. As the rapid growth of smart phone technology, people have a lot of digital image information such as digital photos or videos. Both data hiding and data compression are very important technologies in image processing field. On the overview, it seems that there is no relationship between data hiding and data compression because data hiding mechanisms focus on information security and data compression mechanisms emphasize the compression ratio. However, the more secret data is embedded, the more capacity the stego image increases. Actually, they are closely related. Until now, there are many literatures to discuss the secret data how to be embedded into the media image and keeps the original capacity as soon as possible. In this paper, a reversible data hiding scheme based on EMD data hiding and JPEG (Joint Picture Experts Group) compression technology will be proposed. According to experimental results, the authors can prove that our proposed scheme maintains high embedding capacity, security and good compression ratio.
